TL: Moonlit

Lin Su and Su Jin tidied up the miscellaneous items in the yard together and took the opportunity to water the small patch of vegetables they had planted a few days ago.

Compared to the other fully grown fruits and vegetables, this patch of vegetables had just sprouted green shoots.

Lin Su purified the seeds separately. He didn’t know if these fruits and vegetables that started from purified seeds would still contain impurities when they matured.

After finishing their busy work, they both realized that the sky had turned red from the setting sun without them noticing. Su Jin packed up and called for Lin Su to go home, saying, “Tomorrow should be a good day.”

The warm glow of the setting sun reflected on Lin Su’s face as if it was coated with a layer of light honey, making him appear soft and warm.

Su Jin felt that Lin Su had truly grown up. If this child didn’t live in a family like theirs, there would probably be many people doting on him as she grew up.

“Alright, little one, let’s go back and rest.”

After it turned dark here, there were no entertainment activities, so they usually went to sleep early.

Lin Su pushed open the door and in the dimly lit room, William leaned against the edge of the bed with a cold expression, eyes closed. The evening sunlight spilled in through the window, as if it draped a thin layer of golden sand over him, softening his coldness and adding a touch of tenderness. Even the pair of fluffy and alert fox ears on top of his head looked particularly adorable.

Lin Su couldn’t resist the urge and gestured with his fingers, but he restrained himself from touching the other’s ears. He walked over and turned on the lights, instantly replacing the dimness of the room with brightness. Lin Su reached out and pulled the curtains, heading to the bathroom.

Upon hearing the bathroom door close, William opened his eyes. His golden beast eyes swept over the closed door but couldn’t block the sound of water leaking out from inside.

Thinking about what the little female said at the dining table just now, his ears trembled uncontrollably, and his gaze fell on the fox tail lying aside.

William reached out and took the pillow placed there, then laid down on his side, the large fluffy tail perfectly aligned with the bed.

Lin Su finished bathing and came out of the bathroom. The first thing he saw was the large, soft, and fluffy white fox tail scattered on his bedside.

Under the illumination of the light, it reflected a silky silver sheen.

As if sensing his gaze, the previously still tail suddenly curled up, swaying left and right. Although the movement was small and didn’t make a sound, he…saw it!

“Lin Su, quickly go and see your father!” Su Jin’s panicked voice came from outside, abruptly bringing Lin Su, who had already crouched down and reached out, back to his senses. He quickly stood up and opened the door. “What’s going on?”

Seeing Lin Su coming out, Su Jin seemed to instantly find his backbone. “He was perfectly fine just now. We were talking for a while, and suddenly he had a seizure.”

Recently, Kane’s condition improved a lot after eating the purified fruits and vegetables prepared by Lin Su. They even temporarily stopped the sedatives they had originally planned to administer.

But they didn’t expect this to happen again.

Lin Su quickly walked into Su Jin’s room and, upon opening the door, saw Kane on the bed, clutching his head in pain.

Kane was the same age as Su Jin, only in his fifties, which was still considered young according to the lifespan of a beastman of three hundred years.

However, after years of torment from mental disorders, Kane’s temples had already turned white, making him appear much older than Su Jin, who was the same age.

Not far from Kane, a translucent black Doberman lay there convulsing and whimpering. Its once sturdy and robust body now showed visible ribs.

This wasn’t the first time Lin Su had seen Kane’s contracted beast, but it was the first time he had seen it so weak.

Su Jin’s eyes turned red, but he still maintained his composure. Past experiences told him that crying wouldn’t help. In this family, he was the only one who couldn’t collapse. Once he fell, both Kane and Lin Su’s lives would become even more difficult. Now that Lin Su had grown up, they could discuss things together, which was much better than bearing everything alone as before.

Kane pressed his head, glaring at Lin Su with a ferocious and pained expression.

Lin Su regained his focus and didn’t feel afraid. After all, he had experienced the apocalypse, and his mental strength was stronger than that of an average person. However, he didn’t expect that mental disorders would have such a significant impact on males.

With William in front and Cain behind, it was enough to demonstrate that the impact of mental disorders on males was not just a mere statement.

“Female Father, go pick some cherry tomatoes.”

Su Jin quickly walked out upon hearing this, but as he reached the door, he suddenly remembered something and turned to look at Lin Su with concern. “Um…”

“Female Father, go quickly. I’ll be fine.”

Knowing that Su Jin was worried about leaving him behind and whether Kane would harm him when he couldn’t control himself, Su Jin suppressed his panic and chose to trust Lin Su. “I’ll be right back.”

After Su Jin left, Lin Su extended his hand, and a faint green light emanated from his palm, carrying a refreshing power. In an instant, the spacious room seemed to be filled with vitality.

Under the influence of this power, Kane, who had been tormented by the spiritual domain, gradually calmed down. Noticing Kane’s improvement, Lin Su blinked and focused on the back of Kane’s neck, where something was rapidly absorbing his wood-based abilities.

Lin Su reached out and opened Kane’s collar, revealing a chaotic and disordered black pattern on his previously clean neck. The continuity of the pattern and the peculiar sensation he felt confirmed that the black pattern on Kane’s neck was only one-third of the complete design.

Su Jin came in with a pot of cherry tomatoes and handed them to Lin Su. “These are your father’s beast marks. They appear every time he falls ill.”

