CH 84

There were over a dozen message boxes on the laptop display screen, but none had received a response. Tan Meng sat in front of the bar and sent the last email requesting help, anxiously grabbing his hair and slumping on the table.

The meeting room was empty and silent, and the omegas who were here every day for tea and chatting were nowhere to be found.

Cang Xiao’er sat on the single sofa, holding his backpack and silently staring at Tan Meng. As he was about to speak, he saw Tan Meng flip over his laptop and vent his anger on the wine bottle at the bar, shattering several bottles of aged red wine.

“How much did Yan Yi help them with? When we need them, they all retreat one by one. When things are crucial, they only care about themselves.” Tan Meng gritted his teeth with hatred and sent countless emails calling for help, hoping to receive assistance from high-grade omegas. Yan Yi was trapped in the PBB branch, and to his knowledge, only Lu Shangjin alone went to save him.

The emails for help were like stones sinking into the sea, and the few that replied were apologetic, saying that they had children and families and didn’t have the courage to go all the way for an omega they hadn’t even met, despite having received help from Yan Yi.

Tan Meng packed up his luggage and hurriedly walked out with Cang Xiao’er. “Let’s go. Lu Shangjin can’t handle it alone.”

Cang Xiao’er drew back his hands, pinning his tail and nestling back into the single sofa as he looked at Tan Meng in embarrassment.

Tan Meng’s footsteps paused and he turned back to look at him blankly. Cang Xiao’er shook his head, appearing really helpless.

How much pain and suffering did he endure in PBB before he had the chance to escape?

Cang Xiao’er knew the number of PBB members very well in his heart, and that a handful of them could not go up against even just one branch of biological weapons and revival forces.

“But you’re the only one who’s A3. None of us are.” Tan Meng grabbed Cang Xiao’er’s hand and peeled off his sleeve, revealing the green and blue serial number PBB000005 on it, and looked up at him with wide eyes.

Cang Xiao’er silently pushed his hand aside, lowering his eyelids, and asked softly, “I’m not familiar with him. Do you know him well?”

This had nothing to do with familiarity. Tan Meng pursed his lips. It was Yan Yi who was taken away today. Tomorrow, more people would be caught. If high-grade omegas could only be like scattered sand as they are now, they would always only be worthy of being prey for alphas to hunt for enjoyment.

He picked up his backpack and left. As he walked to the door, he suddenly stopped at the door and told Cang Xiao’er that it was safe here. If he didn’t want to be surrounded, he should hide properly inside.

Cang Xiao’er hesitated to say something, but Tan Meng pushed open the door and walked out without even looking back.

As soon as he took out the car key, he saw Bi Ruijing leaning against the door of his car.

Tan Meng still remembered the revenge that the mistress came to provoke him not long ago, and didn’t give him a good expression, “Are you trying to persuade me to go home and take care of the baby?”

Bi Ruijing crushed the cigarette butt that was still burning under his feet and said, “I raised you with good food and good drinks but this is how you treat me.” The little white-eyed wolf was turning his back on an old friendship and giving him the cold shoulder before he had even grown old.

“Did I beg you to raise me?” This old thing always thought he couldn’t live without him. Tan Meng swung his hand and left, but he was then wrapped up by the vines from Bi Ruijing’s fingertips and held in his arms before he could escape. Tan Meng grabbed the vines and struggled outwards. He heard the alpha whispering in his ear that the baby had already been sent to grandma’s house to be taken care of.

Tan Meng became quiet. Bi Ruijing lifted his chin towards the direction where the helicopter was parked nearby.

–

The security system of PBB’s Huaining branch had been mostly destroyed and the alarms throughout the base were constantly buzzing. The wanted notices were constantly updated with photos of Lu Shangjin hiding in various corners, but no news of the target being dead had been released.

Yan Yi held the baby sitting in the glass cage, silently watching as the list of agents dispatched to intercept were marked DEAD one by one, leaving only the last one yet to be determined dead.

He obviously couldn’t see Lu Shangjin, but the anxiety in his heart was soothed as if he could sense his alpha approaching.

Inexplicably, he believed that Lu Shangjin would come, just as in the past, accustomed to waiting for one hand to bring him out of the abyss. Yan Yi was a bit unsure. If the previous infatuation he felt could only be classified as high-level dependence, then what did it mean to think about it like crazy now?

