Memories (1)

In the narrow bathroom and amidst the splashing sound of water, Ruan Qingmu muttered, “A bad person killed his whole family and he was the only survivor since he managed to hide himself in the woodpile during the slaughter. I happened to be passing by and the whole courtyard was covered in blood when I found him.”

The little mute blankly raised his head and looked at Ruan Qingmu.

“I caught those bastards and stuffed a cleaver into his hands. I would take him in if he dared to take revenge on his own. I would send him to another foster family and leave some money if he didn’t dare to make a move. In the end, can you guess what happened?”

The little mute couldn’t understand and began to look down, busying himself with playing with the water.

Outside, Mu Wanli leaned against the door and listened. After a while, she couldn’t hear clearly what her son was muttering about inside and walked away.

Ruan Qingmu spoke to himself. “He was only about ten years old and couldn’t even stand properly while holding the cleaver. However, he stabbed every villain four or five times while crying and personally killed all those bastards from the Qinglu Sect.”

He raised the little mute’s head and tapped the little guy’s nose. “You probably wouldn’t dare if that was you.”

The little mute didn’t know what he was talking about, but he could sense whether a stranger was good or evil. He watched as the pretty little brother’s mouth opened and closed while in a daze.

“Unfortunately, he couldn’t speak again after this incident. The doctor said it was probably a heart disease caused by hiding in the haystack, holding his voice, and not daring to shout out that day. Unlike you who were born with it, right?”

Ruan Qingmu lazily sighed. “The more unfortunate thing was that he didn’t kill all the foes and left one. That person pretended to die and escaped. When he went back, he spread rumors, saying that their Qinglu Sect had run into the young master of the Demonic Sect who raped and killed girls, slaughtered a whole innocent villager’s family, and even killed all of his righteous brothers. Tch, look. Wasn’t this person worse than your uncle’s family?”

The little mute stared at him with his big eyes.

“But I wasn’t angry about this. He had been a bastard that needed to be killed, that’s all.” Ruan Qingmu shook his head. “I was angry at another idiot.”

His gaze fell to the quiet phone at the side, suddenly hating it until his teeth itched.

He had been pursued for more than a dozen days based on several accusations planted by the so-called righteous sects. Saying that, although he didn’t know any of the murdered villagers and didn’t have any relationship with the Qinglu Sect, he couldn’t just watch a wicked villain like that man get away.

What did it matter to him? And what the hell did he know?!

“What do you think he was if not mental?” He clenched his teeth and spat out his words.

The little mute was startled by his suddenly stern face and dodged backward.

Ruan Qingmu resentfully scrubbed the mute boy’s skin, giving his feet a proper wash at this time.

The little mute’s feet were being constantly tickled and he couldn’t help laughing.

Ruan Qingmu looked at him, suddenly feeling a bit sad.

He was young and hadn’t learned to hate yet, so he could still laugh innocently like this.

He was so unlike the kid from his previous life who never smiled again after his entire family was murdered coldbloodedly.

He took the child in, taught him martial arts, and provided him with food and clothes. Rather than saying he was a bodyguard, he was more of a personal servant.

The kid was truly loyal and devoted to him, even willing to give his life to him.

That was why he hated Qin Yuan so much. He never doubted once that he would be capable of such things.

Ruan Qingmu had truly been a foolish kid. Even if his servant could speak, who would believe a person at the side of the young master of the Demonic Sect?

… Nobody would believe him. That Qin-shaoxia, who was as cold as an iceberg and hated evil, actually believed him.

Ruan Qingmu became angrier the more he thought about it and he resentfully looked down at the little mute. “So, don’t you think I’m supposed to ignore and directly kill him when this fool was poisoned?”

The little mute was scared by his suddenly fierce face and frantically shook his head.

Ruan Qingmu looked at him for a long time before finally letting out a soft sigh, his expression turning gentle. “You shook your head, meaning that you don’t agree with it. Fine, I’ll listen to you. We won’t kill him.”

***

On Monday morning, the first class began with the first big monthly exam for the sophomore year.

The two main courses being tested in the morning were English and Chinese. The invigilator entered the classroom on time and began passing out the exam papers.

Fang Li sat in the second to last row. He worriedly looked behind the empty seat when he received the exam papers passed to him from the front seat.

Ruan Qingmu didn’t attend the morning exercise and the morning reading class. Now that the exam had already begun, Ruan Qingmu still hadn’t arrived at school yet either.

Did something happen to him? Or was he sick and had already sent a request into Old Jian for leave?