Lin Su took them in his hand and purified them before feeding them to Kane.

By now, Kane had recovered from the previous disorder. His face was pale, and sweat trickled down his forehead. He struggled to sit up and took the cherry tomatoes from Lin Su himself, eating them slowly, one by one.

Seeing his improvement, Su Jin breathed a sigh of relief and turned around, discreetly wiping away a tear from the corner of his eye.

Looking at Kane, who was bowing his head and eating the cherry tomatoes, Lin Su asked, “Why doesn’t male father repair his beast marks?”

Just now, he noticed that Kane’s beast marks reacted to his abilities, and the quick recovery was also related to the absorption of his powers.

Beast marks served as a connection medium between Beastmen and their contract beasts.

When Imperial Beastmen formed a contract with their contract beasts, they would use a potion called the Spiritual Domain Enhancer to assist the bonding process and increase the success rate of the contract.

It was now evident that this potion was used to compensate for the flaws in the beast marks.

Kane, who had regained some strength, was momentarily puzzled and looked up at Lin Su. “Why should I repair my beast marks?”

Kane’s voice carried a sense of weakness and confusion, as he had never been told before that his beast marks needed repair.

Lin Su realized that perhaps the Imperial Beastmen had never considered whether their beast marks were complete.

His wood-based abilities not only had purifying capabilities but also healing and restoration abilities.

So Lin Su had bold speculation that maybe he could repair Kane’s beast marks and cure his mental disorder.

“Thank you, child. Did I startle you just now?” After consuming a pot of purified cherry tomatoes, Kane seemed to have regained some strength. He looked at Lin Su with guilt in his eyes. If his condition had been better, their lives wouldn’t have deteriorated to this extent.

So whenever Lin Su used to get angry and break things, Kane would feel nothing but heartache. If only he had been in slightly better health, he could have protected both father and son.

It was better than now, where he was causing them to worry and trouble.

“Should we administer the soothing agent injection? Maybe it will help.” Su Jin couldn’t help but speak up. He really didn’t want to go through something like today again.

Seeing Su Jin’s reddened eyes, even if Su Jin knew that administering this injection wouldn’t provide a complete cure, and they might need a second or third dose in the future, he still wanted to do everything he could to be a supportive male partner and father for at least a month or two, if not more.

“Go get it, I’ll administer it!” Su Jin instinctively looked at Lin Su. He didn’t know when Lin Su had become the backbone of their family.

Kane also turned his gaze towards Lin Su, waiting for him to speak along with Su Jin.

Lin Su sighed. He was well aware that based on Kane and Su Jin’s financial situation, they could afford at most one dose of the soothing agent. That’s why he had been hesitating until now, reluctant to administer it until it was absolutely necessary. After all, once this injection was given, they would be unable to buy a second or third one.

“Male Father and Female Father, if I tell you that I might be able to repair the incomplete beast marks and even have a certain chance of completely curing the mental disorder, would you be willing to give it a try? However, at the moment, I can’t determine the exact probability of success or failure. I will only know after seeing your beast marks, Male Father.”

“Are you saying that my beast marks are incomplete? I have never heard anyone mention it before.”

“I think no one has paid attention to such matters. After all, everyone’s beast marks look similar.”

Kane and Su Jin exchanged a glance and realized it was true. When something was almost the same, who would think about whether it was incomplete?

“If there’s a chance for a cure, I’m willing to try. What if it works?” Kane’s eyes lit up, ready to give it a go. Su Jin, on the other hand, was more cautious. “If it fails, could there be any danger to your male father’s life?”

“There shouldn’t be any danger to his life. At worst, it will maintain the current situation. Besides, don’t we still have one dose of the soothing agent? If any issues arise, we can administer it to Male Father.”

“Alright then, let’s give it a try. What if it works?” Su Jin breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that. “When do we start, and is there anything we need to prepare?”

“There’s no need for any specific preparations, but Male Father, you should take care of your health during this period so that you can withstand it.”

As Lin Su said this, he thought about setting aside some time tomorrow to get some meat. Most of the Imperial citizens relied on nutritional supplements for sustenance, and it was relatively easy to obtain vegetables and fruits. However, there were no stores that directly sold eggs or meat, and even if they bought some, they wouldn’t be able to eat it directly.

No one bothered to engage in animal husbandry either.

Just relying on vegetables and fruits wouldn’t be enough to restore Kane’s health.

Lin Su didn’t voice these concerns to avoid upsetting Su Jin; he had already figured out a solution.

After soothing both of them, Lin Su got up and returned to his room.

He had expended too much of his wood-based abilities just now, and at his current level, it was taking a toll on him.

Not long after he came back, he fell asleep as soon as he lay down on the bed.

Listening to the steady breathing by the bedside, William, who was under the bed, opened his eyes. There was not a hint of sleepiness in his golden beast pupils.

Shortly after Lin Su went out, he sensed a refreshing and natural power, albeit faint, but undeniably surging towards him.

It was a much stronger force than the soothing power he had felt from the cherry tomatoes earlier. Though faint, this power vigorously repaired a small crack in his spiritual domain.

With a serious demeanor, William secretly raised the tip of his tail and wagged it playfully, “bulingbulingbuling”
