254 Engagement Party

When Zhang Li Xue walked into the dining room the next morning, she could already see that her brother was accompanying her mother for breakfast.

Zhang Li Xue recalled Bai Qi’s request last night and wondered if she should agree with his idea. She was a little afraid that her brother would react strongly against Bai Qi. At the same time, she did not want Bai QI to feel as if she was embarrassed to introduce him to her brother.

“Sister, what are you standing there for? Aren’t you going to eat your breakfast?”

Zhang Yi Hai’s voice snapped her out of her trance.

With a smile on her face, Zhang Li Xue walked over to the table and greeted them both. Then, she looked at the dishes prepared on the table.

Zhang Li Xue raised her head and asked, “Mommy, where’s my dad?”

“He’s still having a video conference with your grandfather,” Li Qin Yao said. “You should eat first. I will wait for your father.”

“Oh.” Zhang Li Xue picked up her cutlery and began to eat her breakfast. As she spooned the porridge into her mouth, Zhang Li Xue would glance at her brother, hesitating.

Her strange action did not leave Zhang Yi Hai’s eyes. After checking that his sister was indeed looking at him, Zhang Yi Hai turned to her and frowned. “Sister, what’s wrong? Why do you continue to look at me like that?”

“Nothing.” Zhang Li Xue coughed. “I was just wondering when are you going out. Do you need a ride? I can send you over before heading to the office.”

Li Qin Yao was quick to notice her daughter’s abnormalities. However, she decided not to say a word about it.

“It’s fine,” Zhang Yi Hai said. “I can drive myself. It would be convenient that way.”

Zhang Li Xue nodded before he lowered her head and continued to eat.

Her mind was still at Bai Qi’s suggestion, but Zhang Li Xue did not know if she would have the courage to speak to her brother about her boyfriend.

Without realizing it, the porridge in her bowl was already gone.

Zhang Li Xue drank a glass of milk before she stood up. After exchanging a few words with her mother, Zhang Li Xue turned around to leave. However, her steps halted just as she was about to leave the dining area.

She hesitated briefly and finally turned around again. “Yi Hai?”

“Hmm?” the boy raised a brow inquiringly.

“Do you have time this evening? Why don’t we go and play basketball? It has been a while since we have had a match.”

Zhang Yi Hai did not think too much about it and decided to agree. “Alright. I guess I don’t have any plans for the evening.”

Zhang Li Xue heaved in relief when she heard her brother’s answer. “Then, I’ll text you the place later. Let’s head over after I clock off from work.”

In the evening, Zhang Yi Hai put on his best suit and drove one of the cars to the hotel where the event took place.

When he arrived, a few of his schoolmates were already there.

Zhang Yi Hai walked over to his friends and started to catch up with them.

Their friend, Qian Ji sudden engagement party surprised everyone. They could not help but wonder just why would Qian Ji decided to engage at this time.

A few of his friends guessed that Qian Ji’s girlfriend might be pregnant. However, until Qian Ji came out and explain, no one will seem to know the truth.

As he continued to chat with his friends, Zhang Yi Hai noticed a familiar silhouette not too far from where he stood. Seeing that Fang Su Jin had shown up at this event as well surprised him.

But then, he seemed to remember that the Fang family was quite close to Qian Ji’s girlfriend. Therefore, it was not strange to see her here.

From the looks of it, it doesn’t seem as if Fang Su Jin noticed his presence.

Zhang Yi Hai lowered his head as he recalled the misunderstanding that happened in Capital City not too long ago.

After a brief hesitation, Zhang Yi Hai excused himself from his group of friends and walked over to Fang Su Jin. He wanted to apologize again for the misunderstanding and found out if her parents knew about it.

However, before he could reach her side, Zhang Yi Hai saw a man walk over to Fang Su Jin. The two of them exchanged brief words before Fang Su Jin linked her arm around that man’s arm.

Zhang Yi Hai frowned, wondering who was the person beside Fang Su Jin.

He did not remember if his sister had mentioned anything about Fang Su Jin dating someone...

The loud cheer snapped him out of his trance.

Zhang Yi Hai turned around and saw that Qian Ji and his girlfriend had appeared to greet the guests.

He watched the couple from afar as the engagement ceremony took place.

Once the ceremony ended, Qian Jin walked around the hall to meet their guests.

Qian Jin finally saw him standing alone in the corner and walked over.

“Congratulations,” Zhang Yi Hai patted his friend on the shoulder.

“Hey, Yi Hai, thanks for coming despite the short notice.”

Zhang Yi Hai smiled. “Hmm... We were all shocked to hear about your engagement ceremony. I thought that you were trying to trick us.”

Qian Jin turned to look at his fiance who was busy entertaining a few of her friends at a distance away. A faint smile curled on his lips. “I know what people are talking about.” He looked at Zhang Yi Hai again before continuing, “Everyone thought that we got engaged because she’s pregnant. But that’s not the case. Xue Yan’s mother is sick. Her greatest wish is to see us getting married. But at this time, we could only promise to get engaged first.”

Zhang Yi Hai listened to his friend’s story for a while.

Seeing that a few people were looking for Qian Ji, the man had no other choice but to turn around. After a few steps, his movement paused and Qian Ji turned to look at his friend again. “That’s right. I have something to ask you.”

“What is it?”

“I heard that there’s a rumor that your sister is dating,” Qian Ji spoke. “Is that true?”

“What? My sister?”

Qian Ji nodded. “A few of our classmates saw her with a tall guy a few weeks ago.”

Zhang Yi Hai frowned when he heard Qian Ji’s words.
