CH 83

Crushed gravel was still falling from the collapsed exterior wall. Lu Shangjin held the deformed steel bars melted by explosives and looked towards the sky. Blood spread along his arm, dripping from his fingers to his feet.

He could no longer feel the pain, and only a vast white light was in front of him. An invisible wall isolated him from the world, and behind him was the chaotic sound of gunfire and the explosion of equipment overturned. He couldn’t hear anything except the insulated glass in the ward falling down from the side of the bed, waking him up with a thunderous sound.

He sent a message to his assistant while capturing a hint of milk-candy pheromones left in the air and locating the other party’s escape route.

While the PBB members outside the ward were covering the main force’s retreat, Xia Pingtian took Dr. Zhong with one hand and let him lean on his shoulder as he picked up the alarm communicator with the other hand. A furious voice spread through the surveillance speakers in various corners of An Fei Ya Hospital:

Attention security personnel, this is Xia Pingtian. Close all the exits, activate the highest level of protection order, and to all medical staff, please crouch down where you are.

He repeated the order in English. As soon as the order was issued, the external doors of each clinical room in An Fei Ya Hospital were immediately locked, and the fire separation wall rose at a high speed. Dozens of well-equipped security personnel in bulletproof vests rushed out of the elevator from the underground to the first floor, surrounding the PBB soldiers who had yet to escape.

Lu Shangjin handed the remaining scalpel in his hand to Dr. Zhong, whose lips were pale,  dry, and weak, but he was still able to skillfully extract the bullet from his abdomen. Xia Pingtian held the magazine in his mouth to change the ammunition, while releasing soothing pheromones for Dr. Zhong at the same time.

“I’ll compensate for the hospital’s losses when I get back.” Lu Shangjin said.

“It’s nothing to do with you.” Xia Pingtian looked down at Dr. Zhong who was dealing with the gunshot wounds himself. PBB didn’t just come to grab Yan Yi, they were targeting all the high-grade omegas, and Dr. Zhong, with an M2 sinomenine plant glandular type, was also within their target range.

The sinomenine plant’s M2 ability “healing technique” was enough to heal gunshot wounds, but Dr. Zhong’s cold hand pressed on the scrape on Xia Pingtian’s cheek.

The wound healed and Dr. Zhong then put his hand on Lu Shangjin’s right shoulder, injecting a large amount of glandular energy into the wound. Although the residual poison had not been cleared, healing the wound was only a temporary measure, for at least it would prevent excessive blood loss.

Lu Shangjin grabbed his wrist to stop him from expending any more energy. The corners of Dr. Zhong’s lips barely pulled up in a smile, and with a pale face and a faint smile, he told Lu Shangjin with ease, “You have to go save others.” After returning from studying scientific research abroad for so many years, this goal had not changed; it was not only Yan Yi who needed to be saved, but his hope for all high-grade omegas.

Immediately after, Xia Pingtian roared at Dr. Zhong, to the point that he had no time to pay attention to what he was saying. Several doctors helped him into the operating room to stop the bleeding with stitches. Xia Pingtian hatefully smashed the wall before grabbing a gun and joining Lu Shangjin in running through the evacuation exit while sending a text to Xia Jingtian at the same time, asking him to wait in place to pick him up and not run around. But no response was received.

Lu Shangjin passed the news to Bi Ruijing: PBB launched a large-scale operation, putting any high-grade omega in the vicinity in a very dangerous situation.

“What do we do now? “Xia Pingtian pushed on the new magazine, his back on alert as he leaned against the wall and half-squatted on the stairs. Lu Shangjin glanced at the emergency evacuation diagram on the wall and took a panoramic view of the terrain of the various buildings of An Fei Ya Hospital, which covered an area of over 3000 acres.

He could also feel the location of Yan Yi’s weak and faint pheromones. Instead of leaving the Pacific Ocean, he may have flown to a certain PBB base. The nearest base was located in Huaining City. A year ago, most of the base was destroyed due to the tsunami caused by a super high-magnitude earthquake. Highly lethal infectious diseases and large-scale species invasion occurred in succession after that, and they were ordered to block, detonate, and destroy. The ruined city was still rebuilding.

“You keep an eye on the hospital’s glandular freezer.” Lu Shangjin gently moved his right arm. The wound was mostly healed, but he could feel the toxins in the bones still spreading. The helicopter painted with the Peregrine family crest was already approaching the tarmac on the top floor, and Assistant Ning was sitting in the pilot’s seat wearing a headset. Lu Shangjin grabbed the landing gear and flipped into the helicopter, which immediately turned around and left An Fei Ya Hospital.

