Chapter 69 Expensive Knives

'If these two knives belong to the Six knives of Doom set, then buying them at any price would be a jackpot, but then again, I don't know where the other four knives are to complete the set.'

Alex was so obsessed with the Six knives of Doom set because it was one of the very few items in the game that broke the balance of common sense and was desired by every player without exception.

The Six knives of Doom set was a unique item set made from three completely different knife sets, each set of two knives representing a completely different element.

On their own, those three sets of knives were useless compared to other similar quality items, but after being owned by the same owner, those six useless knives became one of the most broken item sets in the game.

'I may be wrong and waste a lot of money buying some random useless throwing knives, but if I don't get them, I will not be sleeping well for months thinking about missing a game-breaking item.'

Alex decided to acquire the knives even though he was not certain if the knives belonged to the Six knives of Doom set.

Alex didn't have much information on the Six knives of Doom set, but what he knew about them was enough for him to take small gambles.

----------------------

'The price has already reached 610K Gold coins, and these four idiots are still bidding without slowing down.'

Alex didn't start bidding as he was waiting for the bidding war between the one player representing a major guild and three Marquess nobles to get a little calm down, but not a single one of them was ready to back down.

'I am joining this Bidding war.' Alex raised his hand, and Cedric immediately increased the price from 700K to 740K Gold coins.

After Alex placed the bid, his fellow player looked at him, and after a few seconds of thinking, he decided to quit the bidding war as he had no information about Alex, and the item was already getting out close to its maximum value.

"740K Gold Coins," Alex bid.

"780K Gold Coins,"

.............

"1 Million Gold Coins,"

.............

.............

"1.2 Million Gold Coins," Alex bid.

'My max budget is three million gold coins, and if these three keep on betting, it would be spent on this speculative item.'

Alex originally came to the auction to get a good beast companion, and at the rate, the bidding was going, his chances of getting any other item in the auction were dwindling.

"1.25 Million Gold Coins,"

'These three know I want these and throwing knives, and they want me to spend maximum money to acquire them.' Alex thought after seeing Asdar looking at him for a moment with a cheap smirk.

'You three don't know my budget, so let's see if you can play this game with me to the end.' Alex thought.

.............

"1.55 Million Gold Coins," Francis bid

"1.55 Million Gold Coins Going Once.....Twice." Francis had an ugly expression seeing Cedric ready to announce him as the bid winner.

'He won't be bidding now.' Alex raised his hand at the last moment, but his expression was hesitant.

"1.6 Million Gold Coins," Alex bid.

After hearing Cedric announce Alex's bid, Francis sighed visibly and looked at his fellow Marquess, not with a happy expression.

'I was expecting them to bid once more, but it looks like these two don't want to risk their money,' Alex thought, seeing the other two Marquess not showing any sign of raising their hands to bid.

"1.6 Million Gold Coins Going Once.....Twice.....SOLD."

After Cedric announced Alex as the bid winner, he could hear chuckles from the three Marquesses and other participants.

All the participants believed that the Space Phantom throwing knives were only a part of an unknown legacy and knew their actual value was a maximum of one million gold coins.

"Congratulations, Earl Hidden One, on buying the Space Phantom throwing knives set for such a low price," Asdar said, giving Alex a cheeky smirk.

'I will personally kill this traitor bastard, and if I can't buy a good mount with my remaining funds, I will add some torture before killing him.' Alex thought, giving Asdar no reaction to his cheap taunt.

After Alex bought the Space Phantom throwing knives, he didn't bid on any other item for the next two hours, patiently waiting for the companion beast to start getting auctioned.

'I have a little over 15K White flame coins [1.5 million gold coins], and I would need half a million to buy the last [SS] Rank legacy and the final part of the key to the Monarch tomb.'

'I hope I can buy a flying-type beast companion with one million gold coins.' Alex thought, enjoying the crazy bidding war between a Marquess and an Earl player.

'I wasn't expecting the Duke to place a Rank three forging flame in the auction without doing any publicity to get the best price.' Alex thought, looking at the Light yellow flame on the stand inside a clear glass cube.

All forging flames were rare but finding one above Rank two was very hard as they were produced in nature, and it was impossible to create a forging flame artificially.

The bidding for the forging flame continued for some time, and in the end, the player purchased the flame at the price of 2.2 million gold coins.

'The guild should be desperate to get a Rank three forging flame to spend twice the market price to buy it.' Alex thought, seeing the player smiling ear to ear after buying the flame.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Let's start the final segment of the auction," Cedric said.

After hearing Cedric's words, all the players and NPC nobles got fully focused as they knew the last segment of the auction would consist of only beast companions.

"The final segment of today's auction will only have twelve items, and as most of you heard the rumors, the final twelve items are all beast companions," Cedric said, and immediately two guards entered the hall with a small cage covered in black cloth.

"This beautiful little Ibex goat Buck is today's first beast companion with the astonishing natural potential of peak Rank three."

Cedric explained some more things about Diamond Horn Ibex while most participants excitedly waited for him to start the bidding.

-----------------

[Diamond Horn Ibex ] (Rare Elite)

Nature: Tameable

Condition: Calm

Description: A cub of a Diamond Horn Ibex with the natural potential to reach Peak Third Rank.

-----------------

'It is a nice tameable beast with good potential, but I want a flying-type beast.' Alex thought.

In the Ancient world, the mounts and beast companions had completely different specialties.

The mounts would only help a person travel fast, while a beast companion would be a loyal companion who would help its master in many different situations.

In the Ancient world, beast companions were very rare as most wild monsters were not tameable, with only a few exceptions, such as the wandering world bosses.

Taming wandering world bosses was possible but doing it was nearly impossible without overwhelming strength and resources, as the beast at that level was intelligent and would rather be killed with pride than become a human slave.

The only way normal people without strength and resources could get a beast companion was by making a blood bond with a newborn cub of a strong wild beast.

Alex was not interested in the first beast companion, but most participants were salivating, looking at the tiny goat cub.

"The Diamond Horn Ibex cub base price is 50K Gold Coins, and the Minimum Bid Increment is 5K Gold coins," Cedric said, and immediately intense bidding started.

'This Ibex Buck should sell for close to 300K gold coins, ' Alex thought, seeing close to forty participants bidding for the Ibex Buck.

The beast companions have different classifications that decide their price in the market, but the natural growth potential of the beast was always the main deciding factor of its value.

All beast cubs have the natural potential to reach a certain Rank of strength as they reach adulthood, but they will only reach their full potential if they get proper care and an ideal environment to grow without being restricted.

The natural potential of a beast cub didn't decide its future strength because a beast could evolve and reach a higher strength level.

The process of a beast evolving was very hard as the beast needed high bloodline potential and a large number of resources to break its natural shekels.

Any person [NPC or Player] could only do a blood bond with a beast companion once, and if their beast companion dies, they will not be able to make another blood bond with a different beast.

There was only one solution to this problem, and that was to increase one own strength, as one will be able to make one new blood bond after every successful Rank promotion.

"[For Example: A Rank three warrior could make up to four blood bonds with four different beasts."

As most people [NPCs or Players] would never cross the limits of the third Rank, they would select the best beast companion to cover their possible future weakness.