Little Lu Yan became quiet from the omega’s soothing and obediently nestled in his father’s arms.

Yan Yi touched the old wedding ring that had been wiped shiny from his pocket and held it in his hand. He gripped it so tightly that the whole ring became sweaty, and put it on while holding his breath, like a slow and grand ceremony, and like a goodbye to his past resentment.

His tightly furrowed brow finally relaxed and he gently kissed the baby bunny’s cheek. This innocent child, who had not yet been properly pampered since he came into this world, had to endure the current reckless disaster. But he believed that Lu Yan was a little bunny deeply loved by two fathers, born with the love Yan Yi envied most ever since he came from hundreds or thousands of clones.

A stream of blood seeped out of the corner air shutter a hundred meters away. Lu Shangjin sat in the air vent, slightly leaning his head against the vertical wall to close his eyes and catch his breath.

He smelled the scent of baby’s breath pheromones passing by him, but after carefully identifying it, the pheromone had disappeared. Perhaps it was just an illusion and Lu Shangjin had no spare energy to track it.

Blood flowed down the sleeves of his clothes, staining his right hand crimson. His forearm rested lightly on his knee as he listened to the buzzing of the alarm outside and his name constantly appearing on the wanted notice broadcast. His chest heaved up and down as he breathed harder and harder, using the few minutes of temporary rest to recover what little strength he had left.

He wondered if his babies were doing okay. They were probably very scared or waiting for him.

The wedding ring on the ring finger of his left hand was stained with blood, but the dried blood residue couldn’t rub off on his clothes. Lu Shangjin took off the ring, puffed and wiped it clean with his thumb. He curled his lips unnoticeably and put it back on his hand fondly.

Not far away came the intercom sound of the patrol team. Lu Shangjin held his shoulder, climbed out of the air vent, and tumbled into the laboratory stairwell.

The lab was only equipped with one-way hydraulic doors that could be pushed inward, but could not be opened in the opposite direction. The patrol team behind them was scanning the intruder’s tracks in a sweeping manner, leaving Lu Shangjin with no choice but to enter by pushing open the door.

There were no lights in the lab, and after the hydraulic door lock was closed, the surroundings became pitch black.

Lu Shangjin held his flashlight in his mouth to find the exit when he suddenly heard a rustling sound of claws scraping against the ground.

He turned off his flashlight and scanned the eerily dark surroundings with just his eyes. Because of overuse, a faint blue film had formed in his right eye, which weakened his night vision ability but he could still barely make out some contours.

Dozens of semi-mechanical dogs transplanted with human glands slowly gathered around, hovering at the edge with low growls.

Lu Shangjin narrowed his eyes and pulled out a modified shotgun from the two guns behind him and loaded it. He hooked his fingers on the top edge of the instrument cabinet to haul himself up high, holding the gun with one hand and pulling the trigger. The shotgun exploded and shattered the bulletproof culture cover of the gland behind the neck of the semi-mechanical dog.

“After so many years of research, what kind of crap did you make?” He cast a mocking look into the monitor installed in the eyes of the semi-mechanical dog.

The modified shotgun could fire eight consecutive rounds without needing to be reloaded. Lu Shangjin didn’t need to aim, he pulled the trigger with his right hand facing back. As long as he activated the differentiation ability for tracking location, he could fire without fail.

The powerful recoil shocked open his wound. Lu Shangjin clenched his teeth to endure the severe pain and was no longer willing to fight. Taking advantage of the height of the instrument cabinet, he jumped out from the ring and smashed the diffuser with one shot before hooking over the steel ceiling and flipping out.

The gun fell to the ground and a cold light split right in front of him. Lu Shangjin dodged to the side. The other party was wearing a pitch-black masked agent uniform with a dark green skeleton embroidered on the back and a refined steel brass knuckle on their right hand, squinting at Lu Shangjin with hostility.

Australian Dragonfly alpha, one of the very few insect-like glandular PBB agents, serial number 000008, grade M2.

The microchip stripped from Lu Lin’s reliable henchman contained a partial list of PBB agents. The Australian Dragonfly alpha had an extremely fast attack speed, so the firing rate of most guns could not hit this agent number eight.