His phone had been ringing non-stop with texts and calls continuously coming in. Lu Shangjin glanced at it, his head resting on the inner wall blankly, his hair fluttering in the strong wind.

He fished out the crumpled note from his shirt pocket which Yan Yi had written him, saying that he promised to love him at the age of 27. Maybe he didn’t like him as much anymore, but it didn’t matter.

If he could bring Yan Yan and his child back safely, he would follow Yan Yi’s wishes and watch their lives from afar without disturbing them. If Yan Yi wanted to leave, or if he were to meet his beloved alpha, Lu Shangjin could endure it all and would no longer shamelessly bind Yan Yi to his side, just as if it was his punishment for hurting Yan Yi as he did in the past.

His grip loosened, and he threw away the promise written by Yan Yi into the wind before forcefully kissing the wedding ring on his ring finger.

The helicopter traveled over the ruins of Huaining City and air-dropped weapons and ammunition boxes. Lu Shangjin, wearing a pitch-black armed suit, sat on the ammunition boxes and landed slowly. With extreme visual acuity, he saw the entrance to the PBB Huaining base two kilometers away under the cooling tower.

The coded door of the base slowly opened and the identity verification staff stopped Lu Shangjin. Looking up and down at this tall and cold alpha, whose eyebrows and eyes were surprisingly a lot similar to that of the commander, the staff felt a bit embarrassed for a moment.

“Hello sir, if you don’t have identity authentication, please stand here and scan your face and fingers…”

With a gunshot, the staff member collapsed in his seat, a burnt bullet hole falling between his brows.

Lu Shangjin only held one MP433 and stood in place, turning the gun from one angle to the other as he destroyed all the monitors and annihilated all the access control staff.

A wanted notice was displayed on the computer screen with a picture of Lu Shangjin printed on the notice, surrounded by the heads of several PBB agents activated to intercept and eliminate the intruders.

He smashed the display screen with a single shot, fished out the identity card from the corpse, and slowly walked into the main channel of the base.

After the main channel, he needed to pass the gait and heat sensing detectors. Lu Shangjin injected a needle of chameleon serum left by Ye Wan and shielded himself from the detector and monitor for an hour.

He had just entered the main passage when the bulletproof doors at both ends suddenly closed shut.

Lu Shangjin paused in his steps, his eyes covered in a translucent blue transient film unique to the peregrine falcon race as he scanned his surroundings and overhead.

The peregrine falcon alpha’s eyes could see footprints moving overhead through the precision steel protection plate—footprints pausing in one position.

The emergency door above the main passage opened. A blonde-haired blue-eyed alpha fell in front of Lu Shangjin and slowly rose up. His slender and blood-red forked tongue licked his silver lip studs, and his pupils narrowed into a line as he stared at Lu Shangjin. His ten fingers were soft and moving rhythmically.

An albino python alpha, a British PBB agent with serial number 000017 of M2 grade.

The alpha bowed to Lu Shangjin in a gentlemanly manner, ”Your wife is staying inside. He will be sent back to you unharmed when the guided differentiation is complete.”

The two words “guided differentiation” was like a sharp blade, cutting open and sprinkling salt into the wounds that Lu Shangjin had harbored for years. Even if Yan Yi did not say it, he knew that it was a cruel shadow in Yan Yi’s heart that could not be appeased for the rest of his life.

His eyes were so pitch black that the waves couldn’t be seen, and his lips were slightly pursed. In the next instant, his left hand clenched into a fist and hit the lower abdomen of the albino python. Without waiting for the opponent to retaliate, his long legs swept across with a gust of wind, sweeping the albino python seven or eight meters away.

The albino python was also provoked. Wiping a handful of blood from the corner of his lips, he came flying along the wall and wrapping around Lu Shangjin like a hunting python tightly gripping its prey’s neck with its tight and powerful body until the prey suffocated and lost its ability to resist, ultimately becoming the captured trophy he could report for his mission.

Neck bounded, Lu Shangjin stepped on the wall and flipped backwards, smashing the backbone of the albino python entangled around his body onto the ground. He pointed his elbow at his sternum and jabbed it fiercely, severely injuring the snake’s vertebrae. This was a common weakness of snake alphas.

The fight in the main channel awakened the channel clearing system and the cross-shaped strangling laser swept in at speed. Lu Shangjin released the albino python, hooking his hands above the channel and pressing his body along against the ceiling. The laser scraped through the sniper gun on his back, and a piece of the butt was sliced off.

