CH 33

It has been about a month since we went out to subjugate orcs, and summer has arrived in the village.

I am still busy catching Forest Mouse, gathering medicinal herbs, training in staff arts, and practicing magic.

Well, I spend most of the day along the cool stream, so I guess I am better off than those in the village.

I leave home early in the morning while it is still cool and does not return to the village until the evening unless I have something to do with Mr. Zeol.

When I told Mr. Zeol about this pattern of life, he was quite envious.

Mr. Zeol, who is employed by the village head, cannot leave the village in case something happens.

Probably out of revenge, he has become stricter in my staff arts training, but that’s what I want.

I wrote back to Horacio, but I haven’t received a letter since then.

I wonder if he has no time to write to me because of the rigorous training.

Well, no news is also a sign of his safety, so I am waiting patiently.

The method of transporting prey had been bothering me, but I easily found a solution.

It was a simple matter of using [Shield] and [Step], into [Roller].

The steps that would serve as footholds were wide enough and sturdy enough to allow Mr. Zeol and me to move around when we met up with him on a rainy day.

The shield is strong enough not to break even if Mr. Zeol slashes at it with his sword.

After that, if you add a bar between these two that will become a roller, I can easily roll even heavy objects.

Moreover, since scaffolding can be set up freely, it does not matter if there is a hole in the road or a river flowing in the middle of the road.

If it’s just to push it over the shield, if you make full use of physical strengthening magic, you should be able to do something about it.

First of all, as a trial, I carried out a log from the mountain.

I pushed the log, which looked to be more than five times my weight, up onto the [Shield], which had [Step] and a [Roller] already in place, using body enhancement magic.

Then I unfastened the [Shield] and the [Roller] and moved it, it began to move with less force than I had expected.

It was a positive that it started to move, but the addition of the next [Roller] was delayed, and the [Shield] fell on top of the [Step].

In this case, I had to start all over again from the beginning.

This time, I was careful about the timing of the creation of [Roller], but the log tumbled down from the top of the [Shield].

Naturally, I had to start all over again.

Next time, I fixed the log to the [Shield] with void magic and moved it, taking care to timely create the [Roller] in, and this time, it worked.

With this, it looked like I could carry the subjugated orcs by myself.

As I pushed forward the fallen tree, something occurred to me.

I thought that if I could use the slope of the mountain to make the steps that were the footholds go downhill, I would be able to carry the load without pushing.

I thought that even if the speed increased a little, there should be no problem as long as I was careful about making the [Roller] and the angle of the slope of [Step], but …… I was naive.

“Oh, next [Roller], next [Roller]… Oh no, too fast, [Roller], [Roller], [Roller]… Uwaaa!!!” (Nyango)

There was no way I could set up the [Roller] and manage the slope all at once, and the speed was too fast, and the log went flying.

The log, gaining momentum, rolled down the slope without slowing down, finally coming to a stop after clearing several young trees along the way.

“Phew… I’m glad there’s no one here.” (Nyango)

In the end, installing one [Roller] after another was too much trouble, so we decided to build a cart.

It was a simple structure with just a base, shaft, and rollers, but once I decided on the shape and practiced, I could use it anytime and save myself the trouble of placing the koro.

Now all I need to take care of is the slope of the [Step], and thinking about it, this is like the slide when I ate the goblin’s heart.

With the slope being kept low and the bank on the curves, I was able to carry it safely from the mountain to the village.

In the evening, when returning from the river to the village, I would ride the cart and slide down the valley over the stream.

It was good practice for magic, and above all, it was easy.

I also thought about how to deal with the monsters.

As for the bloodletting, it would be basically the same as in the case of the Forest Mouse.

I would tie its hind legs and hang it and cut the thick blood vessels in its neck to drain its blood, but if I were to kill an orc, I would probably use a[Death Choker], so it would have lost a lot of blood when I killed it.

If possible, I would like to hang the orc right away, but there are no trees growing that conveniently, so I made a prototype of a hanging stand as well.

The stand, however, was made with void magic and fixed in place, so it would not move unless it was destroyed, so I just fixed a thick rod in the air.

However, that alone was not enough, so I made a pulley.

The pulley was based on the experience of making a cart, so it was relatively easy to make, and most importantly, it can lift heavy objects with ease.

Currently, the rope is made from ordinary rope, but eventually, I intend to be able to make this with void attribute magic.

There is one thing I must not forget when I hunt, bleed, and dismantle the prey.

When you hunt, drain the blood out of the animal, or dismember it, there is one thing you must not forget to do: make a bonfire and let the smoke block the smell of blood and the presence of fire waft through the air.

