736 A joke before the honorable life and death begins

“Hearing the words’ twin swords made me recall a pair of twin dancers who visited the royal court and performed an enchanting dual-blade dance.”

“Their intricate movements charmed everyone, no matter of their gender. I was one of them. Ho ho...”

“But all good things come to an end. Both women stayed in the city. Later a rumor of their pregnancy roamed through the higher nobles.”

“Ahem... Long story short, after watching the sisters dance, my son and his friend fell in love at first sight. They courted the pregnant women and later became an inseparable couple. All of this happened in the span of less than a month.”

“Does that mean your granddaughter has family members in Berlucia city?” The king asked. Anna and Karta nodded curiously.

Luciano gently shook his head. “Like how my son and his wife passed away, his friend, his wife, and their newly born daughter passed away tragically. Furthermore, my son’s friend’s family disowned him. I am the only family member left who accepts my granddaughter, Ester Lionheart.”

The king, Anna, Bilka, and Karta, were shocked to hear the families of both dancers were dead. It made them believe Ester was blessed with great luck for being the only one alive and having a great-grandfather.

“I am sorry if the subject brought bad memories.” The king told Luciano in an apologetic manner. Anna and Karta also expressed sadness.

Anna treated Luciano as her long-distance uncle. She disliked the fact Luciano wasn’t as cheerful as he usually is.

.....

On the other hand, Karta was his student. She feared Luciano was never reveal anything about his son and his son’s friend’s tragic deaths.

Knowing Luciano kept such a thing a secret made Karta worry there were more things she was not being told. She wondered what she could do the make the old man talk.

Luciano moved his head to look at the field. “The sword was the only thing I could retrieve as no one risked taking an ordinary-looking sword with a low price value.”

“Now, the sword returned to its family. I guess Ester is happy to have the sword and learn about her grandfather. Hehe.” Anna said before pleasantly giggling, happy to hear the sad, tragic story had a happy ending.

Luciano gently shook his head. “My granddaughter does not know who I really am or whose sword it was.”

The king, Anna, Bilka, and Karta, stared blankly at Luciano. They couldn’t believe Luciano met with his granddaughter without revealing his identity or the identity of the sword’s previous owner.

“Ladies and gentlemen. On is the time for the Lionheart team to make their appearance. They have registered without using a single slave while having only one familiar to provide aid.”

“Yes. Everyone heard me correctly. The Lionheart team will consist of Vincent Lionheart, Ester Lionheart, Lupa Lionheart, Mimi Lionheart, and Awa Lionheart.”

“The man who is surrounded by concubines will compete alongside his concubines to prove his version of the truth will be chosen by the dragon gods.”

“However, there are more concubines sitting on the Lionheart team’s side. There is also his legal wife, Baroness Lilith Lionheart. She is the daughter of the truthful lion who is the owner of the highly rumored up-and-coming hide and pelt clothing company.”

Leonis looked at Teresa. “Did you make a deal with the commentator?” He curiously asked.

“Yes. I promised him a fifty percent discount on his first ten orders.” Teresa explained with a sly smirk.

“Hmm...” Leonis felt a little betrayed. Because of his curse, the less he knows, the longer his life will be.

Lilith overheard what her mother told her father. She became impressed by her mother’s ability to turn a situation in her favor.

‘I will request finical management lessons from mother after this pain in the ass event ends.’ Lilith thought while faintly grinning.

Vincent had Kazumi and the very busy Maid Xu to help him with finical management, but she knew they were all busy doing other things. Vincent trained while Kazumi needed a body to help. Similarly, Maid Xu had too much on her plate.

With the addition of Mirey, Lilith understood it was time to step up her game. She needed to become a pillar of the Lionheart family and demand compensation from Vincent.

The thought of Vincent accepting her demands in her office made Lilith blush. The steamy thoughts were making her glasses fog.

“Sister... are you sick?” Iris worriedly asked.

*Gasp* “Ahem. I was thinking a lot about this situation.” Lilith glanced at Mirey and placed her attention on her by saying, “I was wondering if we should let Mirey have a romantic night...”

“Humph!” Mirey crossed her arms. “I need no man.”