Lu Shangjin looked coldly into the other person’s eyes and put away the modified shotgun before pulling out two curved knives from the dagger belt on both sides of his thighs. He turned and held them in the palms of both hands, blood dripping from his right hand onto the blade, then from the sharp tip of the knife to his feet.

He could already feel Yan Yi’s pheromones in the vicinity. The smell was light and fading away.

Wait for me.

The alarm in the main control room boomed again and again, repeating that the invader could not be defeated. More than thirty surveillance screens all became snowflakes, and the only side of the screen that was still barely functioning was fixed on Lu Shangjin’s cold, disdainful pair of predatory hawk eyes.

The photo of the last agent in the dispatch record was still displayed. Lu Lin leaned back quietly in the control chair, tapping his fingertips lightly on the armrest. From the distance, he admired a rebellious work of art, like a nobleman who had placed a bet in the field eagerly anticipating for his tamed beast to tear him to pieces and devour him.

Suddenly, a piercing alarm sounded outside the control room and Lu Lin’s face slightly changed. He picked up the gun on the control console and pressed against the wall to feel his way out. He then followed the alarm with a team to check out the situation. Except for Xiao Jin, no one else should be able to break in.

Five minutes after the hydraulic door lock was closed, it slowly opened a slit.

Yan Yi held the baby a little tighter as he retreated to the glass inner wall in the other direction, staring in alert at the separated gap.

Gu Wei squeezed in through the gap, patting the dirt before sitting in front of the console and skillfully opening the command to enter a string of permission codes before scanning his own fingerprints.

Boss Gu? Yan Yi’s eyes widened. He placed his hand on the glass and eagerly slapped it, ‘Boss, let me out.’.

Gu Wei first terminated the agent dispatch order, then turned off all monitors and displays showing the news that Lu Shangjin had been killed on the wanted notice. Finally, he connected to the control system of the Pacific headquarters and sent a signal to the Huaining branch prohibiting the issuance of new orders.

He glanced back at Yan Yi. The remote control of the glass cage was in Lu Lin’s hands and forcibly opening it would inevitably alert the owner of the remote control, rendering the little lion’s strategy uselessn.

Understanding Gu Wei’s intention, Yan Yi frowned and asked if Xiao Xia was outside, wanting them to stay away from this place.

Gu Wei leaned back in the control chair and turned to face him, his hands resting on the armrests. His handsome and indifferent face suddenly became so serious that it made one extremely unaccustomed to it.

He wasn’t here to save anyone, but to take this opportunity to seize back what was rightfully his family’s. The little lion was willing to follow and he did not mind either. It would be too unpleasant to say that Gu Wei was using him, but there was no other way except to rely on the abilities of Lu Shangjin and Xia Jingtian. These two people were already the strongest alphas he could find.

“I can only help you up to this point. I have something else to do, so I’ll leave first.”  Approaching the door, Gu Wei looked at Yan Yi through the glass and said, “There’s something I’ve been wanting to say. Destroying your own glands is really the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. I don’t want to feel sorry for you at all, you’re only going to owe more and more.”

Do you feel good about living under someone else’s wing?

Stop talking. Yan Yi forcefully smashed the glass and gritted his teeth, glaring at him, wanting to refute but having nothing to say. He had already regretted it and didn’t need others to stab him in the heart with a knife again.

Gu Wei felt his way to the door and was about to leave, but after taking a step, he suddenly stopped in his tracks. He inexplicably smelled a fishy smell so he slowly backed away. There seemed to be a huge object blocking his way, but he couldn’t see where it was.

Yan Yi looked at him cautiously, holding the sleeping baby as he subconsciously retreated as far away as possible. He leaned back against the glass wall and lifted his rabbit ears to cover the baby’s eyes. His heart pounded faintly and even his breathing slowed down.

After a moment of hesitation, the hydraulic door of the control room slowly opened. Lu Lin barged in along with a team of security, pointing his gun at Gu Wei and pulling the trigger without hesitation.

Gu Wei dodged the bullet that grazed his shoulder, rolling to the console desk as the chaotic strafing of bullets punctured deep holes in the steel protective plate one after another. At the same time, a huge monster suddenly appeared before them.

