Chapter 94.2 – If It Could Last Forever

Before she came here, Lu Qipei said that she would pick some grapes and give them to her colleagues. However, there were a lot of people in the Court of Judicial Review, and it was obviously impossible for her to complete this arduous task by herself. She brought Lu Sheng to pick three to five bunches of grapes, and left the rest to the servants in the hamlet.

At noon, the family of three ate lunch in the hamlet. All the food they ate were produced there. Although they were not particularly rare, they were good due to the ingredients’ freshness, and it was nice to eat like that once in a while.

After the meal, the three of them rested for a while, waiting until the hottest time in midday had passed before they went out again.

Even so, Qi Yang didn’t want to go out too much and kept hiding under the shadows of the roof. “The weather’s too hot, we should’ve come two months later.”

After having a full nap at noon, Lu Sheng was in great spirits. When she heard what Qi Yang said, she said, “There would be no more grapes in two months.” She said that seriously, then she looked at the dazzling sun outside and finally took out a small fan, saying, “It won’t be hot if Ah Sheng fans you.”

The little dumpling held a small fan, one size smaller than the one in Qi Yang’s hand. With much effort, she waved them a few times at Qi Yang’s direction, but there really weren’t much wind. However, her earnest look made their hearts feel a bit warm.

Qi Yang’s gaze at her turned softer and softer until her attention was pulled away by Lu Qipei. The latter pulled Qi Yang to her right, holding Lu Sheng with her left hand, and gently shaking the folding fan with her right hand.

Lu Qipei fanned to left and to the right, taking care of both the adult and the small child, also not missing herself in the middle. “Didn’t they say that there’s a watermelon field here? It’s hot right now, why don’t we go pick one to have a taste?”

It’s rare that they get to go out, so of course they still wanted to play.

After hearing that, Lu Sheng’s eyes lit up again, full of curiosity about these new things that she had never known before. But Qi Yang did not miss that Lu Qipei was being crafty by standing in the middle, and gave her a meaningful glance. Then, she quickly took back her gaze and said, “Let’s go, let’s go. Let’s pick some watermelons, Ah Sheng.”

Lu Sheng smiled when she heard that, a pure smile that was very infectious, and easily drew others to do the same. Qi Yang did not say anything else, and went out with them.

Several servants followed them, holding umbrellas and fans, trying to make Her Royal Highness The Princess’s trip more comfortable.

Fortunately, the watermelon field was not far away, and the party arrived in less than ten minutes. From a distance, you could see vines covering the ground, with round watermelons hiding among them, their dark green stripes visible from time to time.

Lu Sheng’s curious eyes widened again, but this time they weren’t allowed to pick them by themselves – no matter how knowledgeable Lu Qipei was, there was no way she knew such a commoner knowledge like how to pick watermelons.

She pointed at two watermelons, but the old farmer watching the field told them that they were not ripe yet. In the end, she had to ask him to select two of the sweetest ones, then returned hugging Lu Sheng while the servants hugged the watermelons.

Qi Yang couldn’t help but laugh seeing Lu Qipei look so lost, and raised her hand to pinch her earlobe, saying, “Why do you look like a child?”

The real child, Lu Sheng, was still nestled in Lu Qipei’s arms. She looked at them with wide eyes, still with curiosity in her black eyes.

Lu Qipei was somewhat embarrassed by the child’s gaze, so she put her on the ground and said, “It’s too hot in this weather. Ah Sheng, you can walk on your own.”

The little dumpling nodded obediently and agreed, and casually grabbed the corner of Lu Qipei’s clothes. After thinking for a moment, she let it go and walked between Lu Qipei and Qi Yang, then held the corner of both their clothes, looking as if she felt reassured this way.

Qi Yang and Lu Qipei slowed down and walked slowly with her. When they walked together, they looked more and more like a family of three. Qi Yang temporarily felt as if she was in a trance – in this life and the previous life, wasn’t having a family with this person everything that she wanted?

Now, they were already married. Although they couldn’t have children, but they also had Lu Sheng. Everything was already the best.

If things could continue like this without any more external disturbances, she would have no more regrets.

Unfortunately, that thought only lasted as far as this walk. When the family of three returned to the hamlet with freshly picked watermelons, they saw Zhi Ting pacing anxiously at the door. As soon as she saw the three, she greeted them and said, “Your Highness, something has happened in the capital.”

Qi Yang’s relaxed expression suddenly tightened, and after exchanging a glance with Lu Qipei, she made the servant take Lu Sheng away first. After they left, the two of them stepped inside and asked as they walked, “What happened in the capital?”

Zhi Ting followed behind them, also answering as she walked, “An urgent report was sent from Mingzhou this morning. It had been raining there for several days, causing a flash flood in the mountains. They urgently needed a disaster relief assistance from the court. When they heard the news, King Wei and King Wu entered the palace, both wanting to take on the disaster relief duty. Somehow, they had a fight in front of the Emperor, and fists even started flying. Even King Wu’s head was injured.”

Qi Yang and Lu Qipei both stopped when they heard this. Qi Yang even turned around and asked in disbelief, “They fought in front of the Emperor?”

Disaster relief had always been the princes’ favorite job. Not only could they gain popularity and fame, they could also make some profits from it. Unless it was a once-in-a-century disaster whose aftermath was uncertain, such a job would naturally be fought over.

But competing was one thing, it was unwise to do it in front of the Emperor, even to the point of actually fighting…

Qi Yang was tired, feeling that her brothers were really hopeless.

Author notes:

Qi Yang (expressionless): I really want to blow up these brothers’ dog heads. Do they all have no brains!?

Lu Qipei (comforting): It’s okay, Your Highness. Their dog heads are about to be blown up by others.

Qi Yang (tired): …is this really comforting!?