“Plow is sad.” *Pho...*

“Sad? Why?” Mirey questioned after looking down at Plow sitting on her lap.

“Plow wants Vincent Vincent to be warm. Plow is sad to hear Jun Jun will not make Plow’s bed warm.” *Pho...*

Mirey understood what Plow meant by making Vincent warm. She peeked at Iris, Lilith, Sofy, and Sakura with her head covered. The gazes landing on her made her blush.

“Ladies and gentlemen. The Lionheart team will be making their appearance next.” While the commentator was speaking, the door on the Lionheart team’s side opened.

“Ladies and gentlemen. Baron Vincent Lionheart has appeared. Following behind him are his four alluring concubines. Even though they are of different races, the man leading them does not mind one bit what is currently in everyone’s thoughts.”

“Furthermore, I have fresh information about the five combatants making their appearance. Apparently, Baron Vincent Lionheart came from the church. Specifically, after marrying three new concubines.”

The audience became astounded. Vincent chose to marry women and have them participate instead of acquiring slaves to fight for him.

On the other hand, Darwin was surprised to discover Vincent choosing to marry more strong women as if he was building a platoon.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Anna asked.

“Sorry, but I didn’t think your highness was interested in who Vincent married or not. I am not like Lucas. I report to his majesty all the time. I did not know her highness wanted to know.” Karta said as her excuse.

“Ho ho. It looks like the little princess is interested in a man...”

“No, she is not.” The king interrupted Luciano from teasing him. The king gave the impression he was not going to let his daughter get married while he was still alive.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the one familiar participating has appeared. Based on the registry, it is a special variant of the plant familiars. Apparently, it can live longer, can consume other plants to grow, and will listen to any order it is given.”

The audience became very curious about Zero. They saw a small bipedal plant walking like a human, yet it was too small to assist. When compared to the five large bear familiars on the opposing team, Zero was on the field to provide toothpicks.

Vincent, Ester, Lupa, Mimi, Awa, and Zero arrived at the center of the field. Now that everyone could see them from all corners, the commentator began with the introduction.

“Ladies and gentlemen. I will begin with the introductions.”

“First is Baron Vincent Lionheart. A noble who lost his family and title at a young age from a demonic beast’s attack. After being treated with dozens of antidotes and surviving, he awakened a unique class. He considers it to be a bloodline class since his blood overcame the infections of the demonic beast.”

The commentator looked at Darwin. “As the headmaster of the student I just mentioned, can we know your thoughts?”

“What is there to think?” Darwin responded. He waited for a minute and continued with a quickly thought fake backstory, “We, humans, need to adapt to our surroundings to survive. Baron Vincent Lionheart was fortunate the dragon gods were looking in his direction and oversaw the young boy adapt and survive.”

“Ladies and gentlemen. I am speechless after hearing about the past of Baron Vincent Lionheart. Yet, as the commentator, I need to keep talking as much as I breathe. Thus, I will continue with the next team member.”

“Hmm... apparently, I was requested to continue with Lupa Lionheart, or she will complain for not being the first.”

Vincent and Ester laughed out loud while looking at Lupa frowning. Mimi giggled with a sly smile on her face, while Awa smiled and giggled after hearing and watching the three around her act this way.

“Humph!” Lupa crossed her arms, yet her tail gently wagged. “I am the best girl Lupa. There was no need to write that. The human was going to talk about me without my mate’s request.”

Lilith also couldn’t hold herself from laughing out loud. Iris, Sakura, and Sofy beside her giggled, while Mirey revealed a faint smile, and Plow frowned because of the attention Lupa was gathering.

“Does Baron Vincent Lionheart not find my granddaughter as his top woman?” Luciano said to himself with a slight wrinkly frown on his face.

“Hehe. It is not like that uncle sage. Lupa loves to compete to be the best and the number one.” Anna explained in a shaky voice. She was trying to hold back from giggling.

The king became interested in what his daughter explained. He wondered how Vincent, the man his daughter spent a lot of time begging to accept her request about sponsorship, was feeling right now.

The king wondered if Vincent and his wives were not nervous as this wasn’t the time for jokes. The judgment by combat was a serious life-and-death honorable fight. It made him wonder where their confidence in victory stems from.
