“This spot should be good,” Veronica said as she swirled around in excitement. They were a couple of miles away from the shore, surrounded by reefs and corals. Watching his sister jump off without any fear, Abir also followed and took the leap of faith. Soon, Jessica was the only one standing at the edge of the yacht, reluctant to take the step forward.

Veronica did not freeze like Abir. Anxious, veronica threw her arms as hard as she humanly could, trying to reach Jessica, but she was still far away. But as if to answer her prayers, someone had already reached Jessica before Veronica could. It was Alex.

As they left the shore, Alex asked the man with him to closely follow behind Veronica and the others. Maybe it was the allure, or he had foreseen something like this would happen, only Alex knew. When Alex saw Jessica fall and struggle to keep herself afloat, without giving it a second thought, he dived into the water to save her.

Alex had already seen what happened before Jessica fell. So when he got hold of her, instead of bringing her back to her yacht, Alex, while keeping her head above water, swam back to the yacht he was on.

“I think her lungs are filled with water. We need to make her spill that out first,” one of the two men on the yacht with Alex said, looking at the unconscious Jessica. Alex knew nothing much could be found out from this man, “Do you have his details? I don’t think it is a simple matter.” Alex knew he had to handle things on his own. He was unwillingly getting into a mess, and he knew it might not end up well, but what could be done?

The man agreed, “I will give it to you when we reach the shore.”

As the two of them were discussing the details, Alex and the man saw Jessica coming in their direction, and the man excused himself.

“How are you...?” Alex asked, but he couldn’t even finish when he felt his cheeks burning.
