Chapter 33.1. Yamiyo In Training

-Yamiyo’s POV-

Teijo Yamiyo wields her sword and quickly steps in to move. A scarecrow on its way cuts through the air and falls. At 9 years old, Yamiyo shows off her prodigious swordsmanship. Her figure was as beautiful as the starlight shining in the darkness.

[Consecutive Slash]

Her sword was imbued with the light of mana, and the speed with which Yamiyo wielded it exceeded the limits of humans. It was like a momentary sparkle, and the sword strike, which was hard to see, was beautiful.

“Well done, Yamiyo-sama. Even though it is a simple [Consecutive Slash], it is difficult to swing that beautifully and that fast.”

“Thank you, Instructor.”

With a snap, she sheathed her sword, and Yamiyo smiles. Her maid brings a cold towel, so she wipes her face lightly and brushes her pigtails.

The place where Yamiyo is now is the Teijo family’s training grounds. It is a well-maintained clearing, and the walls surrounding the training ground are covered with strong protection magic to reduce the possibility of stray bullets flying outside.

At 9 year old, Yamiyo had trained as hard as an adult. She’s already a full-fledged swordsman. Yamiyo is skilled enough to defeat the average samurai.

“Miss Yamiyo. Excuse me. I think you’ve trained too hard. You should play with Miss Miu, don’t you think?”

Worried about Yamiyo’s recent focus on training, the instructor encourages her to play with her friends. Children need to play with their friends. It is not good to be absorbed only in playing, but it is necessary to have fun.

Especially high-ranking nobles need to be good communicators. Many things can’t be acquired by studying alone, such as how to play, and talk according to their opponent. It is also synonymous with prearranged social gatherings, especially at tea parties and evening gatherings where you have to put down roots.

The only ones who look mushy and pretend to be cool are those with overwhelming power who don’t need to worry about others. And there is nothing to be gained by doing so. So everyone was worried about Yamiyo.

“I understand. But I want the power to be able to protect Mii-Sama.”

Yamiyo also understood what the instructor said. After all, she’s only 9 years old. She’s of a playful age.

However, Yamiyo was of little use during the battle with the stone golem. She managed to land one blow, and Mii-Sama thanked her with the cutest smile in the world because the stone golem almost hit her, which made me happy, but it was only one blow. It was beyond pathetic.

So, Yamiyo wanted the power to defeat the stone golem when the same thing happened. Therefore, she refused to play with Mii-Sama and trained with her.

“Yamiyo, you are too narrow-minded.”

When the instructors were at a loss as to how to persuade the stubborn Yamiyo, a dignified and solemn voice called out from behind. Yamiyo turned around at the familiar voice, and as expected, her father was walking in a kimono.

“Father. What does it mean?”

She feels like she’s been denied what she does, and puffs out her cheeks to give him a childish look.

Seeing this, Ouga chuckles that Yamiyo’s still a child, but decides to tell his daughter a simple way out of the current situation.

“Weapons. You used the mass-produced Magic Armor Kotetsu Type 22, right?”

“Yes, it is the latest model. Any more than this, and it would be a dedicated machine, but I’m still growing, and as expected, no matter how much money I have, it’s a waste.”

Yamiyo quietly looks at the magic armor she’s used. That is true. Kotetsu Type 22 was remodeled to Yamiyo’s size. You can’t make something that costs that much money, such as a special machine, for a 9-year-old. At least if she’s 12 years old.

However, it is limited to magic armor.

“If it’s the magic armor, there should be no problem. Use this.”

With a flick of his chin, the secretary handed a long, thin box made of paulownia wood to Yamiyo. The paulownia box’s covered with several sealed talismans, and people can feel the darkness’ strong power from within.

“Father, what is this?”

Yamiyo, sensing something powerful from inside the box, asks suspiciously, but Ouga urges her to open the box.

The box is made of paulownia wood, and when she peels off the seal, unties the string, and gently opens it, she’ll find a sword in a black lacquered sheath. Just by looking at it, she can sense its tremendous power.

“The name of the sword is [Night Heaven]. It is one of the magic tools handed down in our family since ancient times.”

“[Night Heaven]. What a beautiful blade.”

When she pulled out the sword, the blade seemed to glow like the light of a star shining in the darkness. The dark aura covered the sword, and Yamiyo understood the mighty power of the sword.

After all, pulling out the sword felt like her skin was trembling, and she felt her mana sucked out of her hand. No, her mana gets sucked away.

“Guh. Father, what is this?”

“It is proof that you are still inexperienced. That sword absorbs mana. The only way to prevent it is to manipulate mana, so it doesn’t absorb your mana.”

Yamiyo’s head wobbled, and she almost fell to her knees. Gritting her teeth, Yamiyo endures, but she will soon runs out of mana.

Seeing this, Ouga remained unconcerned and had a look on his face that said it was to be expected. It is only natural. [Night Heaven] is a sword with that much power. It is one of our family heirlooms that chooses its owner. A half-boiled person can’t even hold it, let alone handle it.

“Yamiyo, with the amount of your mana, you should be able to fight for several minutes even in your current state. You also could cut one or two limbs of the stone golem.”

“…That’s great. Thank you, Father.”

Several advantages of this sword immediately came to Yamiyo’s mind. She can use it in an emergency, and if used in regular training, it can be her exercise in mana manipulation. And, since she could return to her usual training pace, she could play with Mii-Sama.

However, Father told me more than that.
