CH 22

Warning // physical violence

Yan Yi took a breath and used all his strength to stand up. He picked up an iron bat from behind the door and dragged it on the ground as he climbed down the wooden stairs one step at a time.

The first thing he saw downstairs was Gu Wei stepping on a stool with half a broken sharp bottle of wine in his right hand. He pointed the sharp edges towards the door, his breaths short as he cursed severely, “Causing trouble every month, are we not doing business anymore?”

There were still small groups of customers in the shop who were shrinking behind the round tables that were toppled over, trembling as they hid. However, they were carried out one by one to be interrogated by the alphas who wore leather jackets.

They were led by a J1 differentiated locust alpha with a golden-dyed mohawk.

The locust alpha picked up a detection needle and lifted up the hiding customers one by one, scanning everyone’s glands before tossing them aside like they were garbage.

“Go. Search upstairs.” The locust alpha waved his hand and the five J1 differentiated alphas followed up the wooden stairs.

“Hey, you can’t just run up there.” Gu Wei was afraid that it would be dangerous for Yan Yi alone upstairs. He reached out and grabbed the locust alpha’s arm, instantly releasing oppressive pheromones in that moment while letting out his J1 differentiative ability at the same time.

Once the husky alpha’s J1 differentiative ability was released, any object that came into contact with his fingers would turn into several broken pieces in an instant.

The locust alpha’s sleeves made a sound of leather tearing apart. He turned around and gouged Gu Wei out with his eyes, withdrawing his hand in time and then threw a swift and forceful leg out at Gu Wei.

Gu Wei subconsciously warded it off. The gland cells’ awakened biological characteristics of a locust gave the owner the attribute of developed hind legs. No one could avoid their leg-sweep. Gu Wei abruptly hit the wall. He put his hand on the high stool in a hurry, and the high stool instantly turned into pieces.

The locust alpha turned and carefully looked Gu Wei up and down, scorning, “A J1 differentiated puppy dares to bark at us?”

Gu Wei held his lower abdomen; he was after all a civilian. The leg that just swept across was like a steel bar whipping his stomach, the pain felt as though his spleen and lungs were broken into several pieces. He gritted his teeth weakly and glared at him, “What do you guys want to do?”

The locust alpha sneered, “Is there anyone with a high-grade gland upstairs?”

The ones who came to cause trouble were not ordinary hooligans.

Yan Yi was quietly observing on the second floor. He took two steps back and leaned sideways to hide in front of a dressing mirror, pressing onto his violently fluctuating heart and slowing down his breaths.

“Gland hunters…” Yan Yi gripped the iron bat, gently resting it on the side. He undid his cuffs and folded the white cuffs up to his elbows. He then tore two strips of cloth from the white bedsheet, wrapping them separately around his left and right hands as bone-protection wrist covers.

“Uhh.” All the blood in his body was colliding restlessly. Yan Yi clutched his heart in pain and squatted down, kneeling on the ground as sweat poured out like raindrops. His glands were still in a semi-dormant state; it had now only been restored to the J1 level.

But to handle a few bugs, it’s enough.

The locust alpha led the other five alphas to search upstairs. Just as they passed seven or eight steps, a dark shadow suddenly flashed.

Yan Yi didn’t have time to change his bartending uniform. Supporting the wooden rail with his bandaged hand, he leaped forward, the tip of his toe stepped on the wall to leverage his fast dive down as he spun around and did a flying kick. Along with the exploding sawdust of the wooden rails that flew in all directions, several alphas were suddenly forced down to the first floor.

At the same time, oppressive pheromones were released, and a soft milky fragrance spread around. The second Yan Yi landed on the ground, he activated the J1 differentiative ability “high-speed bounce”.

“Omega?” The locust alpha was first stunned, then instantly looked down at the detection needle in his hand. The pheromone differentiation index in the air indicated it was J1.

“Quick! Catch him! A J1 omega! Hurry hurry hurry!” The locust alpha’s face turned red from excitement, staring at Yan Yi like a starving locust eyeing rice, waiting for an opportunity to devour this omega to the bone.

J1 differentiated omegas were more rare than alphas of the same grade. There were very few differentiated omegas itself, so this could influence the gene mutation ability of future omega offsprings at a higher demand. It was glant hunters’ most favourite prey.

At the command of the locust alpha, five pistols were aimed at Yan Yi. Yan Yi knew they wouldn’t dare to shoot him, so he jumped behind the locust alpha in an instant. With one hand, he gripped the alpha’s throat from behind, his legs wrapping tightly around the alpha’s waist.

There was a disparity between the figure of alphas and omegas. Even at the same grade, it was difficult for omegas to subdue alphas.

Yan Yi turned over and sat on the locust alpha’s neck, twisting his body hard, and only the series of resounding bones cracking could be heard. With his neck dislocated, the locust alpha screamed as he fell to the ground.

“Open fire! Destroy him! Don’t harm the glands like you’re selling away money!” The locust alpha howled in hysterics, but Yan Yi stepped on his mouth.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Five bullets fired in succession, aimed at Yan Yi’s leg. As long as the omega was incapacitated, the price wouldn’t be reduced too much if the gland was still intact.

Yan Yi turned downwards and leaped up. The five bullets rubbed against the waistband of his uniform and rapidly crossed underneath him.

Following the direction of the bullets, Yan Yi’s right hand made a circle, then it spread open; five bullets were sandwiched between his fingers.

Before he landed on the ground, he flung his hand out and shot them back.

