Shang Yinghan passed her the bag he was holding. “You forgot your bag.”

It was her bag!

Wen Qing was flattered because he was so considerate. She took the bag with both hands. She did not notice that Shang Yinghan had placed the bag she had taken from the hotel front desk with her bag.

“Goodbye, sir,” she said good-naturedly.

Shang Yinghan nodded.

In order to make it seem like she was not in a hurry to leave, Wen Qing only quickened her pace. She did not run. After walking a few steps, she turned around. She only breathed a sigh of relief when Shang Yinghan’s car was no longer in sight.

Heting was a wealthy district. At a glance, it was filled with single villas. Many aristocratic families in the capital lived here because living here conveyed their high status.

Wen Qing was not the only daughter of the Wen family. She had three older brothers.

Her eldest brother, Wen Hongchuan, was working as an impoverished professor overseas and wasting his life away. Apparently, he was going to come back and continue working below his pay grade.

Her second brother, Wen Yebai, was a doctor. She heard that he was obsessed with traditional Chinese medicine. He learned from Shennong, the Chinese god of medicine, and tasted hundreds of herbs. Some were poisonous and he got sent to the ICU several times. It was a miracle that he was still alive.

Her third brother, Wen Xingzhi, was a poor artist. He always reeked of paint and clay.

They were all doing very average.

Wen Qing was the same.

This was all attributed to the empire that her father had built when he was young.

The Wen family only looked glamorous on the surface, but they were not as glorious as they used to be.

She was not cut out for business, and she could not count on her three brothers. Her father was the only one supporting the Wen family’s business. If not for the business’s solid foundation, they would have been kicked out of the capital’s inner circle.

The Shang family, on the other hand, was famous in Yanjing.

The Wen family used to be neighbors with the Shang family. They had only moved to Heting villa later on. Wen Qing had grown up with Shang He. Shang Ke had gone to Country H to further his studies when he was 15 years old and returned to the entertainment industry at the age of 20. With Shang family behind him, he had a good career and was now a star.

Her engagement with Shang Ke was arranged the year Shang Ke returned home. Shang Ke had no objections. Wen Qing had liked him since she was a child, so she was happy about the engagement.

In the time that followed, Shang Ke distanced himself from her and used work as an excuse. Although good things come to those who wait, Wen Qing felt that she had already waited too long. She wanted to take their relationship to the next level.

Hence, her best friend, Shang Li, made a suggestion. That was how she ended up sleeping with the wrong person last night.

If she had really just slept with the wrong person, then it would be easy.

However, that person was Shang Yinghan. That made things difficult for her.

“You’re back.”

The voice startled Wen Qing.

Wen Qing looked up and saw Lan Qulin sitting on the sofa. She was shocked. “Mom, didn’t you say you were watching the show in Milan yesterday? Why are you back so soon?”

Lan Qulin looked up at her daughter. “Where did you go last night?”

“Mom, why are you suddenly asking this?” Wen Qing was already starting to get nervous.

Lan Qulin squinted at her. Her thin eyeliner made her look young and strong, but her personality was a different story. She was very domineering. However, most of the time, Lan Qulin was only domineering towards her husband, Wen Qing’s father.

Lan Qulin said, “Do you want to get a good beating?”

Wen Qing was speechless.

Lan Qulin stood up and walked to Wen Qing. “Tell me. Where did you go last night?”

Wen Qing panicked.

Lan Qulin could see right through her daughter. She noticed that Wen Qing was avoiding her gaze. She made a guess. “Did you do something bad?”

“No,” Wen Qing replied.

“You did something bad,” Lan Qulin said.

Wen Qing was speechless. She should have pretended to be mute.

Lan Qulin took two steps back and crossed her arms. She did not want to pressure her daughter too much. “Tell me the truth. As long as you didn’t murder anyone, I can help you.”
