Chapter 4.2. The Trigger Was An Event

When I put the shovel and scoop in the little bucket, Yamiyo usually says she will clean up the mess with me, but today she nodded and went ahead to wash her hands. Smiling, I grab the bucket and trudge over to the tool shed.

What’s for lunch? That is important. I need to think about my training, but I am a toddler now. If I don’t get plenty of nutrition and exercise in moderation, I will have trouble with my health in the future due to metabolic syndrome or something. I don’t want the doctor to tell me to exercise, so I do a lot of exercises. So I’m starving, so rice is an important event for me.

As for me, curry is good. Because I can have another serving. I was about to wash my hands, thinking I had to beat off all the other bad kids and get a second helping.

“Kyaaa! Yamiyo-chan!”

I heard a child’s voice coming from the washroom, it was a scream. And the scary one at that. And children running away in a panic down the hallway.

“What’s wrong?”

“En-chan, I’m in trouble! I was washing my hands, and a ghost came out!”

says a friend who ran away crying. A ghost?

“It came out of the wall! Yamiyo-chan was protecting me, and the ghost attacked her!”

The other friend tells me, and I know it’s not just something that happened. It wasn’t a children’s fight or anything. Could it be that a monster had appeared?

“Everyone goes to the teacher! I’m going to go save Yamiyo-chan!”

Someone said it’s natural to save your friends, and they’re right. And since the little girl could escape, I thought the monster might not be that strong, so I ran out to Yamiyo’s place. I thought it was a weak monster that even I could beat.

Please don’t call me a calculating person. I’m not the hero of a novel, so I don’t want to risk my life. Isn’t that normal?

“Yeah, save Yamiyo-chan.”

“Good luck, Empress-chan!”

The little girls wave me off with a flick of their hands. Empress is my nickname, but I’ve always wondered what an Empress is. A fellow press? Well, I don’t have time to think about that now.

I moved my little arms and legs as hard as I could and headed for the washroom.

When I arrived at the washroom, I knew what was going on. Yamiyo was crouched down and holding her head. I saw an old woman with a semi-transparent haze of darkness growing over Yamiyo’s young body.

It is not that Yamiyo has awakened to the power of a ghost user. I have seen this situation in novels and games.

“Possession, huh? If that’s the case, it’s a Wraith.”

Among monsters, a nasty one that physical attacks cannot penetrate. It’s a Wraith. Its special ability is [possession]. It is a monster that possesses humans and manipulates them to kill other humans.

I’m not good at remembering names, but I can remember the names and special abilities of monsters that are easy to understand. It’s probably a gamer thing.

“It was an early event, I think. In the novel, the protagonist saves a girl who’s easily possessed. It was the same in the game.”

I know how to beat it. But the fact that I can’t do it now makes me break out in a cold sweat.

Okay, normal monsters have walls and stuff, so even if they come out from the dungeon the adventurers will take them down. But a ghost that can penetrate walls can do this? It would be an unpleasant situation in real life. I understand why a walking girl got possessed in a game.

While I was wondering what to do, Yamiyo’s groan of agony turned into a hoarse voice like an old woman. Yamiyo stopped crouching and stood up like a ghost.

“Uaaaah, diediediedie.”

She must be completely possessed. When I thought it swayed its body, it came toward me.

I couldn’t beat it. But I still had time to spare. The Wraith could only attack people with the possessed person’s body. Yamiyo does not have a knife, cutter, or scissors in her hand. She is just a little girl.

I, an adult in spirit, could not get through to her. I subdued her with a little time to spare, and all I had to do was wait for the adventurers to arrive.

“Sorry, but I’m going to have to hurt you a little. Sorry if I bruise you.”

“Diediediedie.”

Yamiyo, her eyes bloodshot with madness, punches out. But a little girl punch doesn’t work on me. She’s a little faster, but she’s still a powerless little girl.

“Yo!”

When I guard with my arm, I restrain Yamiyo’s arm before it becomes a spoiled child punch. If I hook her leg and knock her down as it is, I’m done controlling her. I took judo in high school. If it was just a little girl, I could take her down.

I even had time to confirm that Yamiyo didn’t hit her head on the floor. It was when he slowly knocked her down with an osoto-gari and tried to restrain her by carrying her body the rest of the way.

[Create Dark Weapon]

Yamiyo mutters something as she knocks me down and rampages away. And the aura of darkness gathers in Yamiyo’s hand. It’s a moment like this, but I was impressed by the light. It is amazing to see a magic aura in real life. Through the TV, it didn’t seem real, and I thought it was CG.

But I was impressed until the aura gathered in Yamiyo’s hands, and turned into a sword of darkness.

Oh, isn’t this awesome?

I thought I was drunk, but when Yamiyo swung the sword so wildly that it snatched my arm, I realized how great magic was.

I’m so surprised to see that my arm was cut in half, because of the graze.
