Chapter 43.1 – We Share The Same Interests (1)

Lu Qipei didn’t know what she said wrongly. This time, she upset the Emperor again and was directly kicked out from Xuanshi Hall.

As she stepped out of the palace gate beneath the setting sun, she looked back and vaguely saw the corner of Xuanshi Hall’s majestic roof. She looked at the palace and sighed deeply, her brows frowned. Between this life and the last one, she had met His Majesty more than a few times. He obviously appreciated her a lot back then, so why was he looking down on her again and again this time!?

As expected, the only one who always treated her the same in this world was Qi Yang – even Qi Bo had changed.

Thinking of it this way, Lu Qipei didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, and she finally left the palace with doubts in her heart. Right now it was too early for her next shift, so she didn’t go back to Hanlin Academy, and instead walked home directly, reflecting on herself as she walked.

It was dark by the time Lu Qipei arrived home. To her surprise, Qi Bo grabbed her as soon as she stepped inside, hurriedly saying, “Young Master, why are you only back now!?”

Lu Qipei was stunned; it was rare to see Qi Bo so worried, “What’s the matter? Did something happen?”

Qi Bo dragged her to the front hall and said as they walked, “Young Master came back too late. A messenger came from the palace half an hour ago, and he’s been waiting in the front hall for a long time. If you didn’t come back just now, I really wouldn’t know what to do.”

Even so, Lu Qipei clearly didn’t see any panic in Qi Bo’s eyes – they were clear, and he was somewhat excited. However, she didn’t have the time to analyze it further right now. Qi Bo pulled her to the front hall, and her heart was beating like a drum. This royal decree came unexpectedly, but from Qi Bo’s attitude, it shouldn’t be something bad.

If that was the case, then what did the Emperor want this time?

The answer seemed to be coming to her, but Lu Qipei who had been reflecting on herself all the way here was too excited and things seemed somewhat unreal to her.

Fortunately, that feeling soon disappeared because she saw Zhang Jiang in the front hall. The person in charge of Xuanshi Hall came to deliver the decree personally – this was a treatment that she didn’t get as the number one scholar in her previous life. She immediately felt a little flattered.

Zhang Jiang was still smiling, and when he saw her, he said, “Lord Lu is finally back. You’ve kept me waiting.”

Lu Qipei smiled embarrassedly and didn’t explain herself further. When she went home from the royal palace, Zhang Jian also left towards the Lu Mansion to deliver the decree; they naturally went through the same road. She was wearing an official’s robe, and she didn’t believe that Zhang Jian didn’t see her. He just didn’t call out to her because it was impossible to stop and announce the decree in the streets. But even after he arrived at the Lu Mansion, he would rather sit and wait in the front hall than let Qi Bo send someone to pick her up…

Lu Qipei understood something in a trance – Zhang Jian represented the Emperor’s attitude; it was the Emperor that was intentionally harassing her!

Of course, Lu Qipei wasn’t stupid enough to point it out. After apologizing to Zhang Jian, she instructed Qi Bo to prepare an incense table1 to receive the decree. Qi Bo obviously understood the customary rules – he already had them prepared while waiting for Lu Qipei, and they were soon ready.

Everyone in the mansion knelt in front of the incense table to receive the decree. Zhang Jian didn’t deliberately make things difficult; he unfurled the decree and read it out rhythmically.

Unsurprisingly, this was a decree to bestow the princess’s hand in marriage. It contained a lot of praises for the couple, as if saying that they were a match made in heaven. The Emperor’s nitpicky and critical attitude towards Lu Qipei could not be seen at all, making her doubt her own ears.

When Zhang Jiang finished reading the royal decree, Lu Qipei said happily, “This Minister has received the decree. I thank His Majesty for his grace.”

After receiving the royal decree, she immediately got up, and the previously solemn atmosphere immediately disappeared. Zhang Jiang smiled and congratulated her, “The royal decree has been issued, Lord Lu’s wish has finally been fulfilled. The next time I see you, you will be called the Prince Consort.”

This wasn’t the first time she had been called the Prince Consort. A lot of people have called her that in her previous life, but it was different this time. Perhaps the mood had changed. Even though those two words came from the mouth of a middle-aged palace attendant, there was still a very sweet feeling in her heart.

She couldn’t help but raise the corners of her lips, and her eyes were shining. Anyone who saw her right now would be able to tell that she was happy.

Zhang Jiang looked at the youth who was getting more and more in high spirits, and seemed to finally understand the little princess’s attachment to the person in front of him. The youth in front of him was so good-looking and talented; it was no wonder that the insightful Her Royal Highness The Princess fell in love with her.

After exchanging a few polite words with Zhang Jian, Lu Qipei took the small pouch that Qi Bo passed her and secretly stuffed it into his hand, then asked, “When I left, I saw that His Majesty’s expression looked very displeased, and I thought that it would be hard to get the marriage bestowal. This… I wonder why His Majesty changed his mind?”

Zhang Jian smiled when he heard that. This Compiler Lu was very talented, but she couldn’t understand a parent’s heart. Today in the hall, she poked the Emperor’s heart as soon as she opened her mouth. It would be strange if the Emperor gave her a good look!

Fortunately, Princess Qi Yang was still in Xuanshi Hall. After Lu Qipei left, she coaxed him a lot until he looked better. As for this royal decree, Zhang Jian knew that it would be issued sooner or later.

However, Zhang Jiang didn’t dare to talk about the Emperor’s awkward feelings about marrying off his daughter. He squeezed the money pouch that Lu Qipei gave him – it was light and thin, and didn’t weight much. It should’ve been stuffed with silver banknotes. He wasn’t greedy for this small amount of money, but he was willing to sell a favor to Princess Qi Yang’s Prince Consort, so he said, “His Majesty isn’t displeased with Lord Lu, but he cherishes Princess Qi Yang very much.”

Zhang Jian only left this sentence and wouldn’t say anything else, and he wouldn’t let the Lu family entertain him. He hurried back to the palace amidst the night’s darkness.
