Gentle Youths (1)

Qin Yuan turned his head and distantly stared at the race tracks from afar.

The crowd bustled and a faint liveliness came through. They seemed to be cheering at this time.

He grabbed his phone and looked at the QQ group of his class. Indeed, there was a live broadcast from the cheerleaders at the front lines.

“The results are coming in! It looks like our class’ Zhou Huayu is entering the final lap!”

“The PE teachers are not releasing the results for the time being, but it’s said that the first place goes to that bastard from Class 6.”

“That must be it, ah. He’s a sports student and even had professional training.”

Qin Yuan stared at the QQ group and suddenly typed a string of words. “Does anyone know the result for Class 9’s Ruan Qingmu?”

The group was silent for a while. “Don’t know, ah. He wasn’t in the same preliminary group as our class’ Zhou Huayu. But, do you want to know, boss? We will go ask around!”

Not too long after, someone suddenly sent out a string of words in astonishment. “Ruan Qingmu is entering the final!! Nobody knew his specific score, but… fuck, they say he was the first place in Class 6’s entire group?”

After Class 1’s group was silent for a while, Fu Songhua’s profile picture popped out. “Hahaha. How weak must their group be?”

“That’s right, must’ve been their luck.”

Qin Yuan indifferently watched and typed out a message. “Entering the finals is based on individual merits and has nothing to do with being first place in any group.”

The class group was struck dumb. Fu Songhua sent a bewildered expression sticker. “Forget about it, forget about it. Let him be. I have to go for the long jump. Anyone without an event is welcome to come and watch! 88*~~~~.”

*T/N: 88: an internet slang which means goodbye. (ba ba sounds similar to bye bye)

The PE teacher greeted them beside the sandbox. “Here, here. Those who have made it to the finals come to report and sign here. I will call your names. No. 2204 Guo Yuanfan?”

“Here!”

“2101 Fu Songhua?

Fu Songhua hurriedly stuffed his phone into the student beside him and loudly shouted, “Here!”

The PE teacher made a tick with a pen and continued with his roll call, “2911 Fang Li?”

A soft voice sounded from behind the crowd, “Here.”

Fu Songhua was greatly alarmed and abruptly looked back, staring at Fang Li, who peeked out from behind the crowd. “Who?”

Fang Li wore a blue-colored sports vest and shorts. His usually tightly wrapped arms and thighs were exposed for the first time, revealing long, smooth lines and perfectly straight legs.

He pursed his lips and his pair of amber pupils looked down at his feet, too timid to look at the boys all around.

He avoided eye contact with Fu Songhua and walked to the PE teacher in quick steps.

Fu Songhua couldn’t figure out what was going on and strode forward several steps to stand at his side, his voice changing in tone. “Y-You, what are you doing here?”

Fang Li finally raised his head. “Yes, ah. I signed up for the long jump. I was in another group just now and even entered the finals. Why?”

Fu Songhua blankly looked at him and wanted to say something but the referee teacher suddenly clapped his hand. “Okay, gather here. We will start the competition. Everyone has three chances. The best results will be taken and we will choose the top six ranks. Does anyone have a question?”

“No!” ten boys lively shouted while doing stretches and preparatory moves.

“Okay. The first athlete gets ready. 2204 first jump. 2101 get ready.”

Fu Songhua couldn’t deal with Fang Li anymore and rushed to the preparatory jumping area, distractedly looking around.

“Sports representative, come here!” Several Class 1’s boys and girls repeatedly waved their hands at him and their voices were earth-shatteringly loud, making him feel a little annoyed.

Damn, why were the people in Class 9 so bad? Why was there nobody coming to watch Fang Li’s match?

“Big Liu, have you seen the people from Class 9?” he whispered to the boy following beside him.

That boy was the one he sent out to ask around for more information. “I was about to tell you, sports representative! I’ve been looking around. Their class is simply weird and so disorganized!”

That boy was excited. “There isn’t anyone to cheer for them in any category. They pitifully ran by themselves. It’s already good if someone passes the water bottles to the runners!”

“Fuck! So miserable?” Fu Songhua casually cursed out. It seemed like there wasn’t a disparity in treatment, since everyone was being treated the same way.

Ruan Qingmu, that guy was indeed unreliable!

A call for his number came from the front and he stood next to the sandbox. When he looked up, he saw Fang Li looking at him with unblinking eyes.

Fu Songhua grinned and smiled at Fang Li, taking a deep breath.

His legs were slightly parted, his knees slightly bent, his arms swung hard, his feet quickly stomped on the ground with the sole of his foot, and he jumped!

The fine sand flew, bringing up a yellow sand mist as his athletic body made a beautiful diagonal line in the air and landed steadily.

The referee teacher quickly measured his result and smiled. “Not bad, ah. This is the first one that passed 3 meters today, 3.02 meters!”

“Ohhh, Old Fu is awesome. Class 1 is awesome!” The cheerleaders from their class immediately shouted and some girls even brandished small flags.

Fu Songhua smilingly spat out a few grains of sand that had splashed into his mouth and raised his head to find Fang Li but saw no sign of him.

When he turned his head again, Fang Li’s figure was already standing at the edge of the preparation area of the sandbox.
