Chapter 88.2 – The Prince Consort Looks Handsome

Two days later, the weather finally cleared up, and Qi Yang’s prayer at Huguo temple was over.

After getting up in the morning, the servants packed up their luggage, and everyone had one last vegetarian breakfast at Huguo temple before finally taking a Bodhisattva statue home. Princess Qi Yang’s carriage was escorted by a group of attendants and finally left the temple where they had stayed for a long time.

It had been half a month since they left the capital this time, but everything was fine in the princess’s mansion. The two masters came back, and a bunch of greeting letters were received.

The turmoil with King Chu was over, but everyone was still being careful. Even the contents of the letters were much more polite than before.

As soon as she returned to the capital, Qi Yang was kept busy by these trivial matters for several days, then she finally took the time to visit the Emperor and the Crown Prince. The Emperor was still as usual, quite old but still healthy, and didn’t care much about his upcoming fiftieth birthday.

On the other hand, the Crown Prince was in a good condition this time unlike usual. Although it had been raining for several days, it was after all summer, and he wouldn’t fall ill again as long as he was careful.

After visiting the two and getting the latest news about the court from the Crown Prince, Qi Yang left the palace and returned to her mansion. On the way, she met the Crown Prince’s eldest son again, who was being as polite and obedient as usual.

The next period of time was peaceful. Aside from the aftereffects of the King Chu matter, as Lu Qipei said, the Emperor’s birthday was approaching, and no one dared to make trouble right now.

Before you realized it, it was the middle of May, and the Emperor’s birthday was finally approaching.

Right now, Liang State occupied the Central Plains. It had a strong national strength with well-geared soldiers and horses, the number one country in four directions. Therefore, with the Emperor’s 50th birthday, most of the small countries around sent their envoys to the capital to congratulate.

Even Rong, which could barely be called peaceful for the last three years, also sent their envoys.

Qi Yang and Lu Qipei met the Rong envoy in their princess’s mansion. The envoy sent by Rong to Liang this time was much more polite than four years ago. Not only did they come not act aggressively, they even prepared gifts for the powerful families in the capital.

Other than the deposed King Chu, all the kings received gifts from the envoy, including the Crown Prince in the Eastern Palace. But only Qi Yang received one among the princesses.

In the past three to four years, the newly established Rong had not yet recovered from the war that happened shortly after its founding. There weren’t many good stuffs in the northern prairies, and the best thing from there were the exotic horses.

When the envoy visited this time, he gave them two fine horses, both of which were white without any blemishes. They were very beautiful. The exotic breed from the grasslands were one head taller compared to the fine horses from the Central Plains.

When the two tall horses were brought to the princess’s mansion’s stable

When the two tall horses were pulled to the stables of the princess’s mansion, the horses there subconsciously retreated a bit, not daring to compete with the two horses. It was clear that these exotic breeds were powerful.

Qi Yang and Lu Qipei were not ignorant people. Seeing this scene, they secretly frowned a little. However, this time the Rong envoy looked humble, and didn’t try any nonsense when sending gifts. After a simple visit and greetings, he left.

After they left, Qi Yang asked Lu Qipei, “Ah Pei, what do you think is the meaning behind these horses?”

Lu Qipei looked at a white horse and approached it. The exotic breed had a fierce temper, and seeing someone approach without being meek, it snorted at Lu Qipei, looking a bit fierce.

But Lu Qipei was not afraid. She stared at the two white horses for a while and said, “There’s nothing strange about these horses, it should be fine to raise them for now. As for its strength… even if all the horses that the Rong envoy brought to the capital are of this quality, so what?  Exotic breeds are rare, so it’s not like they would be everywhere all over the grasslands, right? It’s nothing to be concerned about.”

When she turned around after saying that, she saw Qi Yang looking silently at her, so she smiled helplessly. “Come on Ah Ning, don’t be too intimidated by the enemy. Rong State is there, Xie Yuan is there. Let’s just see what we can do to fight.”

Things would not be the same as they were three years ago, when they could not do anything, and didn’t even have the qualification to enter the game.

Qi Yang saw her calm expression and was comforted by her words, so she nodded slightly. Then, she immediately thought of something and frowned, asking with some worry, “Will Qi Bo contact these Rong envoys again?”

The events of that year were still fresh in her memory. Qi Bo was able to send the Rong envoys out of the capital once, but it didn’t mean he could necessarily do it again. After the incident, both the Emperor and the Crown Prince realized that Rong still had hidden forces in the capital, and they had been chasing them for the past three to four years.

But Qi Bo had been cautious, and there had been no conflict between Liang and Rong in the past three years, and Qi Bo had not made another move, so there was no opening at all.

Qi Yang was worried that Qi Bo would not be able to let go of things and try to contact the Rong envoy to plan something. If the Emperor’s men found some clues, Lu Qipei would definitely be implicated, and their good days would come to an end.

Lu Qipei shook her head and said firmly, “No, Qi Bo will not choose Xie Yuan unless it is absolutely necessary.” Then she smiled again. “Don’t worry too much. Maybe the Rong envoy just came to celebrate His Majesty’s birthday. The current Rong State could not afford the trouble.”

Qi Yang saw her confidence and was a little assured, so she didn’t say anything else. Later on, she took the time to ask some of her brothers, and found that all the gifts received by the kings were also exotic horses. Even the Crown Prince was no exception, making her completely relieved.

What Qi Yang didn’t know was that Lu Qipei came home from work one day and met the Rong envoy on the way.

The Rong envoy was still being modest and polite. When he saw Lu Qipei, he took the initiative to greet her. However, in order to avoid suspicion, they didn’t say much in public and left separately after the greeting.

But when the two passed by each other when leaving, the Rong envoy whispered to Lu Qipei’s ear, “Prince Consort looks handsome, but also a little familiar.”

Lu Qipei froze slightly, then left without looking back, as if she hadn’t heard anything. However, she understood that Xie Yuan had already noticed her actions. The Rong envoy’s appearance and those words earlier were a warning.

But a warning… if she was afraid of just a warning, why would she make a move in the first place!?

Author notes:

Lu Qipei (with an upright look): Standing firmly beside the wife without wavering… praise me please~

Qi Yang (throwing herself into her arms): Ah Pei is so good and obedient!

Lu Qipei (satisfied): What’s a warning? Can you eat it!?

Xie Yuan (pulling out his sword): I should just cut off this thing that’s giving me a headache directly!!
