Chapter 60 - Vacation
Qiao Jing’s question surprised Qiao Yue. Did he detect something?
“I’ll study on my own… How about it?”
Qiao Yue really didn’t want to spend more time listening to others teach her what she already knew. She would rather spend that time sleeping.
“Yo! Study by yourself? If you’re that good, how did you get only 60 marks and embarrass our family?” Qiao Xin then glanced at Qiao Yue with ridicule.
Qiao Yue didn’t want to talk to her, so she looked only at Qiao Jing.
Their eyes met for a moment before Qiao Jing broke the eye contact.
“You do as you see fit.”
Hearing Qiao Jing’s words, Qiao Xin’s face darkened, and she turned to leave without a word.
Qiao Ying watched Qiao Xin as she left and then turned to Qiao Jing with a troubled expression.
“Go!” Qiao Jing said lightly.
After Qiao Xin and Qiao Ying left, only Qiao Yue and the other two remained in the study.
Through the open door, one could tell how angry Qiao Xin was, and even hear the angry scolding in her heart.
Qiao Jing glanced at the two of them and flipped through the documents he had brought back from the office. “Anything else?”
Qiao Yu looked at Qiao Yue, but she didn’t look back. “No.”
After Qiao Yu left, Qiao Yue looked at Qiao Jing thoughtfully. She was now a little curious about what Qiao Jing had found out about her.
“Is there anything else?” Qiao Jing looked up from the pile of documents.
“No, I just wanted to ask about the old master.”
Qiao Yue had always referred to the head of Qiao family as old master instead of grandfather. The reason was that she hadn’t seen him since she arrived at the Qiao residence, let alone received the approval from the old master. It was better to keep her distance.
“Grandpa is your maternal grandfather,” Qiao Jing reminded Qiao Yue.
Qiao Yue chuckled and said, “After all, we haven’t met yet. It’s not good to address him so intimately.”
Qiao Jing frowned in disagreement when he heard this but didn’t say more.
Qiao Jing felt that it was inappropriate that Qiao Yue hadn’t met Grandpa since he came back to the Qiao residence, so he said, “Grandpa’s condition hasn’t been too good lately. He’s often in a state of deep sleep. I’ll take you to see him when you’re off school.”
Qiao Yue nodded. Just as she was about to leave, Qiao Jing continued, “I won’t interfere if you want to study on your own, but if your results don’t improve, I’ll make the arrangements.”
Ever since Qiao Xuan moved out, Qiao Jing had been in charge of all matters in the family, including the children’s education. For example, Qiao Jing had hired private tutors to help Qiao Xin and Qiao Yu with their worse subjects.
Qiao Yue replied with an “okay” and quickly left the study. She went back to her room and turned on her laptop.
YQ hadn’t send through many documents, but Qiao Yue still spent half an hour reading them carefully. The documents described most of her mother’s life but there was a small part where the information was very vague. That was the one year when her mother was still living with the Qiao’s and the two years after she left. After that, Qiao Yue was born, and her mother took her to a remote village. She knew what happened after that.
What puzzled Qiao Yue the most was her father. There was no information about her father at all in the findings. It was as if she was born out of thin air.
And during that vague period, her mother had also disappeared without a trace, just like her father.
So, someone had deliberately erased their information.
Qiao Yue couldn’t figure out what secrets her parents had, but since it was something that needed to be hidden, the investigation couldn’t be delegated to others. She had to investigate herself.
She dialed Chu Jia’s phone. It was a little noisy on the other end, and Qiao Yue frowned.
“What are you guys doing?” Qiao Yue asked.
Sine Chu Jia and the rest of the team were injured, and godfather was in B-County, Qiao Yue decided to give them a vacation. It seemed like they were having fun now.
“Boss, we’re playing rock-paper-scissors! Are you coming? Stone can pick you up.”
Qiao Yue felt like she could smell the alcohol on Chu Jia and the rest through her phone.
“Your injuries healed pretty quickly. You’re already drinking? If everyone’s so free now, go back to the organization and work!” Qiao Yue teased.
“Boss, you are a demon! Don’t be like this!”
Qiao Yue heard Stone’s wailing through the phone.
“Are you serious? Boss!” Chu Jia asked, her voice trembling.
“I’ll study on my own… How about it?”