“Fufu, if I just want to make fire, I won’t need magic tools anymore.” (Nyango)

I have mastered making magic circles using void attribute magic, for lighting a fire and producing water.

I have also mastered the wind magic circle, although I am still practicing adjusting power and converting them to offensive magic.

Using void attribute magic, I create a cylindrical container, filling it with fallen leaves and dead branches, and finally create a small fire magic circle at the bottom.

Once I saw that smoke was beginning to rise, I also made sure to extinguish the fire with the water magic tool magic circle.

“After that, should I dig a hole?” (Nyango)

When removing blood, I need to dig a hole to prevent the blood from spreading, but this one is tricky.

It is very difficult to dig a deep hole with a catkin’s body.

“In short, as long as the blood doesn’t spread, why don’t I just get a bucket or a trough?” (Nyango)

With void magic, I could create a container to hold the blood and destroy it when I finish my work and leave.

Thinking in sequential order, first, after killing the orcs, we would make a bonfire.

Next, the orcs would be hung to drain their blood, and all that would be needed would be a hanging rod, pulley, rope, and a container to catch the blood.

When the draining is complete, the container is moved out of the way and the orc is lowered.

“Ah, at this time, if possible, should I put it on the cart?” (Nyango)

If I make [Step] and a cart and put the orc down on it, it will save me the trouble of putting it back up.

With the procedure settled, I set about making the ropes before I began the hunt.

I would use it to lift up the prey for the bloodletting, and there is no better item for trapping than an invisible rope.

Compared to actual rope, I prepared several types of ropes, ones made based on wire ropes and climbing ropes from my previous life.

The only thing left to do now seems to be to actually hunt and rework the problem areas, but since orcs seem to be a tough task out of the blue, I decided to hunt beasts to gain experience.

MY first kill was a young stag.

I was practicing staff arts in the woods near the upper reaches of the stream when I noticed it from a distance.

I interrupted my practice and moved further upstream, there the deer descended into the stream.

It seemed to have come to drink water.

I approached the deer as it descended into the stream and began to drink, moving with [Step], and it noticed me at a distance of about 30 meters.

The deer raised its head and looked at me warily.

“Sorry, your appearance is like asking me to kill you. [Death Choker Type RR].” (Nyango)

Type RR is a version with the removal of the ring that connected the Type R spearheads.

Made with void magic, it would break and fizzle out entirely if it was severely damaged.

When I used the Type R against the Orc General, one of the spearheads was broken, and so the whole thing was broken.

So now, I made the eight spears form independently.

This way, if one spear was broken, the other seven would remain intact.

The deer, about to resume drinking, jumped, startled by the stinging pain, and thrust its neck deeply into the spear on the opposite side.

After that, every time it tried to escape the pain, it plunged into another spear and its knees buckled, spraying blood from its neck, and then stopped moving.

After confirming that the deer is dead and making a bonfire, the hind legs are tied and it is hung above the stream.

After waiting for the blood to drain and placing it on a cart, I made a course down the stream.

I headed for a deep pool where the current slowed down, and I tied a normal rope to the deer’s hind legs and let it sink.

I heard that the body temperature of a dead animal rises immediately after death and that the meat tastes better if it is cooled in the river until the heat is removed.

The next morning, before returning to get the deer, I called out to Mr. Zeol.

I had established a way to bring the deer back to the village, but I didn’t think I would be able to dismantle it by myself.

“Oh, you’re bringing it all the way here by yourself?” (Zeol)

“Yes, but can you help me with the dismantling? Of course, I will share the meat with you. I mean, if I start dismantling the meat here, it will be another banquet.” (Nyango)

“Yes, I will negotiate for some money from the village chief.” (Zeol)

“Thank you.” (Nyango)

After talking to him, I returned to the river depths, hoisted the deer with a pulley, and put it on a cart.

“Then let’s go!” (Nyango)

Atsuka Village has no tall buildings, poles, or power lines like in Japan, so as long as I am careful about the degree of the slope, I could set a nonstop course that would take me over the stream, down to the village, over the fields, and into the village chief’s garden.

As I glided through the air on the cart with the deer, the villagers working in the fields looked up in amazement.

“Hahaha, you really surprised me. I didn’t expect you to come flying through the air.” (Zeol)

“Actually, rather than flying, I rolled down.” (Nyango)

I explained to him how [Step] and the cart worked, and he asked if he could get on it too.

Mr. Zeol, if you’re so bored, you might as well go back to being an adventurer.
