Chapter 2056: The Bridge of Life
“Demonic breeding grounds…” Lu Yun narrowed his eyes, finally seeing the truth of the situation on the other side of Quietus.
Innumerable wills of death swirled in that world, devouring the powerhouses suppressed here and possessing their bodies to walk the world in their stead. But they were wills that lacked a soul, so they naturally lacked thoughts of their own. Under the guidance of a frightening power, they became tools of the overseer.
Ancestor and the Spacetime King had indeed lost control over the World Heart, and completely lost control at that. If it wasn’t for Quietus, the overseer would have taken over all of existence, not just the World Heart.
“Who plunged Quietus into Ancestor’s heart and killed him? If it was the overseer, he wouldn’t create this kind of obstacle for himself…” The question popped into Lu Yun’s mind. It would seem that the circumstances surrounding Ancestor’s death were far more than what they appeared.
Supposing that the overseer was Ancestor’s murderer—he would never leave Quietus behind to create further trouble for himself. Even with the Spacetime King on the scene, he was certain to retrieve the sword.
“So who killed Ancestor?” Lu Yun’s heart pounded as he stared at the enormous weapon. He found it incredibly familiar as it’d once been his weapon. Although he’d given it to Tianqi now, he could take it back at any time if he so desired.
It was the sword’s primary body in front of him!
The young man felt that he could easily pull it out and turn it into his own treasure. But once it was removed, Ancestor would come back to life. Yet, the one who came back to life would not be him.
In this place suffused with boundless wills of death, who knew which one would seize Ancestor’s body as a vessel for themselves?
What was also certain was that the existence created from his body would instantly collapse and all of their plans go to waste. Quietus was the crux of everything.
“Lu Yun,” a voice suddenly sounded in the young man’s ear. Lu Yun’s expression changed drastically when he turned back and he threw himself back several thousand kilometers before stopping.
“What are you so afraid of me for?” The speaker was a young man dressed in a purple shirt and blue outer-robes, a jade belt around his waist. Appearing to be the son of a rich family, he beamed at Lu Yun.
Unrest.
The nihil powerhouse that Yun Yi had sacrificed to, the one who coveted Lu Yun’s Tome of Life and Death. The one who held the Imperial Seal as collateral to ensure that Lu Yun would enter the nothing. He wanted to take the Tome of Life and Death from the young man as soon as Lu Yun entered his territory.
Who would’ve thought that he’d come to the World Heart before Lu Yun had a chance to enter nothing? And it wasn’t his replica, but his primary body. A true nihil powerhouse was here in the flesh!
Lu Yun could ignore empyrean and sacred supremes, but he was far from being a match for nihil powerhouses.
“You can visit the World Heart?” Lu Yun took in a deep breath as his eyes darted uncertainly around the area.
“Of course I can.” The smile deepened on Unrest’s face. He reached out a hand and crushed the dark empyrean supreme to death with a single finger.
Lu Yun’s eyes widened. Thankfully, his new recruit could come back to life through the Tome of Life and Death. He’d already written the empyrean supreme’s name in the treasure. An empyrean-level powerhouse could not be treated like the others.
“How about this, I’ll let you go if you pull out the sword.” Unrest flashed to the young man and pointed at the center of his forehead.
Lu Yun’s temples throbbed painfully.
“Ancestor will come back to life if the sword is removed, aren’t you worried that he’ll kill you when that happens?” Lu Yun sneered, but he was very unsettled. Unrest couldn’t possibly not know the consequences of removing Quietus, but he still insisted on Lu Yun doing so. Plainly, Unrest and Yun Yi didn’t share the same goal.
They were just using each other from beginning to end.
“That’s none of your business. I’ll kill you right now if you don’t pull it out and take your book. I can pull out Quietus myself if I have the book in hand.” Unrest’s fingertip slowly sank into Lu Yun’s forehead; a streak of crimson trickled out through the wound.
“Then kill me. I’ll die anyway once Quietus is removed, so you might as well kill me and do the deed yourself.” Lu Yun stretched out his neck with a snort and closed his eyes. Everything he protected was in the chief worlds. That realm would perish as soon as he removed Quietus, a destruction that would be beyond salvaging.
To Lu Yun, it would make no difference then if he was alive or dead.
“I see, then I’ll do it myself.”
Bam!
A muffled collision sounded from his body. He shook and hurtled backward, like something had punched him.
A hint of a smile appeared on Lu Yun’s face.
“With Yun Yi’s unsurpassed intelligence and watertight planning, how would she fail to take into account the unstable factor that is you?” He breathed out more easily, but the wound in his forehead didn’t close. It still oozed blood and took the power of reincarnation to repair.
“Not bad, is this the power of nothing?” Lu Yun relaxed and inwardly rejoiced that he’d never used the power that Unrest gave him. If he had, the man would probably take possession of him through the power and turn him into a puppet.
A jade seal had flown out of Unrest’s robes and pummeled him with blows as a ball of light.
The Imperial Seal.
The treasure that Unrest had seized was now aimed at his throat and attacked him tirelessly.
“Are you still alive, Yun Yi?” Lu Yun asked haltingly as he looked at the bedraggled Unrest. Although he didn’t sense Yun Yi’s life force anywhere, that didn’t mean she was dead.
The Imperial Seal continued attacking Unrest instead of responding to Lu Yun.
BOOM.
It expanded into a bridge and charged into Unrest’s body, growing rapidly and suppressing the nihil powerhouse. The other side of the bridge slowly extended until it reached Lu Yun’s body.
“This is!!” Lu Yun’s eyes went wide. The Disordered Empyrean Supreme’s replica had once deployed a life extension art that helped him see everything about the grand supreme life form. Yun Yi was now using the seal as a bridge of life to connect their bodies so Lu Yun could see the intricacies of a nihil life form!
“I had a chance of life still… but now I am completely dead,” Yun Yi’s slightly mischievous voice rang out. “Live well in my stead. Don’t die.”
The voice faded away.
