Chapter 84.1 – Wrap It For Takeout

In the end, Nanping went back without any success. Qi Yang casually threw the stack of so-called evidence on the desk without even looking at them.

Lu Qipei picked up her cup and took another sip, shaking her head with a smile. “If this was really my weakness, how could I not cover it up closely? How would I let anyone who tried investigating find out about it? If King Qi and King Wei have the same thing in mind, they must have something similar in their hands.”

But King Chu was the one who was the most impatient, and he came to their doors so blatantly, so it was no wonder that they took care of him first.

As she talked, she realized that her hand was empty. When she looked to the side, she saw Qi Yang angrily rushing at her, “I just made tea casually and didn’t check what time it is. You keep drinking it non-stop, do you not want to sleep tonight!?”

Lu Qipei blinked and leaned over towards Qi Yang, slightly pulling at her sleeves. She had a pure and cute smile on her face, “Of course I have to finish the tea that Ah Ning made, I can’t waste Ah Ning’s hard work, right?”

Qi Yang raised her eyebrows when she heard that, and directly put the teapot in front of Lu Qipei.

Lu Qipei froze for a moment, but the smile on her face did not change, just adding some feelings of guilt.

Qi Yang snorted softly and pulled Lu Qipei back to their room. As they walked, she said, “Alright, we’ve wasted the whole night talking nonsense with Nanping. But after this incident, there should be no one who would say anything about Lu Sheng again.”

It’s true that no one would say anything, or to be more precise, no one would dare to say anything…

Nanping visiting Qi Yang’s princess mansion in the middle of the night could not be hidden from anyone who actually cared. However, her actions were useless, and she urged Vice Minister Lu to speed up the investigation instead.

The case of the Qingzhou governor, who had originally been detained in the capital for half a month without much progress, was quickly investigated and put to trial within the next few days. Then, the case was quickly closed without giving anyone else time to intervene.

Because the matter involved a prince, the Head Minister of the Court of Judicial Review personally presented the report to the Emperor at another big court meeting. After seeing it, the Emperor went into a rage, and even went so far as to strip King Chu of his title, directly demoting him to a commoner!

The few princes in the court were all scared to death, but the main reason was still in the case’s report. The Court of Judicial Review was very ruthless this time. Not only did they find out about the collusion between the governor of Qingzhou and King Chu, but they also uncovered another crime in the process.

Last year, the governor of Qingzhou intercepted the tribute that should’ve been sent to the Emperor, then gave it to King Chu to please him.

It wasn’t clear whether King Chu was stupid or blind, he actually took the tribute and put it on display on his residence!

Withholding tribute was not a small sin. As a subject and as a son, King Chu took what belonged to his father without permission. No Emperor would be able to tolerate it.

Fortunately, Lu Qipei didn’t completely cut off their path. Otherwise, they might’ve been charged with having treasonous thoughts, and King Chu would have to be worried for his life.

Once this matter came out, who would dare to treat Qi Yang’s prince consort like someone easy to bully?

When King Qi and the others returned to their mansions, they even called their concubines and carefully sorted through all the utensils at home. Those from unclear sources or that were too excessive were all destroyed.

And that wasn’t enough. Looking back at the cause behind King Chu’s fall, they hurriedly destroyed all those so-called ‘weaknesses’ so they would not accidentally touch them and get into trouble.

For a while after, the remaining princes all settled down quite a bit. The court became calm for a while, making His Highness The Crown Prince, who was watching from the sidelines, heave a sigh of relief. His tense heartstrings finally relaxed a little.

Lu Qipei’s actions made the kings tremble with fear, but she just continued her daily life as if she didn’t realize anything. But in the past two days, she was feeling a little down. She was no longer as happy as when she had just defeated King Chu.

“Ah Ning, are you really leaving? Aren’t you reluctant to part from me?” Lu Qipei tugged at the corner of Qi Yang’s clothes, looking pitifully at her.

Qi Yang stood in front of the room, watching Zhi Ting directing people to pack their bags. Hearing those words, she turned back and comforted her with a smile. “I’m only going there for a few days. Besides, Huguo temple is not far from the capital. If you miss me, you can hurry there over and see me in just one or two hours.”

As she had told the kings before, the Emperor’s birthday was approaching, and she had to go to Huguo temple to pray and bring a bodhisattva statue back. To show her filial piety and sincerity, Qi Yang would stay at the temple for a few days this time, that’s why Zhi Ting and the others were packing up.

As a couple deep in love, Lu Qipei was very reluctant to be separated from her wife. “You know how long I have to work every day, and I will have to go there again the next day. How can I have the time to see you? What if I ask the Head Minister for a few days of leave, so I can stay with you at Huguo temple? If His Majesty knew that we went to pray and bring back the bodhisattva together as husband and wife, he might be happier.”

When she said that, she even seemed to have convinced her own self, and her dimmed starry eyes turned bright again. She looked at Qi Yang with burning eyes, as if she was waiting for the latter’s approval or praise.

Qi Yang was so dumbfounded by her gaze that she raised her hand to cover her eyes, so her heart would not go soft from her prince consort’s eyes. “Don’t cause trouble. If you leave your post without permission, Royal Father would not be happy when he finds out.”

Lu Qipei talked to her for a long time, but failed to persuade the princess. She could only watch as Zhi Ting emptied half of the bedroom, and her heart also felt empty.

When she went to bed at night, thinking that she would not see Qi Yang for many days, Lu Qipei was unwilling. This time, there was no need for Qi Yang to seduce her. She kept messing with the latter and bullied her all night, and didn’t let her go even after Qi Yang begged for mercy.
