[Handmade Evolution]

“Tsk!” (Sakurai)

Eventually, a pole shot by Julia breaks through Iris’s defense and begins to reach me.

I swing my sword with one hand and knock the pole off, but I’m forced to slow down the chariot in order to regain my shaken posture.

“Sakurai-sa~n! I am sorr~y!” (Iris)

“Don’t mind it, Iris. It’s not a problem!” (Sakurai)

The worst situation would only come to be if the pole hits the luggage bag on the wagon, and since the trap immediately following the start worked out well, this is far from a problem.

I slow down further to get ready.

Julia frowns a little at my action, but the driver of her chariot swings the reins to speed up, perhaps seeing it as an opportunity.

While seeing them off getting further away, I have Iris starts chanting magic and pull the luggage bag closer to me and wait for the right timing.

“——! Stop the chariot!” (Julia)

“Eh!?”

“Hurry!” (Julia)

Just before finishing the curve at the end of the course, Julia notices something, grabs the driver’s shoulder, and yells.

The driver tries to stop the chariot by pulling the reins strongly while being puzzled by the sudden instruction, but neither the horse nor the chariot that has gained a lot of momentum can stop just like that.

“We won’t make it, huh!” (Julia)

Promptly, Julia shoots a number of blades makes from her ‘Conversion’ into the empty air in front of her, but as she said, she’s already too late.

And just like that, the chariot, on which Julia rides, plunges right into my wire trap zone, where dozens of threads are still stretched out, connecting the entrance and the participants at the starting line.

“How careless of me. Quickly cut the threads!” (Julia)

Julia immediately gives instruction to the knight apprentice who rides together with her while slashing at the threads entwining her horse and chariot with a sword and blades she created, cutting them off one after another.

Since the participants who get off from their chariots will be disqualified, Julia and her companion are swinging their weapons from the top of the chariot, but naturally, their movements are different from those people who got flustered at the start. With Julia’s precise instructions, the threads can only stall them for about thirty seconds.

However, 30 seconds in the race is a fatal loss.

For with the leg strength of Horsie, the distance opened by Julia can be easily covered in those 30 seconds!

“It’s our chance, Horsie! Run ahead with all your might!” (Sakurai)

“Neigh!”

After I hit Horsie’s body with the reins, Horsie, pulling the chariot, starts running with all his might, narrowing the distance between us and Julia and her comrade.

And then, we pass by the side of Julia and her comrade who are trying to reorganize themselves, and, with my dee~pest gratitude, go through the way that they have opened by cutting off the threads.

However, the starting line for entering the second lap that comes in sight after that is blocked by a wall of scattered wreckages of chariots that’s been abandoned by their participants, along with their horses, because of reasons such as the participants have given up or the chariots have been damaged to the point of being unable to move.

Naturally, there is no gap in the wall of wreckages that spreads before us that our chariot can pass through.

Moreover, there are some rotten guys waiting among the wreckages of the chariots that got stuck, seemingly targeting us, who are getting closer.

What kind of end would be waiting for us if we proceed straight ahead as is, you probably understand.

“But the only path to victory is forward! Iris, do it!” (Sakurai)

“Heave ho—!” (Sakurai)

Iris casts a magic. It’s the magic that produces a large amount of water she used against me and Higaki in the tower in the Netherworld.

Swinging the giant water ball that is created at the tip of her long rod, she throws it at the wall of the wreckages.

The tsunami that is born from it swallows the waiting participants, and most of them get officially disqualified because they are washed away from the wreckages.

What’s left behind is a course that has become muddy, on which there are soaked wreckages, and real buttinskies who managed to cling onto their chariots even after getting hit by the tsunami.

Iris, who were intending to wash everyone away with magic, raises her voice looking at them.

“Sakurai-sa~n! There are still some people lef~t!” (Iris)

“Don’t worry, who do you think created this situation! Hold tight!” (Sakurai)

“Neigh!”

Horsie, who I’ve hurried, keeps pulling the chariot without slowing down, even though the course he’s running on has become muddy.

While being satisfied with the gutsy Horsie who doesn’t hesitate even though the wall of wreckages is getting closer in front of him, I take out three items from the luggage bag to reward him.

‘Idaten’s Hagoromo’ that is so thin that you can see through it.

‘Sky Soaring Bridge’, a bundled, unique raw silk thread.

And ‘Pegasus Wings’, a flat piece of steel plate with a horse head as a motif.

They are the set of items which is called the ‘Three Sky Series’ that I got in the previous incident.

I pick them up, and put them on Horsie without hesitation!

“Now, it’s your time to evolve, Horsie! Don’t you get scared and go wild this time!” (Sakurai)

The hagoromo entwines itself around Horsie, and wings grow from the steel plate attached to his back.

In front of him appear a road of cloud created by the power of the bundle of silk thread, leading toward the sky.

[W-what on earth is thattt!? The horse grows a pair of wings and starts running into the skyyyy!?]

“HAHAHAHA!” (Sakurai)

I laugh loudly in response to the confused voice of the commentator.

In the game era, equipment can only be equipped by the characters, but it is arrogant of you to think that equipment that shows its power when worn can only be equipped by humans in this world that has turned into reality.

If an injured animal can be healed with a potion, then even Three Sky Series, which gives one the power to run in the sky, shall be effective if you equip them on an animal!

In other words, as long as they have this Three Sky Series, even if they are a horse or a fish, anyone can fly in the sky! Anyone!!

“This is my handmade artificial Pegasus! Horsie’s evolved form, Horsie the Pegasus! You pathetic losers crawling on the ground better do your best to engrave his majestic figure into your brains!” (Sakurai)

“Sakurai-san, why did you blatantly provoke them!” (Iris)

[Horsie the Pegasus. What a simple name.] (Luisina)

“The hell did you say, Luisina! If you think so, why don’t you try give him a better name than the one I gave! A name that makes sense!” (Sakurai)

“More importantly, hold the reins tighter, Sakurai-san!” (Iris)

Oops, that was dangerous. If I don’t hold the reins firmly, the wheels of the chariot may come off the cloud road and makes us fall down to the ground depending on Horsie’s behavior.

Besides, all we have to do now is run through the air and go around the course, but I don’t know what Julia, who got stuck because of the mud and wall of wreckages, will do.

We’ll definitely turn into a joke in case she manages to make us crash somehow, so I have to be careful.

“Well, there is a limit to what she can do from below, so long as we raise our altitude, the rest of the race will surely be one-sided! Now, run into the sky, Horsie the Pegasus! Higher, higher!” (Sakurai)

“Neigh!!”
