Chapter 29.1 – The Gossipmongers of Hanlin (1)

The young man who suddenly appeared was quite incapable of taking a hint, but Lu Qipei and Qi Yang finally went with him. The reason was very simple; Liu Chen didn’t come for an outing alone today – he came together with several colleagues from Hanlin Academy.

Lu Qipei was not interested in dealing with her colleagues during her break. But this cannot-read-the-room Liu Chen had already seen her and gave an invitation, so there wasn’t much room for her to refuse. After all, he situation in Hanlin Academy had just improved, and she didn’t want to offend people right now just because of some trivial things.

Plus, weren’t they unable to find an empty spot after all?

Lu Qipei said to Qi Yang with a small apology, “It’s getting late, we also need a place to eat.”

Qi Yang didn’t mind. She was also very concerned about how Lu Qipei was doing in Hanlin Academy, so it was a good time to go and see her get along with her colleagues. So they did not refuse, and the three of them went back to the open space that Liu Chen and the others occupied.

After both groups greeted each other, Lu Qipei looked around and saw that there wasn’t anyone difficult to deal with there, so she felt a little relieved. Then again, Liu Chen was a newbie in Hanlin Academy. Other than some good-natured people, who would give him face and come to this gathering?

They were all the rare nice people in Hanlin Academy, and no one would embarrass Lui Qipei. Even after tactlessly interrupting their date, these people were still a bit shy when they saw Qi Yang.

However, most of them were much older than Compiler Lu. This little uneasiness was soon forgotten, and they warmly greeted the young unmarried couple again.

Someone asked curiously, “Compiler Lu is so young, I didn’t expect that you’ve already decided to settle down.”

Lu Qipei smiled a little shyly. She looked at Qi Yang and thoughtfully replied, “It was just decided recently.”

It was decided recently, wasn’t it? Half an hour earlier, she didn’t even know that she had a fiancée! However, she didn’t want to refute Qi Yang’s words.

The only thing she was worried about was that there were too many variables in her life. The wedding bestowal after Qionglin banquet was gone, when would she finally be able to enter the Emperor’s sight?

Someone else next to her picked up the conversation and jokingly said, “That’s a pity. I saw that Compiler Lu is a talented person, and I wanted to introduce my sister to you. Now that Compiler Lu has a beautiful lady by his side, it seems that I’ve missed the opportunity.”

Of course, this was just a joke. After all, Lu Qipei worked on Hanlin Academy every day, but no one ever said that to her. It was clearly a joke, but the moment she heard that, she couldn’t help but turn back and look at Qi Yang nervously.

Qi Yang just smiled calmly. Obviously, Her Royal Highness The Princess wasn’t worried that someone would snatch her Prince Consort. What’s more, with how dense Lu Qipei was, even if someone really introduced a girl to her, she would probably keep her at a distance. The girl would probably not be able to even take the first step and just give up.

As for blind matchmaking, it was even more impossible. Who told her to fancy a princess’s Prince Consort who was actually a woman in disguise!

However, seeing Lu Qipei look back nervously, everyone laughed. At this time, someone suddenly said, “There were rumors in Hanlin Academy a few days ago that Princess Qi Yang’s carriage had stopped outside the academy for several days, waiting for Compiler Lu. I thought there was going to be a Prince Consort in Hanlin Academy, but now it seems that it was just a rumor.”

Hearing this, Qi Yang smiled first before Lu Qipei could respond. Many people saw her sudden smile, although they didn’t understand what she was smiling about.

Of course, Her Royal Highness The Princess had no intention to explain nor identify herself.

This “inexplicable” smile eventually broke the original conversation, making people realize that it was not appropriate to make such a joke in front of someone’s fiancée. Soon, someone made a light chuckle and changed the subject away from Lu Qipei.

Some people looked at each other in dismay, wondering why the topic fell on other people’s private affairs. That guy even dared to gossip about the princess!

But regardless of what her colleagues were thinking, Lu Qipei was relieved to get out of the teasing. She turned around and smiled apologetically at Qi Yang, then instructed the servants to take out the food they had brought and arrange them on the floor.

It was not a very pleasant lunch because there were many unrelated people around, but it wasn’t too bad because those impudent colleagues finally stopped bothering the young couple.

This wasn’t the first time Lu Qipei ate with Qi Yang, but perhaps because the change in her mindset and their relationship, she became a lot more affectionate this time. Although helping serve the dishes was a small matter, she still enjoyed doing it. Qi Yang also accepted all the dishes Lu Qipei picked for her – there was nothing difficult about this, because all the dishes Lu Qipei picked for her was her favorite.

Obviously, the food was prepared based on both their preferences. Why could Lu Qipei so accurately find the ones Qi Yang liked? Did she secretly pay attention to her before?

This was the most reasonable guess, and it made Qi Yang feel happy. Even the previous bit of unhappiness disappeared.

The couple didn’t interact with each other too much, but anyone with eyes could see that they got along with each other very well…

Liu Chen finally withdrew his gaze and began gossiping with the colleagues in front of him.
