"Step forward" Ryan ordered the twenty crystal sentries. The creatures stood up and formed a line, heading towards the left door of the throne. Incredulous, Kodiak was scratching his eyes trying to understand what had just happened "What? What was that?"
Placing her hand on the druid's shoulder, Nivia sighed "He's controlling the sentries with a dwarf box." Ruri could no longer control himself and started laughing at the situation as he watched the crystal sentries march "That makes no sense Hahaha!"
The travelers kept moving forward behind the statues. Next to the main room of the lathe was a rotating staircase that led towards the lower part where the mining area of that region was located. The sound of those crystal monsters was constant and had an almost musical rhythm, they were orderly steps followed by the sound coming from the crystal joints of the creatures' bodies.
'Do these monsters have any other function?'
<They can throw a some magic, but they are not as tough as they look>
Ryan nodded, agreeing with what Nyx said.
The staircase was vast, yet the group waited for the sentries to advance first. After the stairs was a slightly more modest room, it was a small garrison of sorts, the place was intact.
"The goblins have not advanced through here" Kodiak said. Nivia was watching the room carefully "No one has passed this way, it's been a long time. The monsters must be in the next rooms". The crystal sentinels continued walking forward, crossing two rooms and an iron gate, then the creatures stopped stagnant in front of the gate. 'They are waiting for new commands' Kodiak said, turning to Ryan.
'Do you know how I tell them to open?'
<I have no idea, but if you tell them to attack, they'll work it out>
Holding the dwarves' golden box, he ordered the creatures to advance. Not knowing that ancient language was making it a bit difficult, 'I think this will do' Ryan said aloud.
The two crystal warriors in front of the door then began to punch with all the energy they possessed. Meanwhile two of the warriors in the back threw fire magic at the iron joints that formed the door, even with the excess sound of footsteps and iron being attacked, you could still tell there was company on the other side of the room.
"Did you guys hear that?" Ruri said, the shaman's hands were already glowing in a red color, she was prepared to conjure spells as fast as she could. Damian and Kodiak nodded, everyone was in attack position. On the other side of the wall there was the sound of rapid footsteps, it was as if several creatures were running across the stone floor of that area.
*DUUUUUMMM* The door fell to the ground and the sentries advanced, below the iron door a pool of blood had formed. The bodies of several goblins were being crushed by the weight of the crystal sentries, those monsters couldn't even scream in pain as the impact of the door was enough to kill those creatures. The green blood of the goblins was dripping down the stone floor of that area, as more creatures approached to attack the sentinels.
The group led by Kodiak was two rooms behind the sentinels. Advancing carefully, they reached the next room. "Books" Nivia said, running to a workbench, "They're in dwarven!" The ice mage was excited, it was the first time she had changed her neutral tone of voice. Going over to one of the shelves full of production books and mining company documents, Ryan was a little excited.
But among those books, one specific one captured his attention. 'There's no fucking way' raising his arm, he pulled out an orange leather book. Among the dozens of books and paper files, there was one book that he could read. On the side and cover of the book was written 'Dictionary' in a really old Elven dialect.
In the center of the cover was an engraving of a dwarven rune. 'This will come in handy' so he put the book away. 'Ryan, come here' Nivia called out, she was flipping through a gigantic black leather book with gold detailing. The book had several drawings of dwarven constructions, including the crystal sentinels. "It looks like some sort of engineering manual" She said as she forced her eyes open, she was trying to understand what was written, but it was in vain.
The succubus Nyx approached the book, and frowning her eyebrows she said <It is a manual, but it is in pure Dwarven, I can only speak Vulgar Dwarven>. Ryan crossed both arms as he watched the details of those engravings intently, "Can I have that book?" he said, looking deep into Nivia's eyes.
The ice mage agreed with her head, "Yes, but I want to take this book here" she said, pointing to what looked like an Ice Grimoire, a thick book with yellowish pages and a gray cover with a giant snowflake in the center.
Across the room, Kodiak shouted "Come on! Then we will loot the area!". The goblins were managing to advance through the crystal sentries, those creatures were a bit slow. There were dozens of goblins attacking the sentries, those greenish creatures were trying to sneak by the legs and arms trying to advance to the other side.
"They have realized our presence" Ruri said. She was firing fire spells at the heads of the monsters that crept through the gaps in the sentries. "I will send the ice spirit" she concluded, extending one of her arms. The ice spirit shrank even further, easily piercing through the barrier the sentries were making.
The sound of the goblin screams intensified, they were being attacked by fire magic and ice magic. The sentinels were impeding, crushing the bodies of those slim creatures with ease, five of the sentinels were in front eliminating hundreds of those creatures.
*GUURUAAAAAAAKKKKKKKK* *HAAUUUUKAAKKIIIIIIIIYAAAAAAA* One of the goblins screamed, causing all the green monsters to turn and run back in the opposite direction. "Are they setting an ambush?" Damian wondered, as he moved forward cautiously, shielding himself behind his shield. The five sentries moved on toward the fleeing goblins, firing more fire attacks.
"That feeling is a little uncomfortable" Kodiak said, as he set his foot in that bloody room with that green goo. There were pieces of dead goblins everywhere, sighing the Druid said "I don't have bear-shaped shoes...".
Kodiak was directly feeling that greenish goo touch his feet and go through the joint of his toes, part of the fur of the bear form was now dirty with the internal fluids of those dead goblins.
In the middle of that silence, a euphoric laugh came. It was the succubus, floating in front of Damian Smith.
<RYAN! YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THIS DUDE'S FACE. HE'S DISGUSTED HAHAHA THIS ROOM. HE'S REMEMBERING THAT DAY>
When Damian turned to talk to Kodiak, Ryan almost lost his own self-control laughing, he was wearing a face of intense discomfort. "Are you okay Damian?" the druid questioned. "Everything is fine, it's just that this blood is reminding me of another confrontation..." Tank was frowning, while with clenched eyes he stared at the dirty floor of that room.
* Tum Tum Tum Tum * The sound of the sentries advancing out of the room echoed again. Until another explosion came * DUUUUM * after the explosion, the sound of some of the melting ice followed with the evaporating water * TSSSSS*
The goblins were grouped in several groups of archers, but they were holding their arrows. The sentries were trying to attack those monsters, but those green creatures were hiding among the crystals and holes in the mining area.
"I will move forward" Ryan said, as he pulled one of his swords out of his inventory. "They know arrows are not effective with the sentinels, we have no other option" he concluded, approaching the exit. The Druid and Shaman agreed, but Damian looked annoyed "You came as a DPS support. I'm the one going forward."
Kodiak's peaceful face finally turned cloudy, with an angry look on his face, he shouted "Don't you understand that this exploration is not about you? Roy got hurt precisely because we failed to act as a team, you are so childish Damian." Behind the druid, Nivia again put her hand on her friend's shoulder, with a look of disappointment, she said "You're a tank, it's your duty to advance. But how can you speak the obvious in such a stupid way."
At the same instant, Damian's face froze, he had a neutral expression, as if he couldn't understand what was happening. nodding, he walked through the door with Ryan and the two of them began their attack. As soon as they both stepped out of the room the sound of iron cutting the air came from all sides of the cave.
*VWUUUUUUUUUSSH*
There were dozens of arrows being launched at the two travelers, Damian extended his shield to protect himself, while Ryan activated his demonic form, causing his flames to protect him. On the other side of the cave, there was a strange figure among the goblins. It was a bluish creature with a giant white smile and red eyes. The creature's face was thin and terrifying, with black lips that only further highlighted that menacing look. That creature was standing behind a wall of crystals, with its robes and long blue hair, that creature was staring intently at Ryan.
