Chapter 120

Chapter 120: Musing over spilt milk

Chapter – 120

As they watched Alex march away, Daniel could not help but sigh. It was such a good opportunity for both Alex and Theation. Alex was getting much more than he would get anywhere, and the company was getting an enthusiastic and hardworking member under their wing. But everything blew out of proportion before he could even comprehend what the crux of the problem was?

Daniel had his regret, but Karen felt cheated. She felt cheated by both Alex and Jessica. With an abundance of unanswered questions in her mind, she turned back to look at Jessica, hoping to have a clear understanding of things that transpired in such a short time.

Jessica, on the other hand, continued to stare at the door angrily even after Alex was nowhere in sight. Alex had crossed all the lines, and Jessica desperately needed someone to blame when she found Daniel and Karen looking at her, “He was the guy you wanted me to hire? Both of you put forward his name, didn’t you? Look what kind of scum was he? Huh?”

None of them replied. Karen picked up the contract in front of her and silently started going through it. While Daniel was trying to choose his words wisely.

“Jessica...” After a moment of silence, Daniel opened his mouth, “As a friend, as well as someone who works under you, I would say, you were in the wrong this time.” Daniel did not clearly know what the matter was. But, from what he could make of it, he felt that Jessica, after having someone snoop around Alex, intentionally made things difficult for him.

“My fault? How is any of this my fault?” Jessica was left stunned after hearing Daniel, “Did you not see how he behaved with me?”

.....

Daniel nodded, “I did, and to be honest, I was surprised. For the short amount of time that I have known him, he gave me the impression of someone honest and humble. Alex is someone, who believes in returning the kindness a hundred times over, so I guess it’s not just the respect that he returns a hundred folds,” Daniel seriously made Jessica understand, “Because one thing that I am sure about is that whatever reason he may have had for working here, he was very much enthusiastic and dedicated towards his work.”

“We understand that you have your reservations. You want to do everything on your own. You are working tirelessly, making sure that everything that happens in this company passes through your sight at least once,” Karen, when done reading the contract, took over after Daniel paused. She now knew what Alex meant by three years.

“... You have known us for years. But you neither believe in our judgement nor have we won your trust in all these years. After discussing the contract with me, you added this silly three-year clause. I mean, have you ever seen someone sign such a thing?” Karen scoffed. She could not believe Jessica would do such a thing.

Jessica looked at the two close friends of her in annoyance. As doom approaches, the person’s intellect works against her best interest. This proverb suited Jessica perfectly right now. Instead of understanding their point and their reservations, she found them annoying, trying to take the side of her newly found arch-nemesis.

“What’s done is done. I don’t believe a nobody like him can have much of an impact on my company,” Jessica waved her hand, trying to brush the matter away.

“...Let’s not talk about that guy anymore.” Jessica dismissed the chances of any future conversation with Alex.

Now that Jessica brought the conversation to an end, Daniel had regret all over his face, while Karen’s face showed obvious resentment towards Jessica.

In the PR department,

As soon as he came back, Alex slumped onto his chair. Since everyone was busy with their work, none of them paid attention to him, except for Amber.

‘Ahh... What a fool I am... Bimbo? Seriously? The best you could come up with?’ Alex sighed as he stretched his legs, ‘I need to work on that vocabulary of mine. Man, I would have looked stupid.’

‘I should have gone with mommy milkers? Nah... Maybe cow tits and chicken brain...’ Alex muttered to himself.

Even though Alex’s purpose of leaving Theation had no setback, he felt a bit down knowing that he would have to leave his beloved boss behind.

“What’s the matter with you? Why are you grumbling nonstop?” Amber finally asked when she could not concentrate on her work because of Alex, “What happened in your meeting with Jessica? Isn’t she just the sweetest?”

Alex’s face twitched as he heard Amber call Jessica the sweetest. If that bitch was sweet, he might be the cause of diabetes to people around him.

“I resigned,” Alex whispered, shaking his head, trying not to think about Jessica.

“What?” Amber asked. She thought maybe she heard it wrong and wanted to clarify.

“I resigned,” this time, Alex was louder than before.

“WHAT!” Amber stood up from her chair and cried out, drawing the attention of others towards herself. Alex, on the other hand, face palmed himself.

‘This, what was going to be a real hassle now,’ Alex thought.

“What happened? Why did you scream?” Hazel was the first one to reach Alex and Amber.

“Don’t tell me the newbie tried to be funky with you,” Ellaine was next to ask. After the constant backlash she received, Ellaine had finally decided to let go of the matter with Alex. But she could not help but get cheeky with him.

I wouldn’t mind if he did something funny with me,” someone from the ladies said.

“Aren’t you a little too pent up?” Hazel asked, giggling towards her colleague.

“Not just her. Even our newbie looks pent up beneath his pant,” Ellaine would not let the chance to comment on Alex pass by.

“You only need to ask, why torture yourself? Hehehehe...” Hazel said as she gently traced her finger along his face.

“No, I did nothing like that...” Alex tried to explain himself, but like always, no one wanted to listen to him.

Annoyed, and uninterested in expending his energy on explaining himself to the ladies, he looked towards Amber hoping that she would dispel the misgivings against him. But Amber was the same as Alex, dumbfounded to see the way ladies reacted.

“Aaaaahhh...” As the ladies continued among themselves, Amber finally had enough. She yelled to bring their commentary to a halt.

Startled by the scream, soon silence prevailed everywhere. Amber looked at everyone, confirming that everyone was paying attention to her.

“Now that she is no longer an intern, the cute little kitten is showing her fangs,” Hazel whispered, “Huh... All the love was for nothing,” she sighed.

“We were just trying to stand up for you,” Ellaine continued.

“He did nothing to me,” Taking a deep breath, Amber finally said.

“Huh...?” Confused, everyone looked at Amber, then towards Alex before finally resting their gaze at Ellaine.

“What are you looking at?” Ellaine asked, shirking behind Hazel, “I already knew that the newbie does not have the guts to do it,” Ellaine took a complete U-turn from her previous stance.

“What a waste of an opportunity. I could have blackmailed him into doing things,” Hazel expressed her regret openly.

“Alex is leaving,” Amber ignored everyone and softly let it out, looking at them.
