Chapter 117 Another Scapegoat

pαndα,noνɐ1,сoМ After the surprising apology coming from Priest Tauren, both Princess Kate and Grisleda were astonished except for Lei Zhen.

"Priest Tauren is too polite. We were both at fault since I was testing your character as well." Lei Zhen chuckled softly, removing his mask and revealing his face.

Given that it was their first time meeting, both of them had the intention to test their character and see if they are worthy.

It was just a shame that the two of them didn't expect to have the same intention, resulting in these misunderstandings.

"So you two were toying with us?" Kate twitched her mouth and asked. From her expression alone, it was clear that a wrong answer would result in catastrophe.

Thus, Lei Zhen calmly patted her shoulder and smiled slightly.

"As your chancellor, I'm required to test anyone that is coming to close contact with you. After all, I can't afford to be in any danger like the previous incident." He said, winking his eyes and causing Kate's face to blush in redness.

"Y-You could have given me a heads up next time…" Kate turned around and said timidly, acting as if she was a little girl.

Meanwhile, Griselda was in disbelief when she saw how easily deceived Kate was in front of the sugary words of Lei Zhen.

'This man is indeed dangerous with just his words alone.' She thought to herself, her eyes glaring at the calm demeanor of Lei Zhen.

Sometime later, Priest Tauren asked for the Ferold's Ring from Princess Kate.

"I shall purify the Ferold's Ring and return to Olympus soon." Priest Tauren smiled slightly.

"What's the rush, Priest Tauren? Is Yors Castle not to your liking?" Lei Zhen asked.

"But given your magnanimous personality, I doubt that's the case."

"I was ordered by the Archbishop this time, so I'm not allowed to delay my journey any longer after purifying the Ferold's Ring." Priest Tauren calmly explained his reasoning.

At the same time, he began chanting some words and casting upon the Ferold's Ring that Kate brought out to the table.

Soon, a blinding light emitted from the Ferold's Ring, and a dark mist slowly seeped out, shocking Griselda and Kate.

As for Lei Zhen, he wasn't that shocked considering he was the bearer of this bane for quite a while. He was confident that the dark mist that was purified was the curse that affected him.

The moment Priest Tauren finished purifying the Ferold's Ring, the atmosphere seemed to become more delightful.

While the rest were mesmerized by the new appearance of the Ferold's Ring, Lei Zhen subtly received a new system prompt.

Ding!

[You have received Staff of Flagrance!]

'Staff of Flagrance?' A look of astonishment could be seen on his face when he received this reward.

"No wonder… so the reward was only given now because the Ferold's Ring wasn't purified." He muttered, recalling the Hidden Quest reward that Robert Knightman requested him.

The Hidden Quest stated that he must bring the Ferold's Ring and have an audience with the King of Yors Castle, but who to bring it to, remained unknown.

Normally, people would think the Ferold's Ring must be brought to the king.

However, it seemed like Lei Zhen had fallen for this misdirection and misconception of analogy.

The whole time, the Ferold's Ring needed to be brought to the priest from the City of Olympus and a condition of having the ring purified was required.

'What an unpredictable Magnolia. Even I was fooled miserably and believed the treasury trove from the Royal Palace is the reward.' Lei Zhen thought to himself.

After getting stunned by such a turnaround event, Lei Zhen casually bid farewell to Priest Tauren.

Priest Tauren was adamant about returning to the City of Olympus that even the convincing of two beauties were not enough to make him stay.

Griselda was the most bummed out as she felt that another scapegoat had managed to escape from the palm of her hands.

'Damn it, why are priests so stubborn and blockheaded? Can't you tell I want you to stay to help us out?' Griselda cursed inwardly.

Seeing her displeased attitude, Lei Zhen shook his head in response.

"With your easy-to-read facial expression, even a blind man could tell you want him to do something, Griselda." Lei Zhen chuckled softly and teased her.

"Tsk, you men are always like that. Irresponsible and love to shift responsibility away to others."

"Please don't group me into those "men" that you're talking about. I take my responsibility very seriously."

"Agreed, Lei Zhen is definitely not that type of man." Kate intervened and nodded her head. "Lei Zhen is responsible, hardworking, and one that you can rely on."

Griselda clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes upon hearing Kate's description of Lei Zhen. "I know you have some interest in him, but you don't have to flash it out in the open like this."

"W-What?? N-No, I'm not…" Kate instantly turned bashful and covered her face with both of her hands.

Meanwhile, Lei Zhen calmly stood up and left the room silently.

It's not that he didn't understand Kate's feelings, but he was just thinking her affection toward him was not the kind of love you get from a romantic relationship.

It was more of a gratitude and thankfulness kind of love since he appeared at her greatest downfall.

'Sooner or later, Kate will realize this herself and recall it as a hilarious joke.' Lei Zhen smiled slightly, putting his mask back on.

Just when he was about to return to his room, Lei Zhen was stopped by a familiar person.

"Didn't you leave already, Priest Tauren?" Lei Zhen asked in a confused tone.

"Yes, but I was waiting here for you."

"Here for me?"

"Mhmm, there is something that I wish to disclose with you privately. Hence, I waited for you." Priest Tauren smiled and replied.

Lei Zhen nodded his head.

"Very well then, we can discuss it in my office." He then said, leading the way to another path.
