Chapter 14.2. Researching About Job

It would have been difficult to make it into a popular solo action game, so it would be nice to praise the production company. I like retro RPGs. Of course, I got involved.

I remember gamers making fun of it, saying it was the Final Dragon Reincarnation. But it was a game made by taking the best parts of the original, so even though the naming sense was a bit corny, it was fun.

I heard that the big fans of the original were furious, though. Well, that’s not unreasonable. And they even released weapons and jobs that were more powerful than the original. It’s a common occurrence in in-game adaptations.

With that said, I ended up living in The Night of Magic game world as a gamer who destroys the original.

I cannot use magic that is not in the game, and I cannot use mana in combat unless I choose the [Fight] command. I will try my best to see if I can use the novel’s magic in the future, but there is a corner of my mind that says it is hopeless. Well, if I think of it as a disadvantage of becoming stronger, I might be able to tolerate it, but it’s a shame. No, I’m not giving up. It’s the same mana, right? Mine is in MP notation, though.

I don’t think so, but it’s ‘mana points,’ right? I’m not the only one with [Magic Points]? I’m not the only one with otherworldly specs, am I? No, it should be mana because I can activate my magic armor.

Since the game is based on the novel, I can understand many things. For example, recovery magic.

[Minor Heal I], the magic a priest can use can recover about 8 to 12 HP. That magic can heal the whole body if you are an ordinary person.

However, it is almost useless for magicians. Why is that? Magicians are resistant to magic. It is not limited to offensive magic. Therefore, [Minor Heal I] can only heal a minor wound.

Do you understand? In other words, the amount of HP recovery is expressed this way. In games, a strong wizard has 100 HP. In the real world, that would be strange, wouldn’t it? It is not weird if they have the same HP as an ordinary person. It’s not surprising [Minor Heal I] can heal the entire body.

But when we consider the idea of resistance here, the more powerful the magician is, the more resistant they are, so they cannot recover unless they use powerful recovery magic. That is why they calculated the maximum HP to be large. It’s well thought out.

Therefore, Yamiyo, a magician, can recover from only minor wounds. I found this out while trying to heal a previously injured Yamiyo. It’s a good thing I found this out during training. If we had found out during the actual battle. I would have panicked.

“Mii-sama, are you tired?”

Yamiyo pokes me on the cheek as I’m absentmindedly thinking about my job research, and asks with a gentle smile.

“Nah. I’m still fine! I’m already level 3 too.”

I smile, bends my arm, and give a thumbs-up. Yamiyo giggles happily at the adorable sight. The others looked at me with smiles on their faces.

“I think we can do 35 more battles!”

“That’s a specific number, isn’t it?”

Yamiyo tilted her head curiously, but proficiency is not the number of my enemy, but the number of times I killed them. It’s one time when I kill a swarm. If I kill a single one, it’s one time. I want to fight 35 more times to raise my proficiency to five.

“Also, Mii-sama. Why do you do such strange fighting?”

“Weird??”

I don’t know what she’s talking about. Well, I know what she means.

“After defeating one of the enemies, you should leave. Your magic armor will also stop, and the instructor will be furious if you’re messing around.”

Yamiyo warns me stealthily in a whisper in my ear. Yamiyo’s exhaling breath hangs on me.

“Ummm, I’m practicing to see if I can keep my magical armor activated all the time. I’ve explained it to the instructor.”

“I see. You can’t activate your magic armor unless a monster is nearby, right?”

“That’s right. That’s why I have to practice!”

I reply with a huff and a breath, but it’s a lie.

When the enemy’s hate goes to another adventurer, the battle ends. If I kill even one demon at that point, it counts toward my proficiency count. It’s a trick I can only do in the real world.

If three of them show up, I hope they’ll be counted as separate battles, and I want the system counts them as three battles. I’m sorry to the escorting adventurers, I want to do it efficiently. There aren’t that many demons out there.

I noticed this trick because when an enemy drifted away from me. The system will treat it as if the enemy fled and the battle ended. So I could easily set my proficiency level to 3.

I only get to fight about three times an hour, partly because I have to separate Yamiyo from the enemy. If I hadn’t noticed this trick, I wouldn’t have been able to fight 15 times.

“Fight a lot, and you’ll thank everyone in my guards!”

Magic stones, item drops, or materials I can take from bodies are worth money. The materials here are cheap, but at least it’s a thank you. I’m here in the dungeon to take advantage of Yamiyo. I’m going to give her everything as a thank you.

I won’t give her the item box contents, though.

A mysterious design. When I kill my enemies, I can get magic stones and materials from their bodies. But my Item Box is automatically filled with magic stones and materials too. Does that mean I have twice as many dropped items? Well, only certain items can go into the item box.

I casually asked about the item box, and no one could use it. That’s not so surprising. It would take a high-ranking magician to create subspace, right? There are no such magical tools, either.

So, it’s a secret, secret, Miu-chan’s secret. The item box has become one of my top secrets.

My equipment is stored in subspace, and there is no pattern of it appearing and unfolding with the light, from the bracelet state or something. Because in the game, the scene where the female character changes clothes in the changing room is important. The female characters are in their underwear and talking with each other for a long time, rather than having a transformation scene that takes place in a moment.

I think that the author of “The Night of Magic” was thinking about how he could gain popularity.

“We will finish our break in 30 minutes. After that, we’ll start fighting for about three hours.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Okay, sir.”

The instructor panned his hand, and we were off to another afternoon of combat.

Then, when my proficiency level reached 5, that guy showed up.
