Chapter 62.1. The Adamantine’s Defense

-Adamantine’s POV-

The scissors mantis attacked like an avalanche, but the iron spiders mostly held them back. Nevertheless, more than 2,000 monsters were rushing in without the iron spiders.

“We have about 700 over here. It’s a little less, but maybe we can do it!”

“Yes, we are! Yay, get fired up, you guys!”

Adamantine raised her axe and roared, and the Martini leader began preparing his magic to fight alongside his friends.

Scissors mantis can be seen approaching rapidly. Monsters that fed on people were approaching with their dull torsos swinging and their many legs moving at high speed. Its dull-colored body was harder than metal, and the sharpness of its sickle was sharper than any blade. And, annoyingly, it also flies.

“We must stop here! Not a single enemy must pass through! Release your magic, all of you!”

“Ha!”

A knight in samurai armor, his great sword at the ready, gives the order. With orderly movements, the knights began to cast their magic. Their movements were trained. They’re nothing compared to the adventurers.

[Fireball]

[Fireball]

[Fireball]

[Fireball]

The knights create a fireball the size of a human and shoot it at the approaching group of monstrous mantises. The high-heat Fireball flies in a parabolic trajectory and hits the scissors mantis. They made a huge explosion, and flames and hot winds burned the monsters.

“As expected of the knights. You can’t beat them in combat, can you?”

“They’re a well-trained army, aren’t they?”

They released Fireballs one after another, and they quickly reduced the scissors mantis. However, new scissors mantis are slipping out from behind them.

“Leader. Isn’t it still strange? There are so few knights.”

“That’s true. Only less than two hundred men are guarding the commoners’ section. That’s too few.”

Tsubame frowned at the inexplicable and expressed her doubts. Adamantine thought that was true, and she also felt that it was strange. In previous years, there would be more knights on guard duty. Under the serious-looking captain, the knights seemed elite from their movements, but had they decided to respond with quality rather than numbers?

But she thought about such questions only for a moment.

“I guess that means the big guys have their reasons. We’ll defeat the enemy in front of us!”

“Well, that’s right. Well, let’s attack.”

Holding up their spears, the friends laughed and accumulated mana. Adamantine concentrated mana into her axe as well.

“Right. Then let the attack begin! Let’s show these knights the power of an adventurer!”

The axe, which had begun to glow red with heat, took a large swing, and Adamantine swung it sideways. The axe made a heavy whistling sound and released a red blade.

[Heat Axe]

The red blade flew as if crawling on the ground, cutting through the scissors mantis in one piece. The scissors mantis, their torso cut in half, burns up due to the high heat imparted by the blade, but their followers approach, stomping on the corpses, unconcerned that they may burn somewhat.

[Spear Thrust]

[Arrow Rain]

[Windcutter]

[Water Breath]

[Flame Breath]

Each releases magic and runs toward the mantis from which the dire wolf has escaped. The other adventurers also released their magic, and with the sound of the explosions, they defeated the mantis. The mantis gets scattered into pieces. In an instant, the peaceful party venue transformed into a battlefield filled with the stench of death.

“Rearguard, keep firing your magic! It’s time for us to get into melee combat.”

“The juveniles aren’t our opponents. The juveniles aren’t our problem, but we should watch out for the adults in the mix and the big parent-like creatures in the back.”

“Ah. That’s right!”

The scissors mantis is about two meters long, and its body’s hard but thin.

It couldn’t resist the force of the axe swung by Adamantine, and she smashed its body to pieces.

“Chichichichichi.”

The next scissors mantis swung its arm scythe from behind the scissors mantis Adamantine had defeated with a sickening squeal that sounded like scratching glass. The monstrous scissors mantis’ arms, with a luster that isn’t the same living being, dully gleamed and attacked Adamantine. Its movement’s as fast as the wind.

Swinging her axe with all her might, Adamantine couldn’t avoid it and received a direct hit. However, the attack was just as Adamantine had expected.

With a kind sound, Adamantine’s magical barrier easily repelled the blow, and she counterattacked, drawing back her axe and it cuts through.

“That’s too bad. That’s not going to be enough to break through my armor!”

The Genbu Type 15 that Adamantine equip’s an older style, but it’s a magical armor full of various defensive magic and has greatly increased its defensive power. It has a higher mana consumption for magic barriers, making it a very good magical armor for Kongo, who plays the role of a tank.

[War Cry]

“OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH!”

With a fierce beast-like voice that echoes through the area, Adamantine uses her magic. [War Cry]’s magic raises one’s physical ability and gathers the hostility of less intelligent opponents to oneself through provocation by roaring.

By putting mana on the sound and shaking the air, she shakes the spirits of many scissors mantis and raises their hostility.

In other words, it’s not magic to be used on this battlefield where enemies are swirling around. The reason’s that a group of them will attack the user at once. However, Adamantine dared to take a risk and used this magic.

Dozens of scissors mantis nearby target Adamantine, turn, and gather around.

“Fewer of them are coming toward us than I expected, but I guess that’s not a bad thing.”

In this battlefield, swirling with magic and saturated with mana, the sound waves used by the vigilantes are too weak to have disappeared.

As if she had no choice, she grinned spectacularly and used her next magic in front of the scythes of the attacking mantises.
