Chapter 215 Lancelot Vs. Goblin Shaman

[Soarsie]

As soon as the fallen goblins became aware of our presence, they shouted, "Intruders!" to alert their comrades, and they lurched forward to attack. Most drew their scimitars, using [Latch On] on unsuspecting players followed by [Backstab] to attack them with an advantage.

[Latch On] was a skill that allowed the goblins to climb onto their enemies, and [Backstab] was a skill that allowed them to use their Scimitar upon successfully latching onto their target.

If these skills were successful, then the goblins could reduce a large chunk of our HP.

Lancelot was quick to his feet and threw a barrel onto the goblins, lighting it with a fire spell. It exploded upon contact with the little evil creatures.

I was more surprised at the fact that Lancelot could use spells than the huge fire he created. It looked like he could use both sword and magic.

His Chosen One class, coupled with his BUG player's status, made him like the HERO at this point.

"Throw the barrels!" Lancelot instructed when the goblins were caught surprised at the sudden attacks.

The other did what he said, and we watched the camp and the goblins burn before our eyes.

"Gorio, go and release the captive!" Lancelot ordered to the stumbling man.

"H-huh?" Gorio looked at Lancelot like the latter had grown horns.

Lancelot snapped, "Use your fucking skill to pick the lock of that damn cage and save that man over there! He might be important for the quest!"

"R-right." Gorio trotted to the cage, stumbled on his own leg, and hugged the mud face first.

I could only shake my head. How many times must he stumble in one day?

I would never hear the answer when the fallen goblin that was supposed to be charred severely into charcoal rose from the dead and attacked the passing Gorio.

It only took one second for the Scimitar to hit his ankle. Gorio fell again, and his body didn't even hit the ground when hordes of goblins rose from the dead and latched onto him with Scimitar tearing off his flesh.

"Agh!" Gina shrieked. Instead of helping the poor man, she looked away and hid behind Felix, shaken at Gorio's brutal fate to the point of forgetting that she was a White Mage.

She couldn't heal him that was for sure. Not when her healing spell could only return like +50 HP before it went into cooldown. By that time, Gorio was long dead. But at least she tried.

"D-damn, what are they?" Felix asked, repressing the shaking of his voice as he stepped back when the goblins rose from the ashes.

It was the perfect time to hide in my shadows when the goblins' number only increased as seconds ticked by, and so I did.

"Fucking coward!"

I heard Mikaela shout in my direction. Her shrill voice was mixed with a trembling cry.

In that instant, I was ready to bolt. The idea of waiting for a month for the next exam was a better prospect than this.

Until Lancelot shouted again, "Aim for the Shaman! She's the one controlling them!"

My attention flickered to the shaman who was resurrecting her fallen comrades while shouting out commands.

The shaman goblin charged forward when Lancelot noticed her, wielding a twisted staff adorned with feathers and bones. With a guttural cry, it chanted an incantation that sent waves of dark energy toward the approaching man.

Lancelot was quick on his feet, dodging the attack and retaliating with a powerful fire from his outstretched hand.

The fallen shaman gave a bone-chilling smile as she used the fallen goblins around her as protection, like a meat shield.

Still, the impact of the fire spell sent the goblin stumbled back, its staff crackling with residual flames.

Undeterred, the shaman goblin raised its staff once more and summoned a horde of spectral spiders to swarm Lancelot. With a fierce swing of his sword, Lancelot hacked through the illusions and cleaved the staff in two.

The goblin shrieked in anger and desperation, calling upon its dark magic to unleash a blast of shadowy tendrils toward him as a final struggle for her dear life.

But Lancelot was ready, channeling his own magical energy into a protective barrier that deflected the attack. With a final flourish of his sword, he lunged forward and delivered a fatal blow to the shaman goblin, ending the fight in a burst of blood and sparks.

I whistled in admiration. I got to admit, he was really cool, especially since he handled the shaman alone.

After the shaman's death, the remaining goblins panicked and tried to run away. The goblins surrounding the others scurried in every direction, giving them momentary relief.

At that moment, I pulled out from the shadows, and a loud smack rattled my brain. I saw burned spots, and the ringing in my head made me close my eyes.

When I recovered, Mikaela's angry face was the first thing I saw.

"You bitch! You should just die!"

I slapped her with all my might. The sting numbed my hand. Mikaela fell to the ground, stunned. She put a hand on her injured cheek and murdered me with her glares.

"You dare?! You dare to slap me when you're not even doing anything in this group!"

"Why wouldn't I dare?" I said, licking the blood off my lips. "It's not like you have contributed either. It's not you who killed the shaman. What are you so mad about?"

'We should . . . kill her . . .' Vexana whispered in my ears. "Rot her . . ."

"I was fending off the goblins!" she defended.

"With your weak spells?" I stifled a mocking laugh. "How many goblins have you killed again?"

I snorted when she couldn't reply.

"What are you guys doing?"

All our attention went to the newly arrived Rodrick and his gang.

"I can't believe that you have taken fifteen minutes just to kill these goblins," Edgar said, shaking his head in disappointment. "Thanks to you, I lost one thousand gil! Who's going to pay that, huh?"

Gina took solace behind Lancelot's back while Mikaela rose to her feet and shut her mouth.

Rodrick faced Lancelot in a stare-off contest before he grinned in a wicked way.

"Fifteen minutes. That's rather long for a man claiming goblins to be easy work."

Lancelot's face wasn't perturbed the slightest until he broke into a strangely calm smile. "Did your ego hurt that bad when I said that you mostly killed goblins when you were just a noob? Sorry, my bad. If I knew that you couldn't move on from that, I wouldn't have wounded your pride."
