Chapter 10

The cold war continued into the night.

An emaciated female slave carried a woven basket to Lin Lei’s room, then put it down with a bang.

“Time to eat!”

Hearing the emaciated female slave’s words, Lin Lei sprang up from his bed and lifted the curtain.

Dinner was similar to what he had on his first day in Talantum. It was toasted bread and some tasteless root soup.

Lin Lei munched on his bread as he stared at Daisy’s room. He did not believe that Daisy would not show up for the meal.

As expected, Daisy had indeed lifted the curtain and did not put it down. However, Lin Lei was shocked in the next second.

What was going on? He could only drink this awful soup while Daisy could eat a sumptuous meal.

In addition to the bread and soup, Daisy also had two eggs, a grilled fish, an apple, and even a large piece of beef shank.

When the female slave took out a flask of wine from the basket did Lin Lei finally lose his patience.

“Hey, hey, hey, what right does she have to eat so much?!”

Hearing Lin Lei’s shout, the female slave rolled her eyes at Lin Lei, but when she saw his face, she blushed slightly.

“You… You… You guys are different…”

By the time the female slave ran off with the basket, Lin Lei still did not understand what was so different about him and Daisy.

Daisy did not put down the curtain, and in front of Lin Lei, she began to gobble down the large piece of beef in a rather heroic manner while mocking him.

“Don’t make things difficult for her. I spent money on this.”

“You spent money?” Lin Lei was shocked. “A gladiator can have private money?”

“What’s private money?”

Hearing Daisy’s question, Lin Lei gave a brief explanation.

Daisy quickly understood and said, “If that’s the concept, then it does exist.”

“Then how do I save up my private money?” By now, Lin Lei had completely forgotten about his previous question on how to fight magic users.

He had not eaten meat in a long time, and now that he saw Daisy gobbling up meat, he felt like ants were crawling all over his body.

Daisy tore the beef in her mouth as she said, “You’ll find out tonight.

“But even if you can earn some extra money, you won’t be able to eat meals like this.

“This piece of beef is from the minotaur that died in the arena yesterday. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, and it’s finally dead.

“This piece can be bought for two silver coins. You orc slaves only get four silver coins.”

Lin Lei, looking at the fate of his defeated opponent, felt rather complicated emotions.

That monster would just be a big piece of meat after it died.

Although it was expensive, it was still meat.

This was the first time Lin Lei had seen the law of the jungle come to life. The weak would truly be eaten.

He put away this feeling and pretended to ask casually, “It died yesterday? Could this thing be a gladiator? If gladiators lose, can we buy their meat?”

Lin Lei’s words were clearly disgusting, but Daisy did not care at all. She gave a terrifying answer.

“Of course. Although I’m not interested, there are a few races among the gladiators who are cannibals.

“You can also buy them as long as you can afford them.”

These words, in turn, disgusted Lin Lei, causing him to lose all desire to eat.

Seeing Lin Lei put down the bread, Daisy began to mock him.”You won’t go far in the arena if you’re soft-hearted.

“If you don’t want your body to appear on the table of some gladiator, then don’t let yourself lose.”

Lin Lei pressed his palms together, bowing sincerely toward Daisy. “Thank you, I’ll work hard.”

Daisy looked at the abnormally serious Lin Lei, somewhat stunned. “No need to thank me.

“It’s made me aware of my situation.”

Lin Lei was chewing on the bread in his mouth.”I’ll definitely live, I swear!”

Seeing this, Daisy’s anger over Lin Lei’s harassment disappeared.

She picked up a piece of bread and threw it toward Lin Lei. “Catch.”

Lin Lei subconsciously caught it, then heard Daisy say, “I’m sick of eating this. I always have leftovers, so I’m giving them to you.”

Lin Lei said his thanks, then began to eat.

The two of them finished their meal in silence, and the female slave came to collect the tableware with a basket.

Taking the bowl of soup from Lin Lei, which had been completely licked clean, the female slave pulled out an apple from the bottom of the basket and handed it to him.

“For me?”

Hearing Lin Lei’s question, the emaciated slave nodded.

However, Lin Lei shook his head, pushing the apple away. “You’re still growing, so you should eat this.”

The female slave could not convince Lin Lei, and since she had other jobs to do, she could only drag the basket away.

Daisy looked at Lin Lei, then asked, “You’re already in this state, yet you still have the capacity to pity others?”

Lin Lei watched the female slave walk away, his eyes unfocused. “I’m not pitying others.

“I just think that people shouldn’t live like this.

“At her age, she should be with her parents, watching her favorite performances, talking about handsome men with her friends, and looking forward to love.

“She shouldn’t be experiencing all this.”

“This isn’t how they should live? Hmph!” Daisy snorted. “When I was her age, I was already at war with the Halhaza.”

“Oh?” Lin Lei rolled his eyes. “You Satya people are truly amazing.”

“Thanks for the compliment.”

Daisy stretched her body. “I’m done eating. Since I’m free, I’ll teach you a few moves.”

Lin Lei’s eyes were shining! “Really?”

“What do you think?” Daisy made a strange gesture. “If you don’t want to practice, I don’t have to teach you.”

“That’s impossible? I wanna learn!”

Lin Lei’s spirit was roused.

“Very good. I’m going to teach you the Manggus Breathing Technique.”

The lesson continued late into the night. Just as Lin Lei was beginning to understand what was going on, he was interrupted.

Under the light of the torch at the entrance to Lin Lei’s corridor, a few long shadows appeared.

Lin Lei changed his posture and turned his gaze.

The people of Talantum liked to wear long robes, and the style was more unified. Even Tullius only used purple on the borders.

However, the few people who came in had different styles of robes. Their robes had an additional hood that covered their heads.

They were also wearing wooden masks on their faces, which added to their suspicious aura.

Lin Lei turned his gaze to Daisy.

Daisy said, “Aren’t you curious about how to make private money? They’ll teach you.”

The masked men walked to the door to Lin Lei’s room. With a bang, an abnormally large masked man unloaded the chest from his shoulder.

The sound caused Lin Lei’s heart to skip a beat. The weight of that sound was ridiculously heavy.

One of the masked men with a purple-rimmed hood walked out of the crowd and greeted Daisy.

“Greetings, Windtalker.”

Then, he turned and called out to Lin Lei, “Greetings, Bull Butcher.”
