Chapter 155 Robert’s Explanation

As Lei Zhen ignored the corrupted nobles pleading for their lives, and tried to continue his path, he was temporarily halted by an imperial guard.

"Apologies, but the Royal Palace is currently off-limits to outsiders." The imperial guard stated, clearly not recognizing Lei Zhen.

Just when Lei Zhen wanted to speak to reveal his identity, another imperial guard that was beating up the nobles noticed him.

'Wait a minute, isn't that the Chancellor?' The imperial guard screamed internally when he realized his comrade was stopping him.

"Hurry up and let the Chancellor pass. Who could take the blame if our action delayed the Chancellor?" The imperial guard was clever enough to shout it aloud for his comrade to hear it.

And just like that, the imperial guard that halted Lei Zhen before quickly bowed his head and apologized.

"No worries, you are just doing your duty." Lei Zhen said, not paying it to mind.

Right now was the purge of the corrupted nobles, so it was a given that security would be extremely tight, preventing any mishaps from happening.

After all, it was also an order handed down by King Francis. No one would dare neglect his orders unless they have a death wish.

With the imperial guards recognizing Lei Zhen's identity, he was able to bypass most of the checking points and proceeded ahead.

And just when he was about to enter his office, Lei Zhen subtly saw a figure by the corner. Instantly his expression changed behind the mask as if he would never forget about this person.

"Robert…" Lei Zhen muttered, pausing his footsteps.

He was the cause of all of these and after a long time, he finally decided to show up.

"Can we have a talk?" Robert Knightman asked.

Lei Zhen nodded his head.

"Come to the office." He then said, heading in first without bothering to be polite with Robert.

A few minutes later, Robert was casually sitting on a chair and staring at Lei Zhen.

"I know you must be confused about why I would come here, but I believe it's time to explain something to you." Robert calmly said.

Lei Zhen remained silent, with his intention being clear.

Seeing that, Robert nodded his head and continued to explain the past. "Back then, I was strolling around in the Town of Wales, wandering from place to place. After wandering for some time, my vision blurred for a moment, and I was told to head toward Lux Forest through the goddess."

"Goddess?" Lei Zhen raised an eyebrow.

This wasn't his first time hearing about the so-called goddess.

From the Arachne event to the recent Priest Tauren, both of them had referred to a goddess at some point.

"Just who is this goddess that you mentioned?" Lei Zhen asked, seemingly trying to gather some information.

Alas, to that question, Robert Knightman could only shake his head as he doesn't even know the identity of the goddess as well.

"When my vision met her, it was just a glaring flash of light, covering her entire body." He explained.

Although disappointed by this, Lei Zhen knew it wasn't going to be easy to find something out.

"Anyway, so because of the goddess, you waited at the pit and acted as if you were there for a long time?" Lei Zhen asked.

"Yup, I expected you to believe it slightly through my demeanor and action but then you became suspicious all of a sudden, rejecting me outright. Given that, I had no other choice but to straight up follow the goddess' instructions on what to do when the person that went to the pit refused me." Robert explained.

Despite the explanation being a bit far-fetched, Lei Zhen finally got the gist of what happened.

Both Robert and him are merely the chess pieces of the so-called goddess, and the goddess' identity still remains a secret.

'What a fearsome goddess.' Lei Zhen thought to himself.

As someone that tried to scheme, he realized he was far behind the meticulous planning of the goddess.

"Anyway, you can leave now that you explained it to me." Lei Zhen said, wanting to be alone for the moment. There might not be much that they have conversed about, but the details of it were simply too shocking.

After all, this just confirmed one thing that had been brooding his mind since day one. His transportation to Lux Forest wasn't accidental but was done on purpose.

'Could the goddess be that character creation woman? The mature woman clad in green robes with long brown hair?' Lei Zhen thought, feeling that the chances were high since he had an extra class available to him at the beginning compared to others.

pαndα`noνɐ1--сoМ While he was thinking deeply, Robert stood up and reminded him of something before leaving.

"Oh right, there's a council meeting in two hours, so even though you plan on quitting your post. You'll still have to go there. Otherwise, the citizens of Yors Castle would be disappointed."

Once he finished his words, Robert vanished like a ghost.

"That damn Robert and his intelligence network." Lei Zhen clicked his tongue in annoyance.

The only time he mentioned wanting to quit the post of Chancellor was during the time in Royal Palace when it was just him and Kate alone.

The fact that he knew about this meant that they were being spied on from somewhere that even he was unable to detect.

And not even the mapping system was able to detect them either, causing him to doubt the reliability of the map function sharply.

'If the map failed to discover the presence of a spy, then most likely, the spy had some sort of invisible cloak on to prevent them from being discovered. And if this is the case, then the Magnolia world is truly fearsome.' He thought to himself, feeling like he had just seen the tip of an iceberg.

Shaking his head from overthinking again, Lei Zhen began to work on the pile of documents.

After organizing some of the documents and finishing some loose ends, two hours had already gone by.