A six meter long giant Komodo lizard had been stealthily lurking in the corner. It suddenly roared and the entire control room shook.

Its sturdy and powerful tail swept through the room, suddenly smashing the glass prison where Yan Yi was confined. The giant lizard was viciously angered by the chaotic gunfire, even biting and killing the security team behind Lu Lin, regardless of whether they were enemies or not, and the strong smell of blood instantly permeated the entire control room.

Yan Yi crouched down with the baby in his arms and curled into a ball, staring blankly at the giant lizard. The lizard was wearing a gland cultivation cover on the back of its neck. If its stealth ability came from the human glands inside the cover, Yan Yi could only think of Ye Wan’s chameleon A3.

In particular, Lu Lin’s infatuated gaze at the lizard made Yan Yi panic. He carried the baby out of the glass prison, his legs slightly soft and trembling as he sat on the ground and moved back in fear.

“What are you afraid of?” Lu Lin’s pride was suddenly slighted by Yan Yi’s fearful eyes. He took out a syringe and walked towards Yan Yi, pressing him to the ground, then bit open the seal of the syringe and injected a stream of guided differentiation alpha serum into Yan Yi’s glands.

Yan Yi was in so much pain that he was convulsing all over, completely unable to divert the energy to struggle. The only thing he could do was to hold onto half of his body and tightly protect the baby under him.

The weight pressed on his body was suddenly lifted all at once as a strong fragrant narcissus pheromone wrapped around his whole body in an instant.

Yan Yi trembled as he opened his eyes and saw the sharp and cold jaw of the alpha. His eyes were incredibly gentle when he lowered his eyelids to look at Yan Yi.

Lu Shangjin scooped him into his arms, covered in dozens of bloody cuts, but it was as if he couldn’t feel pain as he kissed between Yan Yi’s brows and protected him in the corner.

The giant lizard bit onto his shoulder blade, madly tearing off Lu Shangjin’s flesh.

Yan Yi looked at him stiffly, and for the first time, his alpha showed an unbearable expression of pain. His swollen neck was crawling with blue veins, and his beautiful eyebrows, eyes, and facial features were twisted together in a ferocious manner, gripping people’s hearts to join him in agony, so much pain that it caused the heart to break into pieces.

Lu Shangjin suddenly saw the wedding ring’s reappearance on the omega’s ring finger, and his dim eyes instantly gave off a few glimmers of light.

Blood streamed like flowing water from the alpha’s shoulder blades to the ground. He pressed his two precious babies in front of him into his arms, arched his back in pain, and two hard protrusions slowly emerged from his back shoulder blades. The giant lizard chomped on the protrusion on the right side, and Lu Shangjin let out a low groan of pain as he tried hard to struggle free.

A soft snowflake fell on Yan Yi’s stunned face. Stunned, he picked it up and found that it was a feather.

Lu Shangjin’s glandular cells proliferated into his bones and flesh at a tremendous speed, and his brown and black-spotted falcon wings extended out from the bones of his spine, unfolding in a split second. The control room was then overturned by a strong gust of wind, overturning the tables, chairs, and debris on the ground.

On Lu Shangjin’s right eyeball, there was a line of blue-green serial number: PBB00001.

Lu Lin froze for more than ten seconds and suddenly raised his hand for the security team behind him to lower their guns.

“You differentiated…” Yan Yi grabbed onto Lu Shangjin’s collar in surprise and was suddenly lifted up by his waist in one fell swoop before being carried out of the control room like a sweeping wind.

The dragonfly alpha, who had previously intercepted Lu Shangjin, clutched its severely injured thigh and suddenly sprang out to block the center of the passage. It launched its differentiation ability in an attempt to intercept them and escape. Suddenly, it realized that its glands were out of control, and half of its differentiation ability was like a sodium block falling into the water, boiling and disappearing in an instant.

The peregrine falcon’s A3 differentiative ability “Enhanced Transient Film” rendered any differentiative ability below their own grade instantly ineffective, while weakening the differentiative ability of opponents of the same grade by 70%.

Calmed by his alpha father’s pheromones, Lu Yan became quiet and obedient, willing to stretch out his wrinkled face after feeling a sense of security. Yan Yi held the baby in his arms and grabbed Lu Shangjin’s neck, looking at the blood that looked as if it had rained down on his body. He buried his head in the crook of Lu Shangjin’s neck and whimpered several times, asking if it hurt.