Lu Shangjin took advantage of the sweeping lasers and kicked the albino python alpha to the starting point of the laser. With his arms retracted, he climbed up along the top emergency door where the alpha came down. As soon as the albino python climbed up, he snapped the hydraulic lock.

He swept the dust off his body and crawled inside the main passage along the air vent into the laboratory.

In the main control room, Lu Lin sat in front of the console supporting his cheek as he watched the surveillance footage of the channel covered in burnt and bloody stains. The photo of the albino python alpha turned grey on the agent’s dispatch record on the operation screen by his hand, and “DEAD” was displayed below.

He sat on the control chair and turned around. Not far away in a transparent spherical cage, Yan Yi sat on the ground against the inner wall, the floor thoughtfully lined with soft cushions and thermostats.

The swaddled child was placed in a cradle outside the prison, the pink cradle out of place with this cold and terrifying control laboratory.

Yan Yi also saw the greyed out photo on the spy dispatch record and said faintly, “You should understand your own son.”

“He’s excellent. I am very pleased, but he should listen to me.” Lu Lin washed his hands before leaning over the cradle and gently touching the little bunny’s face. Yan Yi’s heart was affected by Lu Lin’s every movement. Yan Yi’s palms were drenched with cold sweat, not knowing what terrifying action Lu Lin planned to take next.

Fortunately, Lu Lin did not do anything to the baby, but asked for the name of his little grandson.

“Lu Yan, not bad.” He pondered the name quietly, the meaning seemed fine, but he could tell it was a combination of two people’s last names, leaving Lu Lin less than satisfied. He didn’t like the idea of mixing a parent’s last name into a child’s name, and a cloned mass-produced omega’s name wasn’t worthy of having Xiao Jin doing that.

Little Lu Yan in his swaddling clothes burst into tears without warning, loud and piercing in the empty laboratory.

The little baby’s face turned red with tears, first crying with chokes, then coughing as he cried. The little bunny’s ears, covered in a thin layer of fluff, trembled with grief, as if trying to find his dad who had lost him here.

Yan Yi held onto the glass of the spherical prison with both hands, frantically wanting to hold his baby. No father could face such a pitiful precious baby and leave it without care.

Lu Lin lifted the baby up to comfort him, releasing soothing pheromones the scent of tulips, but instead of being comforted, the baby cried more bitterly.

Yan Yi said he was hungry.

Lu Lin raised his eyebrows slightly and brought the child to the side of the cage for Yan Yi to breastfeed him.

Yan Yi calmed his state of mind and forcefully pinched his palm to restrain himself from moving. The baby’s differentiation potential had not yet been measured, and at least for now, Lu Lin had hope for the child and would not do anything out of line.

He refused to breastfeed the baby unless Lu Lin immediately removed all the agents dispatched to stop Lu Shangjin and released him.

Lu Lin sat by the cage and coaxed the crying baby in a gentle voice, saying that his precious little grandson would get sick if he was hungry for a long time. Look, he’s crying so pitifully.

Wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, Lu Lin looked like a kind grandfather as he constantly induced Yan Yi’s heart to soften. Which omega could bear starving their newborn baby?

Yan Yi bit through his lip and licked the taste of blood that kept him awake. He turned around and pretended he couldn’t see.

The kindness on Lu Lin’s face gradually faded, then he allowed several beta guards outside the door to come in.

Yan Yi was forcibly dragged to the lounge. His shirt was torn open and his hands and feet were pressed onto the bed. A beta held little Lu Yan and placed him on Yan Yi’s chest, asking him to suck his fill of today’s lunch.

Yan Yi turned his head in shame and anger, tightly closing his eyes to not look. His limbs struggled frantically, but it was no use. His thin waist trembled. Like an exhibited object, all his privacy and dignity were trampled on in the mud.

He was frightened and his emotions were extremely unstable. His bulging chest obviously couldn’t draw any milk, but Lu Yan was starving and all he knew was to suck hard. Yan Yi felt so much pain that his voice became hoarse, struggling as he shouted to let him do it himself.

Perhaps it was indeed pitiful to watch an omega being bullied in bed that a few beta let go and stood aside to stare at Yan Yi as he fed the baby himself.

Yan Yi grabbed little Lu Yan’s swaddling clothes and tightly held them in his arms. Ignoring the torn and messy shirt, he knelt on the bed and continuously kissed little Lu Yan’s face, choking as he comforted that his alpha daddy would come to rescue the baby.

