404 Courage

Without knowing why Fang Su Jin began to feel a little anxious when she heard Zhang Yi Hai’s voice. She quickly look away, worried that Zhang Li Xue was going to notice her strange behavior.

A few seconds later, Fang Su Jin began to get close to Zhang Li Xue again, wanting to hear the sibling’s conversation. Just as she was inching closer, Zhang Li Xue had spoken again.

“I’m at the mall with Su Jin.” Zhang Li Xue glanced at her friend and smiled.

Fang Su Jin froze. She wondered how would Zhang Yi Hai reacted upon hearing that she was with his sister.

“Sister Fang?”

She held her breath when she heard him speak her name. There was an indescribable sourness in her heart. It seemed that she had not heard Zhang Yi Hai’s voice for a long time.

After Zhang Yi Hai sent her back a few weeks ago, Fang Su Jin had never spoken to Zhang Yi Hai again or heard anything from him.

His confession scared her. But at the same time, Fang Su Jin found that she could not stop thinking about this young man.

“Sister, you are with Sister Fang, just the two of you?” Zhang Yi Hai asked. “Are you sure it’s going to be alright?”

“This is not the first time that we go out together.” Zhang Li Xue laughed. “What are you worried about? Will you feel more at ease if you talk to her?”

There was a part of her that wanted Zhang Yi Hai to say no and another part of her wanted to talk to this young man just so she could hear his voice again.

Then, she heard his answer.

“No,” Zhang Yi Hai spoke. “It’s alright. I trust that Sister Fang and you will be alright.”

Fang Su Jin was deflated. She was a little disappointed by his answer.

On the other side, Zhang Yi Hai was not in a good condition either.

He wanted to tell his sister to hand the phone to Fang Su Jin just so he could hear her voice. However, he decided against it upon realizing that he still wanted to keep his matter a secret from his sister.

Zhang Yi Hai knew that Fang Su Jin would be embarrassed if his sister started to suspect something. He did not want to put any pressure on Fang Su Jin before she gave him her answer.

In the end, he chose to stick to the reason he called his sister. “Sister, I heard that you went for a check-up. How is it?”

The sibling exchanged a few words. Because she was still with Fang Su Jin, Zhang Li Xue decided not to prolong her conversation with her brother.

As she hung up the phone, Zhang Li Xue turned to Fang Su Jin and saw that her friend was stirring her drinks absentmindedly. Zhang Li Xue stared at her friend for a long time. Seeing that her friend remained in a trance, Zhang Li Xue decided to call her name.

“Su Jin?”

“Ah?” Fang Su Jin looked up and saw Zhang Li Xue’s smile.

“What are you thinking about?”

“Of course, I’m thinking about that exhibition. The exhibition is starting soon and I’m getting anxious just thinking about it.” Fang Su Jin cleared her throat and glanced at Zhang Li Xue’s phone on the table. “Are you done talking to your brother?”

“Uh-huh.”

Fang Su Jin lowered her head to stir her drinks again. She took a sip from the raspberry juice and spoke, “How is he? He should be busy with his assignment and stuff right?”

Fortunately for Fang Su Jin, Zhang Li Xue did not seem to notice that her friend was attempting to dig up some news about her brother through her.

“Hmm... A few days ago I overheard my mom mention that Yi Hai has been busy with some activities with his friends. I’m not sure what it was.” Zhang Li Xue heaved a long sigh. “Alright. Let’s not talk about him anymore. There was nothing interesting about him.”

Just like that, Zhang Li Xue managed to change the subject and the two friends began to talk about something else.

Their get-together lasted for two hours.

Later, Zhang Li Xue was picked up by her mother at the mall.

After she parted with her friends, Fang Su Jin went back to her house and stayed in her room for a long time. She took out her phone and stared at Zhang Yi Hai’s number.

Fang Su Jin took a deep breath as if she had just made up her mind. She saw up straight at the sofa and clicked on Zhang Yi Hai’s name. She wrote him a text, but before she could finish her sentence, Fang Su Jin quickly deleted everything.

The same things happened a few times. In the end, Fang Su Jin threw her phone to the side without sending her text to Zhang Yi Hai.

She wanted to talk to Zhang Yi Hai, but at the same time, Fang Su Jin did not have the courage to call his number or send out a text. It was conflicting.

A long, heavy sigh escaped her. “Fang Su Jin, Fang Su Jin, just what do you want?”

She could not understand what was going on with her heart or mind anymore. Not too long ago, she would still got scared whenever she saw Zhang Yi Hai. But now, she wanted to see that young man’s face all the time.

Didn’t she already make her decision that her age gap would make it impossible for them to stay together? Then, why did she continue to think about Zhang Yi Hai and hoped that he would call or text her?

Fang Su Jin thought that she had really gone crazy.

She slumped her body on the sofa and messed up her hair in frustration. Then, a few minutes later, Fang Su Jin began to sit straight again.

Fang Su Jin grabbed her phone at the side and stared at Zhang Yi Hai’s name again.
