Chapter 127

127 Trigger-happy hero

The pain of losing someone you know is much worse than the grief of losing someone you don’t know. But the truth is that the two can’t be compared. Losing a parent after having known them is incomparable to when you hadn’t known them.

That’s for those who hadn’t had the chance to see them and don’t even have memories with that special person. Such was the case for Zi Han. He knew his father loved him and he was looking forward to finally meeting his son but tragedy struck before that could ever happen.

Unlike others, he didn’t even have a video recording, a voice recording, or an image to refer to. He didn’t even know what his father’s name was. Thus this pendant was the only thing he had. The only thing that belonged to his father that he owned.

Losing it was equivalent to tearing apart his heart thus he couldn’t live without it. It was because of this that he fought so hard to regain control of his body.

Despite the pain, Zi Han broke through his limit freeing himself. Slowly his frozen fingers regained some mobility. Soon after that he quickly regained control of his right arm.

With a ferocious gaze powerful enough to sear through those listless black eyes he abruptly raised his hand and aimed a semi-automatic handgun at the creature after grabbing it from his holster. His expression turned deadly and with a loud bang, he fired three shots.

But the outcome was unexpected. As though controlled by an invincible shield the bullets froze mid-air before they fell back to the ground with a loud clank.

Zi Han’s breath stagnated as his entire body froze stiff not from fright but because he couldn’t move anymore. Looking straight into those soulless eyes his blood ran cold. He might have been frightened half to death but his expression remained fierce and as he glanced over at those claws touching his father’s pendant his anger erupted.

He struggled to speak and because he was restrained his speech was stiff and forced. “It’s..... mi-mine... you..... fucker,” he said and the humanoid creature’s claws paused like it had understood what he was saying.

.....

It stiffly moved its head and there was a flash of red in its eyes before it raised its hand. With its palm hovering above Zi Han’s forehead its obsidian eyes turned even darker.

Zi Han’s breathing quickened as his body trembled. He had a very bad premonition at this point. He didn’t know what this thing was planning to do but whatever it was it couldn’t be anything good.

Breathing heavily with his pupils quivering he helplessly watched on as red luminous light seeped out of the ugly skin of the creature and invade his mind.

In all his years Zi Han had never heard of such a torturous method neither did he ever think it would happen to him. The strange mental power seized his mind and as it penetrated his nerves and brain cells Zi Han’s eyes turned bloodshot with green veins pulsing at his temples.

It was like someone had stabbed a thousand needles into his mind and pushed them down killing him slowly. Unable to endure it he closed his eyes as a tear fell at the corner of his eye.

He wanted his mum and wanted to call out to her but he could speak. As the torture continued his face turned ghastly white with his mind blurring. He feared that he was going to die here in a dirty alley.

The stabbing pain penetrated his core and as the invasive force made its final strike that could cripple the youth for the rest of his life, the humanoid creature suddenly froze. For a second Zi Han hovered at the thin boundary between life and death.

Confused he opened his eyes with his tear-stained eyelashes fluttering. He soon regretted opening his eyes because he was directly in the creature’s line of sight. The two locked eyes for a moment and because its eyes were like a dark void he couldn’t see anything.

It suddenly retracted its mental power which left Zi Han vexed. Before he could try and understand what was happening his entire body was suddenly shrouded in a vibrant fiery aura.

Gritting his teeth he tried to fight it but his taut nerve suddenly relaxed as a sense of familiarity enveloped him. The agonizing pain that almost tore him apart vanished spontaneously.

‘What the fuck is going on?’ he thought as his muscles relaxed. His knees softened and as though made out of jelly he collapsed to the ground. The humanoid creature quickly caught him and slowly settled him down its gaze transfixed on Zi Han’s face.

Zi Han wanted to ask it why it was doing this but before he could utter a single word shots rang out from behind them. The person was especially trigger-happy firing round after round targeting the humanoid creature.

His intent was clear as day. He wanted to end this ugly creature’s life. Yi Chen emptied the clips from both his semi-automatic handguns. With a click, he released the empty ones. Before they hit the ground he had already reloaded his weapons in one swift move.

With a murderous aura surrounding his body, he moved forward with his fingers on the triggers. The humanoid creature slowly stood up with the bullets failing to penetrate its protective shield.

Yi Chen’s lips twitched as he tossed the semi-automatics to the ground and grabbed an incindary shotgun. With a loud bang, he fired at the humanoid creature but before it could hit his target the creature grinned slyly as a portal opened behind it.

It was instantly sucked into the portal and vanished leaving behind the clanking sounds of bullets falling to the ground. Yi Chen was pissed off having failed to catch and eliminate his target but he was more concerned for Zi Han so he rushed over lifting him up to check for injuries.

Zi Han pressed his palm on his forehead as he took deep breaths. His eyes were still red and swollen like he had cried. In fact, he had actually cried. His tears were flowing down his cheeks on their own. If one were to ask him what he was crying for he wouldn’t be able to tell.

“Are, are you okay?” asked Yi Chen as he touched Zi Han’s shoulder with his trembling hand.

Zi Han bit his lip before replying, “I am fine. I am just a little weak that’s all. Help me up.”

Yi Chen nodded his head before helping Zi Han up. Zi Han leaned his back on the wall as he pointed at the guns on the ground. “You have to pick those up? If we forget them here will get into deep shit,” he said while pressing his forehead with his fingers.
