Chapter 45.1 – Lovesick Before Even Parting (1)

Today, Qi Yang came to see Lu Qipei. Of course, she didn’t just come to see her; she also had something to say to Lu Qipei.

“The marriage has been decreed. I’m afraid it will be difficult for us to meet for a while.” Qi Yang squeezed Lu Qipei’s hand and said that with some melancholy.

Lu Qipei was slightly stunned when she heard that, but she immediately realized – after the marriage proposal, unwed couples were not allowed to meet. This had always been the tradition. When she looked back to her previous life, the two of them did not se each other for a long time after she was granted her hand in marriage. But back then, she had been too worried thinking about how Lu Qicheng had not returned yet – she had been hoping that the marriage would be held later, so her identity would not be exposed.

Now that she thought about it, it had been really ridiculous. Inexplicably, some sadness came over her.

The Qi Yang in her previous life had treated her with sincerity, but she dragged her to the mud. Even until the moment before she was poisoned to death, she had not realized what it would mean for Qi Yang to have Lu Qicheng replace her!

Lu Qipei’s thoughts drifted away for a while, and her gaze at Qi Yang became complicated.

Qi Yang was surprised by her reaction. She raised her hand and shook it in front of her, asking, “What are you thinking? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Suddenly, Lu Qipei took her into her arms and buried her head in Qi Yang’s neck. Her excessive emotions were temporarily restrained as she lightly rubbed on her, “I’m thinking about how hard it would be to endure the days without being able to see you for a long time.”

Qi Yang had seen Lu Qipei being clingier and gentler, but that was when she was drunk. Seeing her take the initiative to be this close to her when she was sober, it would be wrong to say that Qi Yang wasn’t moved.

Qi Yang hugged her back, and her heart that was feeling a bit of emptiness was suddenly filled. She even made a promise that she shouldn’t have given, “Don’t be like this, I also can’t bear to be apart from you. At worst, I’ll just sneak out of the palace.”

Preparing a wedding ceremony wasn’t something that can be done quickly; just preparing the Six Rites alone could take several months. And this was still considered fast; some people have to spend one to two years to finally bring the bride home after the engagement. Obviously, marrying a princess would not be easy.

Thankfully, thanks to the royal family’s power, the two didn’t need to worry about the Six Rites’ preparation. The Ministry of Rites would get everything prepared.

Lu Qipei couldn’t help but laugh after hearing Qiyang’s promise, and most of her previous melancholy instantly disappeared. She looked up at Qi Yang, her lips curved and her eyes clear as she said, “Your Highness is really… If His Majesty found out, I’m afraid he’ll become even more upset.”

The two youths had eventually figured out the Emperor’s thoughts and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. At the same time, their hearts were moved – Qi Yang was not the Emperor’s only child, and they had all shared his love. But without a doubt, Qi Yang was the one that he favored the most.

Even the Crown Prince might have developed some rift with the Emperor due to court affairs; only Qi Yang had always remained on the Emperor’s heart.

The Emperor purely marrying off his daughter, so he was particularly critical and nitpicky with his son-in-law. Both of their meetings ended up in bad terms and he even bullied her.

Lu Qipei was moved even further; Qi Yang only thought more and more about her these days. There were all kinds of personal reasons behind it that Qi Yang didn’t plan to tell Lu Qipei in this life. “Are you afraid that Royal Father would be unhappy, so you don’t want me to go out and meet you?”

The little princess asked indifferently, but Lu Qipei suddenly felt a strong sense of crisis in her heart. Her strong desire to stay alive made her deny it quickly, “Of course not, I was just saying that. How can His Majesty’s happiness be more important compared to Your Highness!?”

Hearing this, Qi Yang stroked the hair on Lu Qipei’s forehead with satisfaction. She felt that her Prince Consort in this life was much more interesting than in her previous life.

That said, was it really necessary to make the Emperor upset? Once Qi Yang heard the satisfactory answer, she smiled and said, “Alright, I’m just teasing you. Royal Father didn’t place any restrictions on me, so how could there be any trouble?”

Lu Qipei looked at her and obediently stayed quiet.

Qi Yang felt a bit itchy when she saw her cute and soft appearance, and wanted to pull her over to hug her. But right now they weren’t married yet, and these actions were out of bounds for now.

For just a moment, Her Royal Highness The Princess wanted to exchange the tea in the table with wine and watch Lu Qipei get drunk again. But after all, it was just a fleeting thought, and she quickly get rid of that dangerous idea.

While her mind was thinking of those things, Qi Yang still put up a serious façade on her face. “Rong State’s envoys have been said to be coming to the capital, and now the date has been set. In half a month, there will be a banquet in the palace. We can see each other there too.

Actually, princesses would not attend the palace banquet for receiving foreign envoys, but she inexplicably concerned about the sudden arrival of Rong State’s envoy, so she thought about asking the Crown Prince to take her there with him.

Lu Qipei’s situation was different; of course, with just her sixth-rank official position, she wasn’t qualified to attend the banquet. But her identity as the future Prince Consort meant she was entitled to enter Xuande Hall. And if there was no incident, a decree granting her an official position should soon be made.

Lu Qipei nodded after she heard this, but her mind was wandering. She recalled the previous life – there were no envoys and no political marriages. News of Rong State’s establishment only circulated in the capital for a short while, then whether the two countries would fight or not did not matter. After all, General Ji’s defense of the border had never let anyone down.

How come there were so many changes in this do-over?
