CH 63

Yan Yi felt sleepy after being held for a while. He laid softly on Lu Shangjin’s shoulder, with his little rabbit ears lazily resting on his neck.

The wound split open by Yan Yi’s kick and the pain from the medicine colliding in his blood vessel were cured in an instant.

Lu Shangjin held him up gently. Omegas had thin skeletons and petite figures, and Yan Yi was even thinner, like a light and soft ball held in his arms, emitting the faint sweet scent of milk candy.

He carried him back to the bedroom and changed his pyjamas with one arm, putting him under the covers and tucking him in.

The little rabbit turned over and curled up into a ball on his side in an insecure posture, with his ears covering his cheeks tightly.

The soothing pheromones that were gradually increasing wrapped around Yan Yi’s entire body. He smacked his lips, stretched his body, and his fingertips gently held the corner of Lu Shangjin’s coat.

Lu Shangjin didn’t want to wake him up, so he snuck into the quilt, holding Yan Yi from behind, and gently pressed his lips against his tender glands.

He couldn’t help but tighten his arms and cling to the rabbit in his embrace. The concentration of soothing pheromones around him was sufficient, but Lu Shangjin continued to release more.

It was not only to make Yan Yi feel safe, but also to prove that he was able to compete against everyone else when it came to the amount and concentration of pheromones produced.

A wall lamp was lit in the silent bedroom, and the clock ticked gently and comfortably.

Lu Shangjin encircled him in his arms and looked at him through the warm yellow light. He thumbed away the little rabbit ears, stroking along the pale eyebrows to the drooping eyelashes, and his heart felt a little more at ease.

These days, Lu Shangjin had been going back and forth between the company and home. At most, he had to go home to see him three times a day.

Recently, there had been some problems in the senior management of the company. If only work wasn’t so much to make Lu Shangjin so overstrained, but his heart was worried about the little baby at home, so he was absent-minded in everything he did.

During the morning meeting, Lu Shangjin got angry because of the differences in the management method update, and almost started a fight with several shareholders, which ended badly.

His phone suddenly vibrated as the scene became chaotic. Lu Shangjin immediately stopped to take a glance; it was really Yan Yi calling.

He parted from the ruckus and went to a corner to answer it. Yan Yi asked in a whisper on the phone, “Will you be back at noon?”

He sounded in low spirits. He didn’t know why he was so down.

Vice President Zhao came up to him with a copy of the information: “Mr. Lu, if you insist on changing the current audit mode ……”

Lu Shangjin lowered his head to the receiver and said apologetically, “I’ll be back. I’m busy right now, baobei, I’ll call you in five minutes, be good.”

He put down his phone, grabbed the document and returned to the conference table, propping his hands on the tabletop. His voice was low and clear, “Hold on a moment, give me three minutes to elaborate my reasoning.”

He temporarily placated the stubborn old fox. On the way back from the conference hall, he returned several calls back to Yan Yi, but they had gone unanswered.

When he arrived at the office, Lu Shangjin hurriedly finished the last puff of his cigarette before putting it out in the ashtray. He wanted to give the nanny at home a call and had just pressed on the screen, when the nanny called.

She said Yan Yi had run out.

The nanny auntie cried in a panic. She was an ordinary beta, completely unable to catch up to Yan Yi who disappeared right out the door.

Lu Shangjin felt his vision going dizzy. He sat on the leather chair to slow down for a while, staring blankly at the ashtray on the table for a few seconds.

The last time he lost Yan Yi, he was also in the office, in the same location, the same desktop full of cigarette butts and ashes.

The same unreachable phone calls and panicked anxiety.

Lu Shangjin went downstairs without bothering to take his coat.

His glands had just been injected with a powerful energy agent, so at his current level of recovery, it wasn’t enough to support his use of his M2 tracking ability.

When he returned home, Yan Yi wasn’t there. The surveillance system of the estate was broken, so he could only drive around to find him.

Where could a small child run to? There was no trace of him after searching through the housing estate. Lu Shangjin clenched the steering wheel nervously, the leather sheath imprinted with sweat marks.

He was going crazy as he drove through every inch of land in Chang Hui city.

Lu Shangjin leaned against the headrest, a dozen cigarette butts accumulated in the ashtray. He exhausted the last cigarette in the wrinkled cigarette box, numbly stubbing it out with his fingertips. Closing his eyes tightly and burying his head in the crook of his arm, he laid motionless against the steering wheel.

“Don’t go…”

He really had been doing his best to make up for it. Maybe it wasn’t perfect now, but as long as he was given time, he would make up for all the things he owed to Yan Yi little by little.

Please come back, you no longer have to forgive me.

Lu Shangjin no longer wanted to ask for forgiveness from Yan Yi. As long as he came back, even if his mind was young for all his life, he didn’t have to remember him or love him. As long as he was willing to come home, as long as he could be carefree for the rest of his life.

How difficult is it to love someone who doesn’t love you in return? He just wanted to touch his cheek after wading across mountains and sea of lava.

This was the last straw that broke the camel’s back, and the only hope for Lu Shangjin to survive.