“I’m sorry baby…it’ll be better if daddy didn’t destroy his glands, it’s my fault, it’s daddy’s fault…” Yan Yi’s hand holding the baby couldn’t stop trembling as he fearfully held the baby and shrank to the corner of the bed, constantly stroking the baby’s back and releasing soothing pheromones.

The more soothing pheromones he released, the more anxious he became. Lu Yan could also feel the omega’s anxiety and wailed even louder with tears dripping down his eyelashes. He cried and coughed uncontrollably and his little face turned red in suffocation.

“Don’t cry baby…” Yan Yi hugged him in desperation as he coaxed, letting the baby keep him in his mouth even if he couldn’t suck anything and it hurt so much. He really didn’t have any other way.

His numb and absent eyes looked towards the glass window on the door. He saw a little alpha come in carrying a small backpack to deliver food to him and also saw him carrying a sniper rifle to lead him through the rain of bullets. Suddenly, Yan Yi couldn’t remember where he was, only feeling that there was someone outside the door he wanted to see.

He rolled over to the ground and landed on his back. The muscle memories left by years of high-intensity training were still there, even without high-grade glands as energy support. Yan Yi’s instincts as a killing machine were yet to be erased.

The watchful beta guard who was observing didn’t expect a weak omega to resist, so his movement slowed down for a moment. In an instant, Yan Yi flipped over his back and locked tightly around his neck, using force to swing his legs and kick over the chins of the two betas who were rushing up.

The beta whose arms were locked had his neck twisted by Yan Yi at the same time.

Yan Yi carried the little newborn on the bed before kicking open the door of the lounge and barging out.

The muzzle of a black gun pressed right between his brows.

Holding the gun, Lu Lin softly tapped Yan Yi’s forehead and said with a gentle smile, “I’ve underestimated you. Sure enough, none of the wives from our Lu family are easy to deal with.”

Yan Yi held the baby in his arms, gritting his teeth and looking straight into the alpha’s eyes. His slightly hoarse voice almost carried blood.

“Are you happy killing one omega after another? What terribly offensive things did Uncle Wan do to make you torture him to death without letting go?”

Yan Yi stared at Lu Lin’s muzzle and stepped forward. The little meatball in his arms seemed to be able to distribute energy, making the person holding him brave.

“We are not anyone’s tools, nor do we want to be your slaves. Sooner or later, this world will no longer belong solely to alphas, and you beasts who attempt to raise them will all die here.

“You rely on high-level dependence to dominate and bully omegas. If you hadn’t marked Uncle Wan, he wouldn’t have been dragged down like this by you. Uncle Wan hated you, Jin-ge hates you too, I hate you too. How can a person live a life of failure like you.”

With a gunshot, the bullet grazed Yan Yi’s collarbone and shattered the glass window in the lounge. A trail of blood flowed downwards, scaring little Lu Yan to cry loudly again until his voice became hoarse.

Lu Lin pressed the hot muzzle of his gun against Yan Yi’s neck and forced the omega against the wall. This bold and daring little rabbit. If Lu Lin wasn’t waiting to see what high-grade offspring Yan Yi as a high-grade would leave with Xiao Jin, based solely on the crime of seducing his son, it would have been enough to destroy Yan Yi and remanufacture him. Moreover, he also bore his own feelings about his relationship with Ye Wan.

His hands were sweating as he clutched the gun, the scorching muzzle almost pierced through Yan Yi’s neck, leaving a red mark on his skin. However, Yan Yi couldn’t feel any pain, but instinctively hugged the baby tightly, so aggressively that even he was shocked.

Going mad, Lu Lin closed Yan Yi into the spherical glass cage, but Yan Yi poured out all his glandular energy to release his pheromones at the last moment, and the sweet scent of milk-candy flowed out along the return air vent of the control room.

This wisp of pheromone smell was captured accurately by Lu Shangjin.

He tilted his head, his cold gaze passing through the monitor in the corner and his hostile gaze almost pierced through the glass.

After carefully identifying it for about ten seconds, he stepped over a severed hand on the ground and walked silently toward the deep passage. The wrist of the severed hand was branded with PBB000014.

His right shoulder was faintly stained with blood, with blood droplets occasionally dripping out and down his fingertips. The path behind him was soaked in blood, dozens of corpses lying upside down and covering the passage.

On the dispatch record of the agent on the console, two more photos greyed out, displaying “DEAD” below. At the same time, the security system sounded the alarms:

“WARNING!THE INVADER IS INVINCIBLE!”
