Sleep At My Place (3)

The sky was high, the clouds were far, and the weather was sunny at the start of September.

On the sportsfield of Experimental No. 3, colorful flags fluttered around and groups of squads stood under the bleachers.

The squad from every class had just finished their walk. Ruan Qingmu held a class sign and stood in front of Class 9’s line with a face full of despair.

He felt so fucking regretful that he wanted to bang his head on a wall. Was the sports representative even a human job?

He not only had to lead the whole class to walk in squad formation, but he also had to shout the slogan, salute the teacher’s seat, and lead his classmate to make a pose. One misstep and he would mess everything up. He had to be super careful.

After the sports competition finished, he would choke Huang Ya and the others to death. That disgusting pose at the end where the whole class made hearts between a male and female pair was something only they could think of.

It was also his fault that he agreed to this without any misgivings on his end. Once it was time to get this done, he felt so embarrassed that he wanted to bury his head in the sand. Old Jian was also a big-hearted person and had a great time taking pictures in the stands, smiling like a chrysanthemum.

The headmaster’s dull voice drifted out from the big loudspeaker. “Experimental No. 3’s autumn sports competition officially begins now. Here, I offer my best wishes for everyone to get the best result on behalf of all the teachers. Let your sweat pour and let your youth shine! Now, dismissed on the spot!”

The rousing <<Athlete March>> immediately took over, accompanied by the sweet voice of the girl at the school broadcast station. “Dear students and athletes who are ready to go, hello. Now, please report to the relevant spots immediately for the athletes of the following events. Thank you.”

The squads of each class were dismissed and gradually gathered around their own class’ sports representative. Some classes were obviously well-disciplined and well-organized, with athletes who were supposed to report for duty going to report to their sports representative and students without events taking care of logistics. Everything was neat and tidy and the event went without a hitch.

Sophomore year Honor Class 1 was clearly an example of this – Fu Songhua wore spirited sportswear and smugly held the arrangement table.

“Here, here. Big Liu and several of you go to buy water and snacks. Feng Juan, your group of girls should stay here and don’t move around anymore. Wait until they come back and then deliver the water. Liu Lianyi, you guys should go to the 100 meters and 200 meters spots and wait there to cheer for our class in the preliminary round.”

Class 1’s girls, who signed up weren’t many, all sweetly responded to him, “Sports representative, don’t worry. We’re waiting to watch your long jump and high jump. When are you going up?”

Fu Songhua proudly straightened his chest. “I have the long jump in the morning and the high jump in the afternoon. Remember to take lots of pictures of me. I want one at every moment! The one high up in the sky, the one rising up to jump, the one straddling the railing, and the one in midair!”

“Okay, we got it. Sports representative, you’re so disgusting.” A boy weirdly shouted, “At that time, we will take ten continuous shots.”

Fu Songhua looked around and suddenly whispered to a boy, “Can you help me out with something? In a moment, run around everywhere and monitor Class 9’s situation.”

Qin Yuan stood on the other side and raised his head to look at him. “What? Now you know to have your guard up against them?”

Fu Songhua scratched his head. “Normally, there’s nothing to be wary of. I asked around, but only Liu Jun and Li Zhiyong in their class can play. However, those two idiots didn’t participate, hahaha.”

“Why do you want to monitor them then?” Qin Yuan indifferently asked.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but I’ve always had the feeling that Ruan Qingmu would cause trouble. My mind is a little uneasy about the games currently!”

The big loudspeaker started to announce several early competition categories that would be held in the morning. “For the students participating in the junior year and sophomore year’s boy 100 meters sprint, please gather in the check-in spot 2 in the east field. Thank you, everyone. At the same time, please report for the junior year’s boy discus throw and girl shot put preliminary round. Please also report at nine o’clock for sophomore year’s boy and girl long jump…”

Fu Songhua jumped high several times. “Class monitor, I’ll go prepare for check-in right now.”

Qin Yuan let out a grunt. “Go, leave this to me.”

He picked up the personally made table and looked at the class’ literature and art representative, Liu Lianyi. “Could you please make sure that we have someone on the side of the field for each event in our class, please?”

Liu Lianyi smiled sweetly. “Don’t worry, class monitor. I will allocate them well.”

Qin Yuan nodded. “The boys in 408 and 409 who didn’t have any event, go follow the physical labor representative to move over water.”

Someone has to be in charge of the logistics. Not to mention the athletes, the mineral water had to be supplied even for the ordinary students running around on the field and they also had to keep up with the cheerleaders’ distribution. They couldn’t let the athletes in their class run hard for half a day without any water.

On Class 9’s side, Tang Tiantian looked at the several girls still leftover and almost burst into tears. “Sports representative, is this really okay? Basically, nobody will cheer for the athletes, ah.”

Ruan Qingmu took off his school uniform, revealing the sports shorts and black sports vest inside, and lazily raised his eyes. “Why would they need anybody cheering for them? They can run by themselves.”

He calmly did several stretches on the spot and added, “Anyway, you guys won’t get any ranks.”

Tang Tiantian creased his nose. The several small freckles on her face almost turned red due to anxiousness. “It can’t be said like that! Nobody will be cheering for you later…”

Ruan Qingmu waved his hand. “Hehe, I don’t need that.”

Tang Tiantian was instantly deflated. “Forget about it. T-Then, I’ll go to check-in too.”

There weren’t many boys left on their side. Huang Ya and the others had vanished earlier. Ruan Qingmu unhurriedly walked to the 100 meters sprint spot by himself, slowly increasing his speed.

After that, he began to dash.

Under the start of September’s morning sun and with the caress of the breeze, his lonely figure met the coming sunshine’s direction and ran like the wind, recklessly rising…

Class 1’s physical labor representative led several boys and moved boxes after boxes of mineral water bottles and snacks to their class area.

The mineral water came with ice and the room temperature version while the snacks were in a separate large box, with expensive chocolates and yogurt fully packed inside.

“The class monitor is so generous. Hehehe.” The physical labor representative didn’t have an event in the morning. He took out the well-prepared plastic bags and vigorously divided them into smaller portions.

One plastic bag contained one mineral water, a fruit-flavored yogurt, a bag of potato chips, a sack of energy bars, and a fancy chocolate block to replenish their energies.

The bottled water was quite cheap, but the snacks added up to at least a thousand yuan. The class fee was so pitifully small that everyone knew in their hearts that the class monitor paid the extra money using his own money.

This was also the sort of thing that made the other classes extremely jealous. None of the other classes had a class monitor whose family owned a mine!

The work was not tiring, but they really wasted a lot of time getting it done. Fu Songhua had already left for the race, so Qin Yuan kept watch of the logistics this morning.

He led several boys to distribute the goods while the girls rushed to the field in an orderly manner with the items. Not long after, the result of the first preliminary round came over from the loud loudspeakers.

“Congratulations to the student participating in the sophomore year’s boy 100 meters. From the total of 40 students in five groups, the top eight have just been decided. The final will take place in one hour. Please report on time at 9:50. Wishing everyone the best of luck!”

Qin Yuan’s hand suddenly paused.

The first category Ruan Qingmu participated in was 100 meters.

The result of the preliminary round had come out.
