Chapter 49 Potential

At first, they sucked on each other's lips almost aggressively, after separating, not leaving eye contact, Ethan soft said, "I am sorry."

Sasha smiled and initiated the kiss again. This time they embraced each other gently. Feeling her soft body on him, Ethan felt as if a huge weight had been finally lifted from his shoulder.

Remora was stunned as she looked at the pair. So she had seen Ethan's wild side, so she was curious what color he would show with Sasha. She didn't expect it to be so… pure.

White aura revolved around them, looking like mesmerizing snowflakes. They gave the feeling of purity and affection. Actually she had seen lovers kissing before, but this time, the sight before was so beautiful that she fell in love with it.

Remora saw Sasha's friend, Sara, sneakily taking pictures of them. As their eyes met, she froze and kept her mobile in her pocket as if nothing happened. She walked around them, making sure to keep her distance as if she would disturb them.

Sara looked younger than her age, with a slightly short height, cute face, and long hair tied in a ponytail, she gave the feeling of warmness.

Sara came closer and held out her hand, said in a low voice, "Hi. I am Sara."

Remora smiled warmly and shook her hand. "Nice to meet you. I am Remora."

Hearing her name Sara gasped and came even closer, her eyes shining. "Are you Remora Kroft?"

"...yes?"

Sara seemed to have become so excited, but still she didn't make a loud voice. Her face flushed red as she muttered, "I am a big fan of yours."

Remora felt awkward by her brimming energy. She had a fan? For what?

Sara said, "Actually I also wanted to become a police officer but I am not that physically strong or smart so I failed the entrance exam."

"Hehe," She chuckled awkwardly and said, "And then I saw you passing the exam and becoming the youngest officer in Brislane. Mystic control division at that!"

Remora's face turned red in embarrassment. Never had she experienced such a thing before. She didn't know how to respond to her.

Just then her expression changed. She went closer to the pair and started to pull Ethan's hand, shouting, "Ethan! Let her go."

Sara was dumbfounded by the sudden change but then she saw that Ethan seemed to have frozen, his eyes blank. His grip on Sasha was tight so she soon started to suffocate making Sara gasp in horror.

Fortunately, Ethan loosened his grasp, and stood there like a statue. Sara gasped for breath, but seemed to care much about herself as she called out Ethan's name worriedly and tried to go near him again.

But Remora stopped her and softly said, "Don't worry, he's alright. Don't disturb him. It's an awakening moment."

Sasha froze when she heard that. Her racing heart slightly calmed down as she recalled that Ethan was from the drifter's family line.

Drifters were martial artists who could harness their inner power. For them, an awakening moment, also known as enlightenment, was a rare and really important point of life.

Enlightenment was very rare. Someone getting a single one of such moments was a matter of joy.

eαglesnᴏνel The three women then made distance from Ethan, silently looking at him. Remora took out an earbud and inserted it in her ears. She softly said just a few words. "Adept potential Arcanist is having an enlightenment right now. Need assistance."

After a brief hesitation, she added as she looked at the turbulent and vast energies in front of her, "Ethereal potential is also possible."

After a brief silence, a robotic male voice sounded. "The request is approved. Assistance arriving in a few minutes."

Remora had given Ethan the potential of 'Adept' based on what she observed. The Mystics, as they were called, were categorized based on various factors such as the impact of their powers on the environment and people, their origin, and any potential side effects. Rarity also played a crucial role in their categorization.

The order of Mystic categorization ranged from Ade, Aco, Ethe, to Otherly. Once a person's category was recorded in the world council, they usually remained in the same category. The world council meticulously measured and estimated the powers of each Mystic using Lexa, a high-tech technology that incorporated thousands of years of research and development.

The data of the Mystics was stored in one of the world's safest servers, accessible only to a select few in the top echelons of the world council. Despite being categorized, it was still possible for a Mystic to progress to higher levels. However, the journey was arduous, and the difficulty level increased with each new category.

Aco were the starting point for all mystics, just beginning their training and learning to control their powers. They possessed limited abilities, which were not yet fully developed and often uncontrollable.

Aco had minimal impact on the environment or people around them, with their powers being weak and generally unnoticed. They were susceptible to side effects such as fatigue, headaches, or even unintended consequences.

Ade were more advanced mystics who had gained greater control over their powers. They possessed more potent abilities, which could impact the environment and people around them significantly.

Ade had a deeper understanding of their powers and could use them with fewer side effects. They required more training and experience than Aco and were much rarer.

Eth were a rare and powerful class of mystics, with abilities that could have profound effects on both people and the environment. They had mystical or supernatural powers that were often complex, requiring a high level of control and skill to use effectively.

However, their powers could also have significant side effects, such as mental instability or physical deterioration. Eth were highly respected and revered among mystics and their powers sought after by many.

Otherly mystics were the highest level of mystics, possessing incredible powers that transcended the physical world. They had unparalleled effects on both people and the environment, with abilities beyond comprehension.

They required immense control and training to use their powers effectively, and their abilities could come with unintended consequences or side effects that were difficult to predict. Otherly mystics were exceptionally rare and were treated as the most important people of the world.

Remora had already seen many of Ethan's abilities  and having so many powers was already rare. He was both a mystic as well as a drifter, in short an Arcanist. Now seeing the vast amount of  energy surrounding him, she wasn't sure anymore. In the end, they would have to use Lexa.

Thinking about the categorization, Remora couldn't help but recall the unwritten rule. A sapient could awaken a power after a traumatic experience also known as trigger event. This was classified information and strictly maintained by the mystic control division.

Of course, after so many years there were rumors but the world council had already laid out 'proofs' that trauma wouldn't give superpowers.

Otherwise, the death rate would just increase, threatening the world order. Remora took a deep breath and thought about the person who had burned the house. She would definitely catch that person.

The culprit had left a message on the wall scrawled in blood: "Let's see if you awaken something."
