Chapter 92

92 Chapter 91: I know what to do now

Since the old gods could not directly force the God vein and take its resources, they could only go around this by putting their soul imprints on the beings created by this world. They watch over these people and watch them cultivate and accumulate energy. Once they reach a certain point and the host dies, they consume its soul and refine the accumulated power to help boost their own just like Damon was doing but at a much larger scale.

But the laws of the world encourage reincarnation but whatever these people are doing is causing imbalance, destroying the natural cycle of life.

“We death gods are reincarnated in every lifetime. It has been us, returning with just a small glimpse of our previous lives and trying to avoid our old mistakes but it always ends without our death. This world cannot continue this way. It has enough resources for this final push. The rate at which the old gods and the cosmic spirit are consuming its energy is too much. It’s not replenishing as fast as they consume. That was how they greedily destroyed their world and that is how they choose to destroy ours!” Sol said but Damon remained silent with a thoughtful expression on his face.

He didn’t ask about the cosmic spirits because he had a clear understanding of what they are and how they work. Unlike the old gods, these cosmic beings cannot roam the world, nor can they leave their domain, so they put their soul imprints in souls created by this world, and feed off them once they die.

Just like they will when the arch mage Kratos dies. He will not escape their grasp in death.

Thinking of this horrible fate awaiting all life in this world, Damon frowned. The previous hosts were all reincarnations of the old ones, trying to make things right in this new life but now the death magic has been shifted to him and the new hosts abruptly.

The funny thing is that they are natural beings who possess the soul imprints of the old gods. So hiding the death magic in the body of such a host is unexpected. Not even the old gods will expect it.

Considering this, Damon understood that the God vein is getting desperate to use this technique. If this set of hosts should fail, it spells the end of this world at the hands of these gluttonous gods!

“This will be a major problem” Damon said with a frow

.....

“The sole purpose of this is to have you see the bigger picture here and the reason we have fallen in the past. The world which we were created to rule has rejected us and killed us so many times. Our last death was an attempt to try and become a part of the world instead of going against it. We wanted to thrive together with the world and make them our allies, that way we can focus on accumulating power for the true foes ahead but we failed... This world is protected by laws, preventing deities like the old gods from directly interfering but they seem to know their way around the system and always find a way to manipulate the thoughts and minds of the key people ruling this world. Don’t for once see them as allies and let your guard down. Not because they are bad but because they can never be good as long as the old gods exist... For the sake of having a future, you must throw away your conscience and do what is necessary!” Sol said with a stern tone.

As he talked his voice was slowly getting overlapped by more voices. His figure began to change as he slowly began to return to the form of the death mage.

“As the god of death, I alone could find a way back to remind my reincarnated self of what the real goal should be. I have been doing this since the beginning of time but even now the power of my soul has become too weak.... This will be the last time I will be able to do this.... The world is pouring everything it has into this last set of hosts. Do not fail, for both our sakes!” Sol said as his figure slowly began to fade.

Damon who has been quiet and pondering since began to panic. He had questions he wanted to ask but he had decided to ponder on them first before anything since he assumed they had time but he was wrong.

He soon noticed the fading light above getting brighter. Whoever was trying to save his life was doing a really good job at it. Who would have thought a day would come when Damon would feel infuriated by the thought of getting saved?

“Tell me the most important thing you think I should know. We don’t have much time left so that’s all I can ask!” Damon said with a sad look on his face.

A wasted opportunity is one that cannot come by again in his life. So he could only do this much.

“Hehehe. Death is absolute. Trust in your power and have absolute faith in it. If I did back then I would have been killed... nobody should have been able to kill me after I became a demigod but I didn’t trust my power and ended up dead. Hehehe.... Can you imagine death dying?” Sol laughed bitterly and Damon smiled.

He bowed respectfully with eyes filled with determination. To be reincarnated time and time again only to be murdered repeatedly and even now they are still worried about the world. If this person didn’t deserve his utmost respect then no one does. While he may not be sure if he will succeed, the best he could do right now is help this wrong soul find peace and finally rest.

“You don’t have to worry about anything. I swear on my life, I will succeed where you failed... This world will not fall” Damon said with a firm look in his eyes.

Only after seeing this did Sol finally let out a sigh of relief. He had been worried about Damon dying for a long while now but seeing the determination in the kid’s eyes, he could tell for sure that the kid would at least die trying just like he did. That assurance was more than enough to put his troubled soul at rest.

“Thank you?” Sol’s figure was practically nonexistent now. The bright light above made it even harder to see him well but Damon could see him clearly.

Hmph!

“You don’t have to thank me. I am doing this for both our sakes” Damon responded with a light frown as he walked towards the light boldly.

Now he knew what was going on and the truth about the world and the God’s veins, he knew who the true enemy was and what must be done to win.

His humanity would have to go If they wish to survive.

He understood quite well why Sol and the rest failed time and time again after everything he saw. No matter how bad things were, they all tried to be human. They cared about the little things of life and held back even when surrounded by a sea of soldiers who wished to take their lives.

They never could bring themselves to kill so many humans since they don’t blame them. Because of that, they had to die time and time again, only after realizing their mistakes now did they try to make amends but it was already the end of their lives. There was no more chance for that anymore.

“Now you understand what I have been trying to make you understand all this while. These people are evil and you cannot win evil with good. It’s impossible! History is written by the victors and in their stories, we are the bad ones.... That’s because they are winning!” Death slowly appeared as his voice bloomed in Damon’s fragile mind.

“Then it’s time for me to win... it’s time for me to be the one to write history!” Damon said with a stern look on his face and death nodded in agreement.

“Yes, it is our time to write history. We have tried to do things the right way but even that failed. You have to remember, outside the guardian spirits no one is completely free from the influence of the old gods! Trust no one, be outside them!” Death said coldly as he remembered the death of Sol’s last reincarnation.

Klien’s sister who stood alongside Gin and Cyrus’ brothers. They gathered and decided to serve this kingdom to the best of their abilities in hopes of making this world trust them. Sol even went as far as to reincarnate as a woman just to soften their hearts yet these people still had the guts to take his life. If Damon were to die the same way, wouldn’t he be a fool?

“You don’t have to worry about anything again. Unlike before I know what to do now” Damon said to death with a calm look on his face before stepping into the light.