The water dripping from his chin blotted out two to three tear marks on his trousers, his voice changing in tone as he broke down, “Yan Yi…Yan Yi…I was wrong. Aren’t you A3? Wake me up from the beginning…”

When he looked up and blinked, the moment when the car that was blocking his line of sight drove away, Lu Shangjin saw a person lying under the rose vine window in the residential area across the street.

He couldn’t care less about parking his car. Pulling on the brakes, he ran out, anxiously navigating through the turbulent traffic on the road and was nearly hit several times. The frightened owner of the car after hitting the emergency brakes poked his head out of the window and cursed him for being a psycho.

Lu Shangjin stumbled over the fence of the green belt, staggering over the iron fence and carefully picked up Yan Yi who was lying on the ground.

The little rabbit’s glands were still too weak to support consumption and had probably fainted here after running out of energy.

“Baobei, don’t scare me.” Lu Shangjin gathered Yan Yi into his arms and caressed him, releasing a large amount of soothing pheromones to replenish and restore his energy-depleted glands.

In his hand, Yan Yi clutched a rose pulled off from the iron window. The petals were a little loose from the fall.

Completely disregarding his image, Lu Shangjin sat on the ground, his clean and neat trousers stained with dirt and grass as he let Yan Yi rest against the crook of his shoulder.

“Hm.” Yan Yi half opened his eyes sleepily. Seeing Lu Shangjin’s face so close, he froze for a few seconds.

Then he brought the rose to Lu Shangjin, squinting his eyes happily and smiling sweetly.

“I kicked you yesterday. Can I give this to you as an apology?”

In a daze, Lu Shangjin took the rose that had lost a few petals. He opened his mouth and said in a choked voice, “…thank you.”

Yan Yi didn’t know why he was attracted to this kind of flower. In his impression, it was a meaningful flower.

He ate Lu Shangjin’s roses, so by all reason, he should return one to him.

“It’s not your fault.” Lu Shangjin clutched the rose tightly and sniffed it deeply, before inserting it into his shirt pocket.

“Does it still hurt?” Yan Yi broke away his fingers and asked shyly. He put his lips together and blew close to the wound on Lu Shangjin’s shoulder, his little ears tilted up shyly, whispering in embarrassment, “I can touch your ears for you, don’t be sad.”

A faint smile finally revealed on Lu Shangjin’s gloomy face as he gently pinched the little rabbit’s ear.

Yan Yi lowered his head and his cheeks tinged red, his sensitive little rabbit ears curled up, pulling away from Lu Shangjin’s hand shyly.

Lu Shangjin pressed close to his ear and asked, “Can I kiss your ear?”

“…” Yan Yi bit his lips in embarrassment, his blood-filled hot little rabbit ears gently hit Lu Shangjin’s lips, then immediately rolled back as he muttered, “You’ve kissed it.”

“Good boy, let’s go home.” Lu Shangjin exhaled deeply and carried Yan Yi back to the car before fastening the seat belt.

Yan Yi hugged his legs as he sat in the passenger seat, gripping his little ears in regret. How could he casually let an alpha kiss his ears?

Lu Shangjin occasionally inclined his head to look at him, reaching out and touching his head, “What do you want to eat for dinner?”

“Make mixed chrysanthemum with sesame paste for me.”

“Is auntie’s cooking not good enough that you even need me to make such dishes that don’t require technical skills?”

“The one you make…has the smell of narcissus in it.” Yan Yi blinked as he carefully recollected the pleasant flavour.

Lu Shangjin’s eyes fell on the distant traffic lights, his nose turning sour.

The smell of narcissus. Did it really smell good?

After taking Yan Yi home and asking him carefully during dinner time, did he only find out that Yan Yi had broken the ice-crystal-like jade flying eagle ornament in the bedroom, and had called him to admit his mistake.

When Yan Yi finished his shower and returned to the bedroom smelling good, he saw Lu Shangjin sitting under the lamp, holding the flying eagle ornament with broken wings, and concentrating on applying non-marking jade glue to the broken surface.

Yan Yi carefully walked over, climbed on the chair and sat down before leaning over the edge of the table to look at Lu Shangjin.

“It must be expensive…can it still be fixed?”

“This isn’t expensive.” Lu Shangjin’s dexterous fingers filled the broken part with pieces of fine jade bits one by one. He glanced at Yan Yi, his gaze gentle, “Be careful next time, don’t cut your hand.”

The real expensive thing couldn’t be fixed after it was broken. It could only be soothed year after year to make up for it, so that the sharp wounds gradually smoothed out and left less pain.

Next to him, it became quiet for a moment. Lu Shangjin lifted his head. Yan Yi was leaning on the table focusing all his attention on folding paper.

After a while, the little rabbit held up a paper crane to him and quietly placed it in his pocket.

He then crawled onto the bed and laid down, obediently sticking up his little tail.

There was a shock to Lu Shangjin’s heart.

He went over and sat on the edge of the bed, gently petting his head.

Yan Yi relaxed, putting his head on his lap, his soft cheek squeezed out of shape.

It wasn’t until three months later when he took Yan Yi to An Fei Ya hospital for a review. Dr. Zhong brought Lu Shangjin a copy of the examination report and said with relief, “He has recovered beyond my expectations.”

“The glands are steadily maturing and are nearly the size of a sixteen-year-old’s.”
