Chapter 497 - Reputation Is Important

Yao Tang raised her eyebrows and crossed her legs. “What do you plan to do?”

Principal Kong straightened his back and sighed, before gazing out the window. He adjusted his glasses as he did so, shaking his head.

“I haven’t thought of a way around it yet. If I had, I wouldn’t have asked you to come here.” There was a moment’s pause before he stated, “Does Class 20 really need any more students?”

“Do you really care so much about your school’s reputation?” she countered with another question.

His jaw dropped. “Of course,” he snapped. “Reputation is everything! It’s the reason why No. 1 High School is the way it is today. If you lose that, then you wouldn’t be able to bring that back in the future. Not only will you have trouble in garnering investors, but you’ll even have a hard time expanding. How can not that be important?”

He sighed.

Yao Tang pressed her chin against the back of her hand. A little bird flew past their window, and she tilted her head. “Even if we won’t tell them the truth, they’ll still find out sooner or later.”

Seeing her indifferent behavior, his head started to pound.

“Don’t you think I know that?” he snapped. “I asked you to come here to think of a solution, not to tell me what I already know.”

“Then, why not just ask him to go back? He only knows me by name and nothing else. If we stop him from transferring, he wouldn’t know anything further.”

Principal Kong hesitated for a moment. “I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he said. “If Elder Guan hears about this, I wouldn’t hear the end of it.”

“The student came all the way from City F. Do you really think he’d knock on the doors of that high school and ask for any updates?”

His eyes lit up.

That’s right. He wouldn’t know anything about this!

Principal Kong had been quite reluctant to part with this transfer student. After all, his scores in his subjects were extremely good. If he ever were to become a part of their school, he’d be a generous help in raising their average.

Moreover, he remembered the Principal of that City F high school always bragging all about that student. If he could pirate him over to their side, it would definitely be a sore spot for them.

Wouldn’t it be best to grab the opportunity? But then, could he grab better opportunities without that student?

Yao Tang crossed her arms over her chest as if she had seen through his thoughts. “Our school has so much potential. Don’t you think it’s enough to stand on its own?”

Hearing this, his face flashed with surprise. “I have heard that your class has been working hard recently,” he slowly said. “Will I be expecting another great exam?”

“Of course.” She nodded. “You don’t have to worry about the students from other schools anymore.”

As soon as he heard this, he immediately relaxed and leaned back in his seat. He drummed his fingers onto the table.

If he kept this student, that student would continuously compare his experiences to what he had seen back in his former high school.

It would be better not to accept him.

However, if he didn’t accept him, he would lose a good asset to the school. But Yao Tang had already trained the other students to score better in the next exam.

He’d still make a huge profit.

Just the thought of this made him feel more at ease. The creases on his forehead disappeared almost immediately, and he raised his hand. “It’s settled then.”

He quickly called his secretary, Xiao Liu, and informed him of the new arrangements.

After all of this was done, he grinned. “Yao Tang, with you around, I’ll even risk getting scolded by Elder Guan,” he announced readily, patting his chest.

Just as he finished speaking, a familiar voice sounded from outside his office.

“Ey! Principal Kong, are you around?”

Hearing this, he could feel all the hairs on his body stand up. Cold sweat trickled down his forehead, and he could feel himself struggling to breathe.

Damn it!

What was he going to do now? There was no escape.

Principal Kong looked to the side and prepared to arrange a hiding place for Yao Tang. However, when he glanced in the other direction, the student was already nowhere to be found.

Behind him, the window was wide open. The cool breeze blew through the room, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

It seemed that she had already escaped.
