Chapter 88.1 – The Prince Consort Looks Handsome

The sound of rain didn’t stop, and the mountain temple was deserted. Although Huguo temple usually had a lot of visitors, with the continuous heavy rain in the past few days, it also became empty.

It was rare for Lu Qipei and Qi Yang to have free time. But now, other than the fixed time for praying everyday, the rest of their days were very relaxed. Drinking tea, enjoying the rain or playing chess1, they would spend half the day in such leisure.

This afternoon, Qi Yang and Lu Qipei was sitting by the window playing chess, sitting opposite the other. Black and white pieces were intertwined on the board in front of them, filling more than half of it. Clearly, the game had been going on for a while.

Qi Yang held a black piece and pondered, hesitating for a long time.

Lu Qipei watched her with a smile, while sipping tea from the cup at her hand. She turned her eyes a little and found that the small dumpling that had been watching them had already fallen asleep on the armrest.

After going to Huguo temple, Lu Sheng had obviously gotten closer to Qi Yang, and wanted to cling to her all the time. She was very well-behaved and didn’t make any noise when she was being clingy, only looking at you with her big black eyes.

Even a heart made from stone or iron would melt.

Now that Lu Sheng had finally fallen asleep from boredom, Lu Qipei was happy. She put down the tea cup and went to pick her up, then sent her out to the maid outside as usual.

When she returned, she saw that the black piece in Qi Yang’s hand was gone. Lu Qipei quickly went to look at the chessboard, but couldn’t find the move she made after looking over twice. She had to ask, “Your Highness, did you make a move yet?”

Qi Yang just casually stirred the chess pieces in the container, shaking her head as she said, “I’m not playing with you anymore, it’s too much for my brain.”

Lu Qipei laughed and followed suit, putting away the chessboard herself. Then, she sat down next to Qi Yang and said, “If we’re not playing then we’re not playing. What should we do next?”

Qi Yang leaned over slightly, putting her head on Lu Qipei’s shoulder, and looked through the open window at the small raindrops falling outside. “This rain is never-ending. Ah Pei, tell me, while the two of us hide leisurely in Huguo temple, will the capital stay peaceful?”

Lu Qipei raised her hand and stroked her hair. “Don’t worry, Your Highness. His Majesty’s birthday is approaching. There will be no trouble in the capital.”

Qi Yang caught her hand and looked at her sideways. “You know that’s not what I’m talking about.”

It had been two days since Lu Qipei came to Huguo temple, and the two of them have been very relaxed. Of course, this leisure was not only because the situation in the capital was peaceful, but also because no one bothered them in the past two days.

This was very unusual. Ever since Lu Qipei took over the power in the Lu family, news from everywhere would be sent everyday. But right now, there had been nothing for two days. Obviously, this wasn’t something that could be explained just by the rain blocking the road.

Qi Yang never asked about the power in Lu Qipei’s hand, but Lu Qipei never avoided her when something happened. This included the trip to Hequ; she also explained what happened to Qi Yang after her return. So Qi Yang was keenly aware of the abnormality happening.

With the power that Lu Qipei gained after three years of painstaking efforts, just those few words to sound them out would not scare everyone away, right?

Her Royal Highness The Princess was somewhat worried, but Lu Qipei herself did not care. She stretched out her hand and directly took Qi Yang into her arms, rubbing against the warm and fragrant nephrite in her arms. Then she said, “It’s fine. There should be some news in the next few days.”

And just like she said, news from everywhere continued being passed to Lu Qipei before the two of them returned to the capital.

Neither Qi Yang nor Lu Qipei could imagine that a small rich family from Jiangnan had forces spread all over Liang State. This was no longer something that one family or one generation could manage; the Lu family was not just some rich family.

Lu Qipei looked over all the letters she received, then handed them over to Qi Yang without saying anything.

Qi Yang looked at them and raised her eyebrows, asking, “All of them are here to declare their loyalty. How much from the total do these letters account for?”

Lu Qipei stretched out her hand and made a gesture showing “nine”, then said, “Ninety percent. Ninety percent of the people I met in Hequ this time replied to me.” After saying that, she added, “Out of them, around seventy to eighty percent can be trusted.”

All in all, there were quite a lot of people who had sincerely pledged themselves to her. In the past three years, Lu Qipei had taken a lot of power from Qi Bo.

Now that Qi Bo knew her intentions, it might not be that he didn’t want to restrain her, but that he no longer could.

When Lu Qipei spoke, her face was calm and serious, and she only looked at Qi Yang looking somewhat proud.

Qi Yang smiled slightly, hugged her and boasted, “Ah Pei is really amazing.”
