Chapter 144

144 MelonEaterZi

Three minutes later they reached the fashion district. Zi Han pulled back his sleeve and tapped on his light brain sending a message to his grandfather.

Zi Feiji who was shopping on Starnet constantly putting this and that in and out of the cart while adding on to the long wish list on his account saw a notification pop up on the floating screen blocking his view of the online store.

When he saw it was a message from Zi Han he stopped biting his thumb and opened it.

HandsomeHan: Grandpa, I am hanging out with a friend after school.

HandsomeHan: Please tell Steward Lu to be at ease.

HandsomeHan: I will be back home in two hours.

“What friend?” blurted out Zi Feiji a little confused.

ProudGrandpaZi: What friend?

Unfortunately for him, Zi Han didn’t respond thus he could only ask the mother.

.....

ProudGrandpaZi: What friend is Zi Han hanging out with?

It seemed Zi Xingxi was busy because she didn’t respond immediately. For a moment it showed that the message had been read but there was no typing bubble floating on the chat interface. Both of them weren’t responding to him which was a little infuriating.

Just as he minimized the chat screen and went back to his shopping spree another notification popped up. He hastily opened it but when he saw the contents of the message he had three more question marks floating on his face.

MelonEaterZi: (hehehe cat snickering.gif)

Zi Feiji’s eyes narrowed as he replied;

ProudGrandpaZi: (confused scratching had dog.gif)

ProudGrandpaZi: What does your username mean.

MelonEaterZi: it means I am minding my own business.

Zi Feiji had no idea what sort of medicine his daughter had taken today. The woman was speaking in riddles and being mysterious. Choosing not to care much Zi Feiji continued shopping like a shopaholic of the highest order.

On the other hand, Zi Han was sitting outside a cafe opposite Yi Chen while sipping on his coconut cloud sky smoothie enjoying this rare moment. He never understood why most people hung out after school.

In fact, they had invited him as well but because he didn’t like the company he rarely went. He much preferred being home or training in the virtual simulator challenging people to mech battles.

Now that he had gone out with Yi Chen he suddenly understood that it wasn’t because of the activity but rather who he was doing it with which was fun.

He liked hanging out with Yi Chen very much which is why he had very little resistance towards him even when he was told to stay away. Like a little beetle attracted to the light, he kept scooching over until he was immersed in its brightness.

Zi Han was the type to get along with everyone but had no close friends. The type of close friends he could watch a movie with or go free jumping at the waterfalls of the floating islands with.

It’s not that he couldn’t get close to anyone it’s just that there wasn’t that someone who could make him desire that kind of closeness. But the more he hung out with Yi Chen the more he desired that type of friendship.

He wanted to be close friends with Yi Chen. Maybe it was because the guy had saved him so many times that he was drawn to him like a moth to a flame.

Yi Chen who had his head lowered this entire time looked up and with a warm smile he asked, “Does it taste good?”

Zi Han who had been caught staring wasn’t at all bashful. He sucked on his straw twice before saying, “It tastes better than that bitter medicine in front of you... ugh, it’s torture in a cup.”

Yi Chen, “.....”

“It’s iced coffee.... and it even has milk in it,” replied Yi Chen with a bemused expression. Zi Han’s body shivered in dislike but Yi Chen didn’t let it go.

“Here..... give it a try,” he said while pushing the cup towards Zi Han.

Zi Han looked at that brown liquid with clouds of white floating in it like he was facing an enemy of a thousand years.

“Come on,” said Yi Chen his voice like that of a pervert trying to lure a young girl into doing something immoral.

“But you drank it already,” said Zi Han forgetting that they had done this before three times already.

“*Sigh..... It’s fine.... you don’t have to,” he said pretending to back down. His tone though was like a whimpering puppy denied a treat. As he drew back his cup Zi Han suddenly reached over and grabbed it while saying,

“If it’s bitter I am going to fuckin kill you.”

Yi Chen pressed his lips together suppressing a smile. Things were going in a direction better than he expected, well, that is until he heard Zi Han cursing while throwing sugar packets at him.

“You bastard..... ugh, there is no sugar in it. Ah, it’s so bitter....,” said Zi Han before sucking a large mouthful of his smoothie to wash away the bitter feeling. What made it worse was that it was a triple shot. The milk didn’t help at all.

Yi Chen wanted to apologize but seeing his reaction he couldn’t help himself. For the first time, he laughed out loud stunning Zi Han so much that he was stupefied. That melodious laugh full of mirth was something rare especially when it came from someone like Yi Chen.

Seeing Zi Han’s expression Yi Chen stifled his laughter as he apologized, “I didn’t mean it..... I usually don’t take sugar so I didn’t notice.” Zi Han’s expression relaxed but he still flung another sugar packet at him.

While these two were stuck in their own world a pair of prying eyes appeared out of nowhere. Lin Ruoxi had been cooked up in the house with her two little monsters because of the incident. After a couple of days indoors with these two, she needed to go out for some fresh air.

After leaving them under the care of the housekeeper robot for at least an hour she came here for a quick facial treatment. Who would have thought she would hear a familiar sound that she hadn’t heard in a very long time.

That was none other than her son’s unrestrained laugh but what was he doing here? Like a professional stalker, she sat at the cake shop next to the cafe and concealed herself behind a potted shrub watching them.

She honestly thought he was having a date with a girl behind her back but who would have thought he was hanging out with a boy and that boy’s face was so familiar.

She put on her sunglasses and covered her head with a scarf so she could eavesdrop without getting caught. She knew it was wrong but anyone who could make her son laugh like that truly deserved a trophy and if it was a girl, a ring.
