Chapter 19

Chapter 19: Show your sincerity

“Ma, I am not daydreaming anymore. Just stop throwing those things at me,” complained Zi Han still in a half squat by the wall. The light thud of marbles hitting his body stopped for a moment as Zi Xingxi placed her legs flat on the coffee table crossing them one over the other at the ankles.

The ticking sound of the previous marble bouncing on the floor stopped as it rolled on the floor before colliding into eight other marbles on the ground. She skillfully rolled another marble in between her fingers with a crooked smile and said, “I know. I just discovered how fun it is watching you yelp.”

Zi Han, ‘QAQ’

Was it too late to exchange his mother with someone else? Too bad he didn’t have a receipt even if he wanted to. “So what you are trying to say is that you are having fun bullying your son by throwing marbles at him while he is in a half squat position?” he asked the sarcasm in that statement as real as day.

Her fingers froze for a moment as she wore an expression like she was seriously considering it. After a long silence, she said, “Um yah... my face is already like this because of you so why can’t I have a little fun bullying you? Now quit whining and hold still.”

“Ouch... it’s as though you had a son just to bully them,” cried Zi Han as another marble was thrown hitting his thigh. When he bought those on starnet he didn’t think they would be weaponized. Leave it to his mother to turn something harmless into a hazard that should be banned.

At the time he bought them, he thought they looked pretty and nice to look at. Who knew they would also be nice to throw so much so that his mother wouldn’t stop. The sad part was that she still had an entire crystal bowl full of them.

.....

Zi Xingxi was currently holding a purple one with shimmering sparkles inside aiming it at her son’s leg with her tongue sticking out at the corner of her lips when her light brain made a buzzing sound before it was forcibly connected.

An A5 size hologram popped up in front of her with her father’s livid face. “Dad,” she exclaimed as she placed her feet down in a hurry.

“DRUGS, DRUGS!!! THAT BRAT GOT CAUGHT UP IN DRUGS AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ME!!! WHERE IS HE? I AM GOING TO STRANGLE HIM TO DEATH!!!” yelled Zi Feiji with his roar shaking the apartment to its core and scaring the birds outside the window.

Zi Han who was half squatting at the end of the corridor was so terrified that he wanted to run into his room and hide under the bed. At this rate, he would rather take his chances with the boogeyman who is said to lurk under beds.

Heck, if it came to it he would shove the bogeyman from under the bed and occupy the entire hiding spot just to get away from that man roaring through his mother’s light brain. That’s how terrifying that voice bellowing through the light brain was. They had never met but his fear for his grandfather was almost instinctual.

His knees subconsciously trembled as he waved his hands frantically gesturing to his mom to say he wasn’t around.

Zi Xingxi was rubbing her ear that was aching from the roar when she saw her son waving his arms around like the wacky wavy inflatable tube guy. She chortled before saying, “He is here doing a half squat as punishment. He says he wants to talk to you.”

Zi Han, “???”

Was this woman even his mother or he was picked up from the street. He exaggeratedly mouthed, “No no no no,” but his mother tossed another marble at him and mouthed,

“Don’t you dare move.”

“Who wants to talk to that stupid brat? That annoying imbecile__,” said Zi Feiji only for Zi Xingxi to finish his sentence for him,

“Marshal Yi.” How did she know? It was because there was only one person her father addressed as an imbecile and could get him this angry was Marshal Yi.

“Yes him. Argh, I am so angry. He is disrespectful waltzing in here like he owns the place. And you, I told you to stop smoking that poisonous thing but you never listen. You left a freaking cigarette bud, a cigarette bud at the freaking crime scene. How could you be that stupid?”

Zi Xingxi, “....”

Now that she was the one getting scolded she wasn’t laughing anymore. She had to change the subject before her ears fall off from being yelled at by her dad.

“What does he want? I have already dealt with that Yi Feng person’s supplier. The marshal should be thanking me for cleaning up this mess,” she said veering the topic in a different direction.

Zi Feiji tsked as he slumped back into his chair. Tugging at his collar as though feeling uncomfortable he said, “He wants you to show your sincerity otherwise he will dig into this and find Han Han.”

Zi Xingxi glanced over at the AP sniper rifle on the coffee table and asked in a nonchalant tone, “Who does he want dealt with?”

“Whoever that rascal you killed worked for. He wants the head of the snake. Do me a favour and package the corpse in a box tied with a red bow and deliver it to his door. That should teach him not to fuck with me. Oh, and add two more hours on that brat’s punishment. Argh, my hair is about to fall off from anger....”

“Mm, I will take care of it. Just don’t worry about it. I will call you when it’s done,” she replied before getting up to her feet.

“Okay, call me when it’s done. I will send you the footage of that imbecile and his son. Maybe you can see something I missed,” said Zi Feiji followed by the tone of the video call getting hung up.

Zi Xingxi took out a small hard shell black suitcase and placed it on the table her expression much more serious than before. Zi Han who had listened in on the entire conversation bit his lip hesitating to ask. After gathering his courage he finally asked, “Are you leaving?”

Zi Xingxi clicked something on the barrel of the AP sniper rifle while saying, “Unzip the suitcase for me.” Zi Han finally sighed as he stretched out his legs to get rid of the stiffness in his thighs. He hurriedly unzipped it as his mother said,

“You wait here obediently and__.”

“I want to go with you. This is my mess and it’s only natural that I come along,” interjected Zi Han with a determined look on his face. For a moment Zi Xingxi didn’t know how to react. She knew she would eventually have to expose her son to such things but... in her heart he was still her little baobei.

She didn’t want him to grow up yet but since her baobei was old enough to involve himself in such terrible things then he was not so innocent anymore.
