62 Chapter 61: Unexpected visit
Damon quickly returned to the dormitory with a smile on his face. The fusion failure in the class was truly an accident. Since he already failed and harmed himself, he couldn’t return to class quickly. What the hell, he could use this as an excuse and take the day off!
He quickly ran up the stairs only to reach his floor and see an elderly man in Gray robes standing at his door. Seeing Arch mage Kratos, Damon frowned but he didn’t panic. He stood at a spot for a second or slightly above it before he approached again.

Arch mage Kratos sat on a chair as his eyes darted across the room, in response Damon sat on his bed in silence and watched the strongest mage in the empire, wondering what might have brought him here.
His thoughts flashed and he soon remembered the events of the previous night and wondered if they truly found the bodies.
Within, his mind was chaotic and violent but outside, Damon was as still as a statue.
“The supernatural beings made a move last night. They used the love house formation to prevent those outside from noticing. I can’t say for sure since I wasn’t there but I bet they were attempting some sort of sacrificial magic on the students partying in the next hall” arch mage Kratos finally took a short pause and Damon took the opportunity to ask.
“Did they succeed?” Damon asked coldly.
Gazing at the nonchalant attitude Damon carried, Arch Mage Kratos frowned a bit but still answered.

“It was stopped by someone. Someone dangerous. You need to be careful” The Arch mage said and only then did Damon let out a sigh of relief.
All this while he maintained the cold and distant air just to throw away any form of suspicion thrown his way but that didn’t happen.
“Hmph! What sort of a lone wolf would be terrified of a supernatural being? I have nothing to say” Damon snorted disdainfully and flicked his fingers.
Hearing his response, Kratos wore a bitter smile and said.
“Have you heard of the guardian spirits?” His eyes flickered with emotions when he asked the question but it was already for a brief moment.
“Yes, Klien’s sister was killed by the kingdom, Gin’s family was wiped out because of this. Cyrus’ elder brother was killed because of this too. This empire is really good at making enemies” Damon said casually with a raised eyebrow.
He had no intentions of hiding his knowledge of the guardian spirits, that way he wouldn’t look like a Hypocrite.
“And what about you, do you also bare a grudge against the kingdom?” Kratos asked calmly.
Hearing the question, Damon thought for a while and shook his head.
“My real parents were executed by some nobles and the Ross family took me in as their own. If I have a grudge it will be against that noble family, naturally, I have no reason to hate the kingdom personally. But my team and I bonded due to our traumatic past experiences. Isn’t that cute?” Damon asked with a sad smile.
“Ooh... I wasn’t aware of that. Everyone actually thinks you are a direct descendant of the Ross family but just from another woman. But since it’s a family matter I have no business discussing it with anyone else.” Kratos was slightly surprised when he learned that Damon was not actually a Ross.
Unknown to him, Damon kept revealing personal information about him and his team so casually when speaking with the arch mage just to win his trust. Even if the arch mage had a sliver of doubt in his heart earlier, after listening to Damon spit out their ‘team secrets’ he would instinctively believe he knows all about their team and has nothing to fear.

“As for your friends, I truly apologize. It’s sad to hear your strong friendship is one bound by tragedies caused by the empire but in the case of the guardian spirits, it is necessary. Guardian spirit hosts are beasts of nature who directly control a particular element from its most extreme form to its most basic. Practically, people use mana and world energy to cultivate, guardian spirit hosts can use the element directly as a means of cultivation.” Kratos said honestly.
“Be it death or life, or fire or storm. Whatever power they command is extremely terrifying. They are the most dangerous beings in the world” Kratos said.
“And have you ever considered turning these dangerous beings into weapons for the sake of the empire? Amongst the races living on the continent, the Gyro Kingdom has recorded the highest amount of guardian spirit hosts which is quite a shame. If the kingdom had taken advantage of this from the beginning to create a force of his own to fight and suppress the world’s enemies, it would have controlled the world already” Damon said with a hint of disappointment in his voice.
“It is not that easy.” Kratos said.
“You are a cosmic spirit host yet they made you stay and serve. Rumors are that cosmic spirit hosts are as strong or even slightly stronger than guardian spirit hosts. Yet they made you stay. Everyone has a price, all you need to do is give them a reason to stay” Damon said casually.
“Guardian spirits are more unstable than expected. Unlike we cosmic spirit hosts who have total control of our actions, guardian spirit hosts are influenced by their guardian spirits. If you allow the holy guardian spirits of life to exist then keep it in mind that sometime in the future, you will see a crusade aimed at wiping out all manner of dark magic in the world. The guardian spirit of death will seek actively seek out the dead and men of light. The Guardian spirit of fire has nothing better to do but to create chaos and destruction. Time and time again, this has happened no matter how much or how well they were treated. Their actions and petty squabbles always lead to the death of people in hundreds of thousands at the very least” Kratos said with a stern look on his face
