Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Chapter 15: Curse or blessing?

Various images flashed through his mind but in all of them, only one thing was consistent. It was the person in black robes and blood-red eyes. Sometimes the characters change but they all possessed the same dressing style and blood-red eyes.

Damon guessed he was seeing the lives of people and their death and what got him curious was that these people always died fighting armies and large numbers of people alone.

They would fight fiercely and all those who fought them would carry the terrified look on their faces before death. It was the same for every one of them until Damon got to the last slide.

The last person. Was a lady she too wore dark robes but she never had the blood-red eyes. She seemed different and unlike all those who came before her, she was caring and calm.

But her death was the most gruesome. Stabbed in the back by people she protected, killed, and tortured. Her screams of pain and cries for help kept echoing in Damon’s head making him feel uncomfortable.

“What is this?” Damon couldn’t help but wonder.

He failed to understand why he was seeing all of this. Didn’t he just ki Luthor Wright? Is this one of the abilities of the enemy?

.....

“Killing someone with malicious intentions is the way to truly awaken the death magic... You have truly awakened your power” Death said calmly as his figure emerged out of the darkness.

Best

His eyes looked calm unlike before and he showed little all no emotions, unlike before.

“What is this? What did I just watch?” Damon asked again.

“Those are the life of all death mages that came before you. Many had good intentions. Many had no reason to destroy the world. Each is reborn in every new generation after their death but in the end, they all end the same way” Death said coldly.

“The world is afraid of this power?” Damon guessed what death was trying to say but contrary to Death’s expectations Damon didn’t look pissed or scared. He just looked indifferent and a bit confused.

“Yes... I wish I could tell you more about the death magic but I can’t now, it will alter the flow of time... its effect will be so much we won’t be able to rectify it in this lifetime” Death said.

“It’s against the rules we guardian spirits live by” Death said sadly.

“I never asked.... So how do I leave this place?” Damon asked as he strolled around the darkness searching for an exit.

“This brat!” Death cursed but gave up mid-way. He knew getting pissed at this kid won’t work.

“You are the most annoying host I have come across. I have gotten many hosts and all wished to know more, they listened to my words and adored me!” Death said coldly as he followed Damon slowly.

“And how did that work out?” Damon asked indifferently. He wasn’t really paying much attention to Death.

The reply was unexpected as it made Death’s face turn red with embarrassment. He coughed lightly before speaking again.

“What I’m trying to say is that the death magic...”

“The death magic should be kept a secret from now until I have enough strength to handle myself. I understand what you are saying. I’m sure you suggested that to the others right?” Damon asked as he kept walking around.

“Yes...” Death replied slowly.

“I guess they did and I see no problem with that but it all ended the same way. They were outnumbered and fought fiercely... but they all died all the same” Damon said calmly.

“What are you trying to say?” Death asked with a squinted eyebrow.

“What I’m trying to say is this... They kept it hidden but in the end, there is a limit to what one man can do... No one is truly immortal! No one is truly invincible... having such powerful diabolic magic didn’t help either, it simply put a target on their backs” Damon said.

“so you are saying that the death magic is not the problem?” Death asked with a raised eyebrow.

“No, that’s not what I meant, it’s very simple. The problem is that immense power breeds confidence and reduces caution... they all made the same mistakes... the lady tried a new approach which I consider dumb... She tried to be good to people and neglected the strength needed to protect herself properly. If she were half as strong as the others, she wouldn’t have been killed” Damon shrugged his walked aimlessly

“What do you plan to do differently?” Death seemed to be intrigued by the mind of this twelve-year-old.

“Nothing... Absolutely nothing... Right now nothing comes to mind now so I will keep it hidden. When I come up with something, I will join inform you” Damon said casually.

“True... There is no need for you to get an answer now...” Death said.

“Do you regret gaining this power?” Death asked with a raised eyebrow. Only then did Damon turn to look at the charming man.

“This power is like a curse and a blessing and a curse... what it becomes depends on how you use it... Do I regret it? Na... this is a major upgrade to my life. At least now I have the power to control my fate. I will call it a win for me” Damon said calmly as he held out his hand and gazed at it strangely.

He could feel the power surging through his veins. While the fire element was triggered by his anger, the wind was triggered by his Indifference, the shadow is triggered by his emptiness. The power of the death element was like painful hunger, it made him feel like he can devour the world.

This made him extremely uncomfortable. Without being told, Damon knew if he lets their power get the best of him, he will only end up getting consumed by it too. He wasn’t dumb enough to totally trust a man called death.

“This power is just too strong” Damon said calmly. He could feel the difference between it and his other elements.
