Chapter 90

90 I am a manly man

“Ma...,” he mumbled afraid to speak aloud. All that arrogance that he displayed in front of Yi Chen was wiped away. He now resembled a pup with its ears drooped.

“I am coming,” she said before kissing her father’s cheek and walking to the stairs, “Stop urging me you brat. Didn’t I tell you not to watch it? But what did you say then? I am a manly man.”

Zi Han didn’t care that he was being mocked. She could scold him all she wants as long as she was coming along otherwise he won’t be able to sleep. That ghost was something straight out of a nightmare.

“Can we watch an animation before bed,” he suggested so he can dilute the horror stuck in his brain.

“Sure but I will pick what to watch,” she said, and as the two figures disappeared Zi Feiji asked the steward who was supervising the housekeeper robot, “I think my grandson is too pampered or maybe it’s just me.”

“How can he not be? He is the only grandchild of the Zi family,” said the steward smilingly. He believed the young sir deserved the best especially after losing his father. The kid could have been in the palace being treated like royalty but that right was robbed from him. Hence the old steward vowed to make his life as comfortable as possible.

While Zi Feiji was thinking of weaning Han off Zi Xingxi, Lin Ruoxi who had finished her night routine walked over and sat on the bed. As she rubbed the cream on her hands she asked her husband who was lying in bed,

“Do you know Zi Feiji’s granddaughter?”

Marshal Yi who had already closed his eyes opened them abruptly wondering where she was going with this. What granddaughter?

.....

The guy only had a daughter and a grandson. For years he didn’t even know that Zi Feiji had a grandson. He only found out recently and now there was a granddaughter?

“No, why?” he asked while shuffling to look in her direction.

“Wouldn’t it be a good idea to get Chen Chen to have a date-,” she said cautiously but her husband interjected immediately,

“No..... not happening. Even if we could get along that would only make the prime ministers anxious and when they are anxious they will make trouble.”

He didn’t even know if this granddaughter existed nor did he want to know. But he was certain of one thing he would never let his son go anywhere near the Zi family. It would not only put the Yi family at risk but also the Zi family.

Two powerful families uniting as one could only bring trouble so no he would never agree. Besides that Zi Xingxi really hated him to the core. If it weren’t that they still needed the Bloodgarde he would distance himself from her.

Lin Ruoxi felt incredibly upset. She knew she was overreaching but he didn’t even hear her out. She knew her son well. He was interested in that girl but her husband wouldn’t agree. This was especially troublesome. Feeling upset she lay on her side with her back to him indicating how upset she was.

Marshal Yi felt flabbergasted seeing this. Was this girl so special that his wife would ignore him? They had an agreement to never go to bed angry but for this matter, she would ignore him.

He might have to pay Zi Feiji a visit and make him produce this granddaughter of his and see if she was worth all this trouble.

Feeling unresigned he reached over to slide his arm on Lin Ruoxi’s waist but before he could even touch her she angrily yanked the quilt and covered herself from head to toe leaving the Marshal uncovered.

Marshal Yi sighed as he lay on his back. After much thought, he got out of bed, put on his slippers, and walked out of the bedroom. Lin Ruoxi hmphed before closing her eyes seeming very upset.

Marshal Yi stood outside his son’s bedroom door for a while. He didn’t even know what he was doing here. Perhaps it was because he wanted to understand what his wife was talking about.

He wanted to understand what happened at that wedding and why his wife was asking. He might appear cold and aloof to everyone but deep down he was a hopeless romantic. He loved his wife so much that he couldn’t bear it when she was angry with him.

After standing there like a statue sighing nonstop, Yi Chen opened the door and said, “Father if you sigh one more time you might pass out.”

Marshal Yi didn’t say anything he just walked past him only for his steps to halt when he saw the inkstone on the knee height table and paper carefully spread out. His brow furrowed as he turned to look back and ask, “What are you doing?”

Yi Chen straightened his face and replied in a calm tone, “I am practicing?”

Marshal Yi turned to look at the table again. This time he studied the characters carefully his brow furrowed. Was this his new hobby or something?

Usually, at this time Yi Chen would either be practicing in the basement training room or fighting matches on the virtual simulator. But now he was practicing calligraphy in the middle of the night. This was indeed odd.

Yi Chen suddenly felt a little nervous watching his father walking around the table like that. That is because right at the corner was the gift Zi Han gave him. Looking at those precious things motivated him while he worked. Turns out leaving them out wasn’t a good idea.

“Did you need something?” he asked drawing his father’s attention. Marshal Yi looked at him his expression complicated. Was this kid trying to get rid of him? Since it was already late he went straight to the point.

“Your mother mentioned Zi Feiji has a granddaughter. Do you know anything about it?”

Yi Chen’s body stiffened caught by surprise. Why would his mother mention this to his father? What were her intentions?

Sensing his son’s confusion the Marshal explained, “She said she wants to set you up on a date with her this is why I am asking. Did you tell her you like that girl?”

Yi Chen, ‘Fuck!’
