Chapter 44.2 – You’re Mine (2)

The usually gentle and elegant young man looked awkward and timid – he even stumbled when he ran away. Lu Qipei suddenly remembered the conversation between the two minor officials that day and became vigilant, but at the same time she wasn’t sure how to feel for a while.

Seeing that she had been staring outside the room, the colleague next to her approached and asked, “Everyone has been dispersed by the Academy head, what is Compiler looking at?”

Their working space were next to each other, and had a pretty good relationship, so Lu Qipei casually said, “I just saw Editor Liu outside. I heard that he had taken a long leave, why did he come back after just a few days? Looking at him… I don’t think his body has healed yet.”

Perhaps because he had heard some news about him, when Liu Chen was mentioned, a trace of contempt appeared on his face. However, he did not have any grudges against him, and he never talked about him in front of Lu Qipei.

Hearing those words, he said, “Compiler is getting married, maybe that’s why you didn’t have time to care about other matters. Editor Liu got lucky – how long had he been in Hanlin Academy? He’s already getting transferred to the Ministry of Rites. Him coming back today should be for the handover.”

Lu Qipei was slightly surprised to hear this, and she immediately asked, “What is Editor Liu’s family background? He was transferred to the Ministry of Rites?”

This colleague was obviously a gossipmonger, and was familiar with the family background of everyone in Hanlin Academy. Hearing this, he said, “His family is in the capital, but it’s just a small rich family. He only has one uncle who is a sixth-grade official, and couldn’t have helped him.”

Many people in Hanlin Academy were also surprised by Liu Chen’s transfer. After all, the Ministry of Rites was different from Hanlin Academy. The Six Ministries were places that did practical matters, and it was easier to accumulate achievements to get a promotion.

They weren’t like Hanlin Academy; aside from having a bunch of literati who worked with books and history, it was also a place for new scholars from imperial exams to get experience. It was good if they could get ahead, but if not, then it was simply wasting time.

Lu Qipei fell into thought after hearing this. She knew how protective Qi Yang was; she would not give up on her revenge just because she found out that Liu Chen had already suffered. So this sudden transfer to the Ministry of Rites seemed to be her doing.

When he goes to the Ministry of Rites, there would probably won’t be anything good waiting for him, right?

This question was answered when she left Hanlin Academy after her shift and saw the familiar carriage outside.

Qi Yang finally found a chance to leave the palace. When she saw her Prince Consort full of smiles, the two of them smiled at each other. She poured a cup of tea for Lu Qipei, and casually said, “I asked someone to arrange a good position for him. He would be a royal emissary tasked with delivering the Emperor’s royal decrees, and he would be treated with respect wherever he goes. After the royal decree is delivered, it is also customary to receive a red envelope.”

At first glance, it really sounded like a good position, but why did Lu Qipei find it hard to believe?

Qi Yang also smiled when she saw her like this, but didn’t explain anything. She only gave her a wink to make her understand.

Lu Qipei was stunned by her playful look. When she regained her senses, she became a little embarrassed, so she lowered her head and drank a sip of tea to hide it.

After that sip of tea, she also came to understand – the contents of a royal decree weren’t always nice. If there were promotions, there were also demotions. There were rewards, but there were also punishments. Plus, the world was so big. It wasn’t always easy to travel from the capital to other places. It might take half a year to go to a remote place and return!

Tsk, thinking about it this way, this Liu Chen didn’t have a bright future at all!

Of course, Lu Qipei was not so kind as to sympathize with someone who tried to hurt her. Not to mention that he clearly looked resentful when he looked at her today. Whether it was because of jealousy or because that thing that he encountered, he was a hidden danger to her.

Qi Yang’s arrangement couldn’t have been better; Lu Qipei raised her eyebrows and smiled at her, “Thank you for avenging me, Your Highness.”

Her smile was as beautiful as ever, but Qi Yang didn’t want to talk to her about people who didn’t matter. She propped her chin up and looked at her without blinking, the deep fondness in her eyes almost enough to drown someone.

The atmosphere in the carriage suddenly became ambiguous, and after a single glance Lu Qipei no longer dared to look directly at her. She looked down at the tea cup in her hand, and said as if she was embarrassed, “Why are you looking at me like this, Your Highness?”

Qi Yang answered it matter-of-factly, “Of course it’s because you look good.”

Lu Qipei did not say anything, but her ears were slowly turning red.

When Qi Yang saw it, her eyebrows curved up, “And such a good-looking person is now mine.”

As soon as those words were said, their hearts turned a little hot. Inexplicable emotions surged in their hearts, almost making them cry.

Lu Qipei thought of her regrets from her previous life, and Qi Yang also thought of what she had let slip away in her previous life. Both of them thought that they were the only one who still had this other memory – another thing that they regret, but it was still a very important memory…

It was the beginning of their love!

Qi Yang turned her head slightly, afraid that Lu Qipei would see the mistiness that suddenly appeared in her eyes. But the latter did not raise her head – what was hidden in those downcast eyes was a sense of loss, and relief.

There was a moment of silence in the carriage, and they both realized that the atmosphere was weird.

Lu Qipei finally put down her tea cup and raised her eyes. There was no longer any strange look in her eyes; only gentleness remained. She reached out her hand and gently stroked Qi Yang’s cheek as she pledged, “Un. I am yours now.”
