Chapter 162

162 Side with His Wife

The two of them were still chatting in the dining room when they noticed that someone had walked in.

Zhang Li Xue looked up and her eyes lit up upon realizing who it was. She stood up quickly and greeted, “Uncle. You’re back.”

Bai Qi followed her gaze to look at the middle-aged man in front of them. It did not take him a long time to figure out that this man should be Zhang Yu Ying’s husband.

“Mmm...” Wei Jun Hao looked at his niece before shifting his gaze to the young man beside her. For a while, he did not know what he should feel about Bai Qi.

Wei Jun Hao can be said as someone who watched Zhang Li Xue grow up.

He was aware that his best friend, Zhang Yu Han would drive away young man from approaching his daughter. However, his wife, Zhang Yu Ying seemed to like this young man a lot.

At this time, Wei Jun Hao was weighing the decision of whether he should warn his friend about this young man who was getting closer to this little cabbage.

It did not take him too long to make up his mind. Wei Jun Hao quickly decided to side with his wife. After all, he did not want to spend his nights in his study.

It’s better to pretend that he knows nothing than to do something that would upset his wife.

.....

“Li Xue, is this your friend?” Wei Jun Hao spoke. His eyes were still on that young man, giving him a silent assessment.

???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????-????????????.????????????

“Uh-huh.” Zhang Li Xue glanced at Bai Qi and introduced him. “Uncle, this is Bai Qi. He’s a friend from kindergarten. Now, he’s working at the hospital with Uncle Qi Zheng.”

“Mmm...” Wei Jun Hao nodded. “Your aunt had mentioned him before.” He flashed an amiable smile at Bai Qi and stretched his hand for a handshake. “Hello. I’m Li Xue’s uncle. Wei Jun Hao.”

As the two men exchanged a brief greeting, Zhang Yu Ying finally came out of the kitchen. She saw her husband and walked over to him. “You’re back. Are you done with work?”

Wei Jun Hao heaved a sigh. “For now.” As a lawyer, his work was never done.

“Then, quickly go and wash your hands.” Zhang Yu Ying patted his arm. “Dinner will be served soon.”

Just then, the auntie walked out, carrying several dishes to the dining table. It was Bai Qi’s first time visiting the house and Zhang Yu Ying had instructed them to prepare a few more dishes.

Zhang Li Xue walked up and offered to help. As she had frequently visited this house, Zhang Li Xue was not shy to move around and make this place as if it was her own place.

Dinner started soon and Zhang Yu Ying and Wei Jun Hao both took their chances to ask Bai Qi about himself and what had happened after their family moved to S Country.

Zhang Yu Ying heard that Bai Qi had a little sister and made him promise to bring her over when he got time later.

Bai Qi ate his meal cautiously.

The food was delicious, but he could not help but felt that this dinner was awkward.

This felt like meeting his little fairy’s parents.

As the thought crossed his mind, Bai Qi lowered his head, feeling rather embarrassed for having such thoughts.

Unfortunately, Bai Qi was still unaware that meeting Wei’s couple was far easier than meeting Zhang Li Xue’s parents.

When the time comes, Bai Qi might not even get the chance to taste the food properly.

After dinner ended, Bai Qi spent more time chatting with the Wei couple.

Zhang Yu Ying was always curious to know about what happened to the Bai family while they were in S Country. As Bai Qi continued to talk, Zhang Yu Ying hinted at her husband to help to look into the matter.

Seeing that it was late, Bai Qi became worried about his little sister and quickly excused himself to leave.

“You’re leaving?” Zhang Li Xue was in the middle of eating some fruits when she heard his words. She quickly grabbed her purse and smiled. “Then, let me send you back.”

Bai Qi was about to decline when he heard Zhang Yu Ying speak.

“That’s right, let Li Xue send you back,” Zhang Yu Ying said. “It’s not easy to get a cab around this place.”

“Then, Younger Aunt, I’ll head back first,” Zhang Li Xue said. She walked over to her aunt and gave her a tight hug. “Thank you for dinner.”

Zhang Yu Ying laughed. “Alright. Just remember to come over and play when you have time.”

After exchanging a few words with the Wei couple, Zhang Li Xue and Bai Qi finally left.

Bai Qi looked out the window to enjoy the night scenery of the city while Zhang Li Xue was driving and humming to a song on the radio.

Thinking of the dinner and the Wei couple’s care made his heart grow warmer.

He had never thought that there would be another person who would remember his family.

After what had happened to his father, a lot of relatives gradually distanced themselves. No matter how he had begged, no one was willing to help.

But today, he learned that there were still people who would extend their hand to help him.

Bai Qi thought that the wisest decision he made was to return to Y City.

“Are you in a better mood now?”

The voice snapped him out of his trance. Bai Qi turned to Zhang Li Xue and finally remembered how she had given him a piece of candy to cheer him up.

“Hmm... I still have to thank you for your advice,” Bai Qi said. “I talked to my mentor and finally resolved that problem.”

Zhang Li Xue glanced at Bai Qi and flashed him a bright smile. “That’s good.”

The smile on her face was too dazzling that Bai Qi was having a hard time taking his eyes away from her. He could tell that she was very happy for him as well.

The light in his eyes flickered. After a brief hesitation, Bai Qi spoke again, “Will you be free this weekend?”

Zhang Li Xue thought of her schedule and answered, “I should be. What’s up?”

“I was thinking of inviting you for a meal. Just to thank you for your help.”

Her laughter echoed in the vehicle. “I didn’t do anything much.” She glanced at Bai Qi again and saw the smile on his face. “But, I guess I won’t say no to a free meal.”

Bai Qi lowered his head to hide his smile. There was indescribable happiness when she had agreed.

“Will Xi Xi come along as well?”

“No,” Bai Qi said. “It will be just us.”
