Chapter 2061: The Same Person

Chapter 2061: The Same Person

Could all the great daos of existence be hobbled for the sake of one person?

That person might be very important to the overseer and Dao King, but what did that have to do with everyone else?

They would never allow that to happen!

Even Ancestor and Forebear had constantly tried to breach the overseer’s control and release the great daos held to a state of ethos. It raised the overseer’s attention instead, and he killed both of them.

It really hadn’t been the overseer who’d stabbed Quietus into the World Heart—it’d been the Dao King.

The Dao King had stayed by Mo Yi’s side all this time, trying to find a solution that could satisfy everyone. But when the situation progressed to this point, the next requisite step was for existence to devour the nihil. The Dao King had failed.

This was why the overseer showed himself at this point in time. He wouldn’t allow anyone to harm Mo Yi, even if it took his own life to ensure that.

“One person versus all of existence, how would you chose?” Jiang Chen looked meaningfully at Lu Yun. He’d already made his choice.

“I don’t know…” Lu Yun thought of how Mo Yi had helped him when he was newly come to the world of immortals. She’d stayed by his weak and ignorant side, excavating tombs and digging up burial mounds with him. When the dao immortal of the Qing Clan threatened him, Mo Yi stepped forward and saved his life.

To him, Mo Yi was a friend.

Lu Yun had been alone since childhood and finally made a few friends after coming to the world of immortals. He treasured every single person who had a place in his heart—whether it was Qing Yu, the little fox, or friends such as Mo Yi, Ling Weiyang, and Deixi.

He didn’t want anyone to get hurt, so a decision like this was pure torture.

“Is there really no way for everyone to be happy?” he murmured.

“Yes,” Jiang Chen responded expressionlessly, his heart chilling upon seeing Lu Yun’s reaction. They seemed to have chosen the wrong person.

One should be decisive and resolute for the sake of all existence. Jiang Chen was already disappointed in the young man for waffling and trying to find a so-called solution to satisfy all sides.

“Slaughter everything that lives and destroy existence so that everything begins again,” he said coldly. “When the nothing starts anew and existence is manifested again, that ensures everyone can live. Are you willing to do so?”

Lu Yun frowned, feeling that something was off about this.

“Lu Yun, I know you’re here to change the great daos of the Three Thousand. Only you have the ability to do so and I cannot prevent you from doing so.” The overseer looked calmly at Lu Yun. “But it doesn’t matter anymore. The growth of the realm’s great daos will not affect the mistress. It is the patch of existence that is the greatest threat.”

Lu Yun inclined his head at the overseer, but didn’t say anything.

Jin had said everything that he needed to say. His body faded away, turning into a zombie that fell through the endless void. It wasn’t really his body, just a zombie he’d borrowed to manifest his presence.

Despite that, neither Lu Yun nor Jiang Chen had seen through it.

Jiang Chen looked at Lu Yun with wariness, but didn’t say anything. He walked silently to Ancestor’s coffin of empyrean crystal and sat down cross-legged. This coffin contained all of their hopes.

“What do you think?” Lu Yun looked at Diexi.

“Even zombies can return to yang through yin and become real living beings.” She thought of her own circumstances. She’d been a half-evolved zombie king and slowly progressed to a real being at Lu Yun’s side. She was no longer subject to the constraints of being a zombie.

“If even zombies have a chance of life beneath the heavenly dao, why doesn’t the mistress have this chance?” Being that she was no longer Forebear, she didn’t understand it. She wasn’t Changxi either, she was just Diexi.

“I see,” Lu Yun nodded. He realized why the overseer had shown himself—not to kill Lu Yun, but to drive a rift between him and those he was traveling with.

By now, everyone was aware that he was the crux to whether or not the primordial world of immortals could ascend to the nothing and became a third patch of existence. If he hesitated, there would be those who went on guard against him and perhaps even took action against him.

If that came to be, then it wouldn’t need the overseer’s hand to ensure the collapse of a perfectly operating plan.

The overseer was also right with what he said. He and the Dao King both wanted to protect Mo Yi, the spirit born of the nothing who was on par with a creator. No wonder everyone concealed her identity from him.

If he’d known everything earlier, he wouldn’t have let things progress to this step.

“The Dao King.” Lu Yun suddenly thought of the man in question. The Dao King had died for Mo Yi thirty-three times in the Land of Reincarnation and she had died for Lu Yun. “Is he the creator of the Tome of Life and Death?”

He stood at the core of Ancestor’s tomb and carefully thought through everything.

“The Dao King truly cares for Mo Yi, so he won’t let Mo Yi just die in front of him. The cycles loop in the Land of Reincarnation, so he knows that she will continuously revive. Many important parts of this plot were completed with his hand. He wouldn’t do so if Mo Yi really would die as a result.

“Does this mean that he’s found a way?” He opened his mental eyes and closely observed the internal world of the Tome of Life and Death.

Order was abundant here and it’d evolved to the level of the Three Thousand after the treasure’s third transformation. If this world entered the nothing, it would immediately transform into a patch of real existence that rivaled the Three Thousand.

But the Dao King seemed to have never heard nor seen the treasure before.

“Don’t worry, there is always a ray of hope. There’s a saying on Earth that we can cross the bridge when we come to it, that a way always presents itself,” Diexi comforted upon seeing Lu Yun’s expression.

“I’m actually thinking of another possibility.” Lu Yun stroked his chin and looked meaningfully at the silent Jiang Chen. “Perhaps some people’s goal isn’t to turn the nothing into existence, but to eliminate the mistress.”

Jiang Chen shook.

“Looks like I’m right,” Lu Yun smiled. “C’mon, let’s go to the Three Thousand.”

He and Diexi vanished in the void. With the Gates of the Abyss, he could go anywhere he wished in the Three Thousand.

Confusion flashed through Jiang Chen’s eyes when he opened them.

“The mistress sacrificed herself for all of creation and forcefully propelled the great daos of the Three Thousand forward. She wanted to transform the nothing into existence, but Che stopped her,” he murmured. “There’s one great benefit to living long enough. There’s probably no one else who knows that the so-called Dao King and overseer are the same person.”