The blood in Lu Shangjin’s face was fading, and his stiff white lips faintly smiled in relief as he kissed Yan Yi’s neck.

“You must be terribly scared. I’m sorry.”

As Lu Shangjin swept through the passage, the edge of his wing marked a bloody line on the dragonfly alpha’s throat, whose brass knuckle scraped Yan Yi’s ring finger and ripped the wedding ring off, hitting the ground in a series of clinks.

“Hold on!” When Yan Yi wanted to break away from the alpha’s arms to pick it up, Lu Shangjin gently wiped away the tear stains on his face and softly comforted, “When the baby is a month old, I will accompany you to pick a new pair. Choose one that you like.”

The coded door outside the base was suddenly slammed open, and the falcon with a wingspan of six to seven meters flew towards the helicopter waiting in the sky.

The setting sun approached over sea level, the boiling red wheel hanging in the burning edge of the sky.

The right half of the alpha’s wing was bitten off, and the bloody flesh and white bones of the fracture was horrifying. Each flap of his wing caused unbearable pain to his glands.

Lu Shangjin lifted Yan Yi onto the helicopter and grasped the outer edge with both hands. Exhausted, he lightly rubbed Yan Yi’s cheek with the tip of his nose. The falcon, returning home under the sunset, was tenderly watching his eggs in the nest.

The security team members of PBB were densely packed like termites emerging from their nests, and the flying bullets hit the helicopter with chilling and terrifying explosive sounds.

Lu Shangjin spread his wings behind him and protected the helicopter that had escaped as quickly as possible, gently cupping Yan Yi’s cheeks and murmuring.

A magnum bullet sliced across the back of Lu Shangjin’s neck, and a large stream of sweet, hot blood gushed down onto his chest as the light scent of narcissus was released uncontrollably.

The blood in Yan Yi’s body seemed to suddenly freeze and stop flowing, and the little Lu Yan in his arms burst out with a sharp cry.

The alpha’s wings were withering, flesh and blood gradually disappearing from the skeleton with his gland cells dying out, and the flying feathers fell into the sea.

Lu Shangjin vigorously flapped his half boned, half feathered wings hard as he pushed the outer wall of a helicopter to send Yan Yi away from the sniper’s range.

“Don’t eat too much cold food. Don’t wait until the hot congee turns cold to eat.

“Baby’s bedding is still drying on the balcony. Remember to keep it. The bedsheet you picked with the yellow bunny print is already laid out on the small bed. Don’t be impatient and angry with yourself just because you can’t find it after searching all around for it.

“I’ve always wanted to take you for a walk by the seaside. I wanted to tell you every day, but I was always afraid that my plans wouldn’t be good enough, that the water may be too cold, and you might feel bored. It’s like nothing I plan is good enough, and I have been procrastinating until now.

“But there’s a sunset today and we’re also by the sea. It’s not too bad either. Do you like it?”

The lone falcon fell, reluctantly closing his eyes as he was swallowed by the roaring sea water.

Yan Yi went berserk as he laid on the edge of the helicopter shouting the alpha’s name. He tied the baby to a folding board and single-handedly lifted the Gatlin gun, which was screwed to the helicopter, and leaped off the edge with force.

The J1 differentiative ability of lop-eared rabbit “high-speed bounce.”

After a brief moment of silence, a tall figure suddenly appeared on the shore.

The scent of the exploding narcissus diffused throughout the sky, blending with the rolling waves. He couldn’t find his alpha at all.

Each handful of seawater cupped in his hands was like his Jin-ge, but each one was not. He could only grasp onto the scent, kissing his fingertips like he couldn’t bear to part with it.

Yan Yi dragged the Gatlin gun with his right hand, slowly walking forward to face the thousands of security forces rushing out of the base.

His soaked shirt clung tightly against him, revealing the blue serial number PBB000002 on his chest. His light grey eyes burned with a bottomless abyss as the heavy muzzle dragged a deep groove on the rocky beach. The figure disappeared several times and reappeared several dozen meters away.

The differentiative ability of A3 lop-eared rabbit “teleport.”
