I’m Thinking of Buying Land (2)

It can’t be helped. It’s reasonable to take care of the people who are building up the city.

I have no problem with it though.

「I want to buy as much land as secluded as possible. Price is not a problem so let me say my conditions. First, it must be flat. Second, there must be a river running through the property, or a spring, or ……any kind of water source. And third, I would like to have a reasonably vast wasteland.」

Flatland, water, secluded.

The first two conditions are necessary for my goal which is to study plants and magic which I love. The third condition was necessary for my freedom.

I want to live a leisure and free life without being noticed or talked about.

I’m neither a brave nor a saint nor an upcoming grand mage.

I’ve had enough of those things so please leave me alone.

「Well, you know, I think this fits your conditions.」

The middle-aged man receptionist took out a sheet of paper from the inventory of land.

I looked at the conditions written on the paper and readily agreed.

「I’ll take this place.」

「Eh, you decide just like that?」

「Yes.」

「It’s a remote countryside….even though it’s a quiet place, it’s not that cheap, look at this.」

The receptionist pointed out the price. The price is low for a land managed by the guild but it’s not something a young man like me can afford.

「Are you sure you’re not mistaken?」

The receptionist middle-aged man glanced at the wallet I brought with me.

「What do you mean?」

「It says “a thousand pieces”. Not silver, not gold, but big gold coins. Normally, we don’t use big gold coins but it’s a unique notation for land transactions. You must have mistaken it for a silver coin. 」

A thousand big gold coins.

In other words, 100 million yen.

That’s a reasonable price given how vast the land is.

The wasteland and unexploited land are a bit expensive but I came to understand that it is the basic rule of Gartland. People who don’t belong to a guild pay more.

In fact, it would be a blessing if they would just sell it to me.

In any case, I have no intention of joining any guild.

I’m already done dealing with workmates.
