Chapter 94.1 – If It Could Last Forever

Whether it was the tea or the food in the farm, they were far inferior to the ones in the princess’s mansion. Fortunately, Qi Yang and Lu Qipei weren’t so picky. After a short rest, Lu Qipei drank another cup of tea and went out to play with Lu Sheng in her arms.

Qi Yang was right. There was a large grape rack in the hamlet, with bundles of green and purple grapes hanging down from it, looking very satisfying to watch. You could smell the green grapes’ sweetness from a distance, and the purple grapes look round and plump, just the right time to be picked.

Lu Sheng’s big round eyes opened wide as she watched Lu Qipei pick a bunch of grapes from the grape rack above her head. The servants carrying water washed them, and she handed one to her. “Ah Sheng, is this grape delicious?”

Although the little dumpling was young, she had eaten grapes before. She liked the sweet and sour taste very much, which was why she wanted to come. Looking at the rack full of grapes, the little one’s eyes were already sparkling, and she definitely wouldn’t refuse the grape that Lu Qipei gave her.

She opened her mouth wide and bit on it, then wrinkled her face from the sourness, just like when she ate tanghulu last time.

Lu Qipei smiled and asked her, “Is this grape sour?”

Lu Sheng nodded affirmatively and complained to her aggrievedly, “It’s so sour.”

Qi Yang looked at the grapes, then at Lu Sheng. The purple grapes were round and plump. After being washed, they shone in the sunlight, making them look very delicious. She didn’t believe it, so she took one and tasted one herself. After biting half of it, she stuffed the other half into Lu Qipei’s mouth.

As a result, the three of them wrinkled their faces together, and Lu Qipei wondered, “The grapes sent to the mansion were all very sweet. Why are the ones I pick so sour?” She said as she looked up at the grape rack above her head.

Of course, everything sent to princess’s mansion were carefully selected. Especially for things like grapes that came in bunches, you only need to pick off one from each bunch to taste them, and it would be impossible for sour ones to be sent to the princess’s mansion.

But there would always be some bunches that had a different flavor for all kinds of reasons. Of course, the majority of them were sweet, but it was possible to pick the sour ones if you had bad luck.

Lu Qipei was obviously not very lucky. After the servants in the hamlet stumbled to explain, she consciously took two steps back and said, “It seems that my luck today is not very good. Then, why don’t Your Highness choose?”

Qi Yang wasn’t as interested in this as Lu Qipei. She casually chose a bunch, and Lu Qipei personally picked it off and had the servants was it. She gave one to Lu Sheng again, but the little child hesitated for a long time.

Seeing that, she couldn’t bear it anymore and took it back, tasting it herself.

Sure enough, the previous bunch of sour grapes was just an exception, and the bunch that Qi Yang chose was very sweet.

Lu Qipei confirmed it after tasting it, then Qi Yang and Lu Sheng ate one as well. The little dumpling finally tasted sweet grapes again, and the shadow that had appeared earlier instantly disappeared. Her eyes sparkled and she smiled so wide that you could see her teeth.

“Ah Sheng, do you want to pick a couple of bunches yourself?” Lu Qipei asked as she saw the small dumpling smiling happily.

Lu Sheng immediately turned her gaze from the grapes to Lu Qipei, her large black eyes filled with anticipation, “Is it okay?”

Naturally, it was okay. Lu Qipei smiled and picked her up, lifting her over her head up and letting her reach for the grapes by herself. The little dumpling with short arms and legs was in good spirits.

When she looked up and saw a bunch of grapes hanging down, she reached out to pick them. But her strength was too weak and her body too small. The bunch of grapes were hanging in front of her, but she couldn’t pick them easily. Instead, she stretched out her arms and hugged the whole bunch, hanging down on them.

Somehow, her appearance would remind people of a cat that stole something with its mouth. Once it bit its food, it wouldn’t let go no matter what.

Qi Yang couldn’t help but smile, then she took the scissors that a servant gave her and came forward to help cut the bunch of grapes. Lu Sheng holding the bunch of grapes look just like the child holding a fish you would see on New Year paintings1.

Of course, since she was very cute, she also looked good just holding onto grapes.

Lu Sheng didn’t know what was so funny about her actions, and she was obviously very happy about picking the grapes. She struggled to hold the whole bunch of grapes and looked at Qi Yang with sparkling eyes, saying, ‘Your Highness, grapes. You eat the sweet ones.'”

When she heard this, Qi Yang reached out and patted the child’s head, praising her, “Ah Sheng is really clever.”

It was rare for the child to get praised, so she narrowed her eyes in appreciation. Her hairy little head was rubbing against Qi Yang’s hand, like a small animal trying to gain favor in front of her master. It was really cute.

Lu Qipei, who was holding the little dumpling in her arms, remained silent for a moment. Then, she held Lu Sheng in her arms and poked her small face, asking, “Are Ah Sheng’s grapes only for Her Highness to eat, and not for Uncle?”

Lu Sheng blinked her eyes and made a cute smile, saying, ‘Uncle, eat too.'”

As she said that, she handed out the grapes she was holding tightly in her hands, looking somewhat reluctant but at the same time very generous. Her look was simply unbearable, and in the end, she could only accept the little child’s kindness with a smile.