There was blood in the bar. Five J1 alphas held onto their bleeding calves as they rolled around on the ground.

“Um…Gu Wei…the inhibitor, give me two tubes of inhibitors…” Yan Yi knelt on the floor, his glands were hit by the infinite stench of alpha pheromones. It was so painful that he buried his head in his arms, his fingers scratching against the wooden floor, emitting the tiniest cracking sound.

“Die, die, are you dying or not!” Gu Wei was still carrying a table top and smashing it onto the locust alpha, only coming back to his senses when he heard Yan Yi’s weak cry for help. He fled to get a box of inhibitors and patted Yan Yi’s back, “You can still fight even in your heat?”

He tried his best to release enough soothing pheromones, but their compatibility fit was too low, maybe less than 65%. To Yan Yi, Gu Wei’s soothing pheromones had very little effect on him.

But it was better than nothing.

Yan Yi’s face looked slightly better. With his state of mind in disorder, he felt around for an inhibitor and bit open the plastic seal. As he was about to pierce the needle into his arm, the tension outside the door suddenly became forceful.

Yan Yi froze. His face instantly turned dignified as he stood up and quietly gestured to Gu Wei, “Hide quickly.”

An extremely muscular, tall and burly alpha entered the bar. His bald head was covered in blue tendons, a brand was shaved on the side of his scalp; the three abbreviations of PBB, followed by a series of small serial numbers 000084.

PBB, the abbreviation of Pacific Bio-differentiaion Base.

“Someone from PBB…” Yan Yi moved back two steps and the tip of his nose trembled slightly. Under his composed expression, his heart rate was already surging.

“Hands off! Hands off!” Gu Wei stopped in front of Yan Yi. He could also feel the imposing demeanour of the person who just arrived. Even if this little rabbit was able to fight, being in heat consumed a considerable amount of physical strength. Facing an opponent with such a grade would practically be death.

The person who came was a rhinoceros alpha, with the gland type of M2 giant-horned rhinoceros.

The alpha looked straight ahead and grabbed Gu Wei’s neck, like it was as easy as tossing a bottle of mineral water, then threw Gu Wei hard onto the ground.

“…Ugh…” Gu Wei brutally hit the ground as he choked out a mouthful of blood foam. All the bones in his body hurt so much that he was losing consciousness.

His grade differentiation was an uncrossable strength. A J1 differentiated person would not stand a chance against the M2 glands.

The rhinoceros alpha stepped over Gu Wei like a dead dog and approached the lop-eared rabbit, who had nearly shrunk to the corner of the wall.

The blood in Yan Yi’s body was boiling hot and he couldn’t pay attention to anything at all. When the rhinoceros alpha reached out to grab him, he could only run away.

At the very second that he was about to initiate the high-speed bounce, the air in front of him suddenly gathered to form a wall like solidified jam, knocking Yan Yi back. Then, his ankles were tightened and almost crushed by a large and strong hand.

Giant-horned rhinoceros J1 differentiation ability “Strength gain”.

Giant horned rhinoceros M2 differentiation ability “Impeccable wall”.

The world spun before his eyes. Yan Yi could only curl up into a small ball to protect the baby in his belly as he was thrown outside by his ankles.

Yan Yi released his strength sensitivity as he rolled on the ground several times, trembling to protect the little life in his stomach. His cheek was slightly scratched and blood dripped from his nose.

He wiped away the blood from his nose. Even the last bit of his strength had been drained. He crawled up a few times to prop himself up, and had no alternative but to collapse back on the ground.

The rhinoceros alpha flashed a satisfied smile and walked towards Yan Yi, “A J1 lop-eared rabbit omega. This trip is not in vain, the harvest is fruitful.”

“You’re a member of PBB…” Yan Yi lifted his head with difficulty, “After defecting, you become a gland hunter…?”

The rhinoceros alpha touched the serial number on his shiny scalp: “So you surprisingly know PBB, very knowledgeable.”

“Because I am one too…” Yan Yi breathed heavily as he endured the severe pain spreading in his bones from his heat.

The rhinoceros alpha suddenly halted his steps.

There was a more powerful scent at the end of the bar street.

A tall and straight figure appeared on the street. The rhinoceros alpha squinted. The person who came was a second-grade differentiated alpha. As soon as he drew closer, he released the sole powerful pressure of an M2 alpha.

The opponent was filled with hostility.

——

Yan Yi felt himself being picked up and hooped in a pair of arms. The rich aggressive scent abruptly intruded his nasal cavity. It was the familiar fragrance of daffodils.

An excessive amount of soothing pheromones poured into his glands through his nerve endings. It wasn’t exactly comfortable, but it finally calmed every single cell in his body that was about to burst.

Lu Shangjin held the little rabbit in his arms with one hand while his right hand held a cigarette. Leaning sideways, he let Yan Yi lean against the hollow of his shoulder.

The ashes scattered in the wind. The burning sparks from the cigarette butt fell at his feet and was crushed by Lu Shangjin. A stern chillness spread across his eyes.

The rhinoceros alpha looked at the opponent with raised eyebrows, “This lop-eared rabbit is my prey.”

Yan Yi unconsciously gasped onto Lu Shangjin’s collar, his face was so pale that it made one’s heart ache.

Lu Shangjin opened his right hand and a tactical dagger slipped out from his sleeve. He spun it several times in his palm and held it there. Slightly lifting his eyelids, he looked at the rhinoceros alpha indifferently:

“Do you deserve it?”
