Chapter 07 Allergy

Zhuang Jingchun’s confused eyes narrowed slightly. Before he had time to ask more, Jiang Xia had already returned to the private room. Her complexion didn’t look good.

“Can I call you Xiaozhou? How old are you this year?” A smile appeared on her face as she turned to Xu Xizhou.

“Twenty-one.” Xu Xizhou lied without batting an eye.

“Still so young. What do you do now?”

At this moment, Xu Xizhou was very fortunate that Mrs. Zhuang did not pay attention to the gossip of the wealthy families in Wancheng, otherwise, his identity as a fake young master would have been exposed a long time ago.

“I’m an amateur race and I work in a go-kart club teaching children to drive, something like that.”

“So it’s like that.” Jiang Xia showed a thoughtful expression, and a faint smile appeared on her beautiful face, “No wonder Jingchun likes you, he used to—”

Zhuang Jingchun suddenly coughed softly and handed a plate of strawberry soufflé[1]

“Mom, try the dessert that just came.”

Xu Xizhou was a little curious, what exactly was Mrs. Zhuang’s interrupted sentence? Why did Zhuang Jingchun look unwilling to mention it? Could it be that Zhuang Jingchun’s ex-boyfriend was also a racer?

If it was really like that, then everything made sense. The reason why Zhuang Jingchun asked him to have a fake marriage was that he had an unforgettable white moonlight in his heart, and because he somewhat resembled the white moonlight and both of them were racers, Zhuang Jingchun that couldn’t get white moonlight then turned to him for comfort .…

So … The script he took was actually the script of the melodramatic white moonlight stand-in?

As soon as Zhuang Jingchun turned his head, he found that Xu Xizhou was staring blankly at the brownie on the plate, his thoughts unknown.

He lightly kicked Xu Xizhou under the tablecloth and reminded him in a low voice, “Eat the dessert, don’t leave anything.”

Xu Xizhou returned to his senses and took a bite of the brownie, he said in disgust, “It’s too sweet. I just ate a lot, I really can’t eat this.”

He suddenly thought of something, winked at Zhuang Jingchun, and pushed the plate of dessert to him.

“Darling, eat this for me.”

The blue veins on Zhuang Jingchun’s forehead twitched, and just as he was about to warn him in a low voice, he saw Jiang Xia, who was on the opposite side, looking at the two of them. He weighed it in his heart, and reluctantly picked up his spoon and took a bite.

Not long after that, his face changed drastically.

“What’s in it?”

“Raisins and walnuts, maybe some peanuts?” Xu Xizhou was not sure, he only took a bite not long ago.

He looked at Zhuang Jingchun in puzzlement. In just ten seconds, Zhuang Jingchun’s breathing began to be a little short, and his pale white face was rapidly turning red as if he had an asthma attack.

“I’m allergic … to peanuts …”

He clearly remembered that peanuts were not usually added to brownies, so he just took a tentative taste.

“Ah, I’ll call the manager and ask them to call an ambulance.” It was the first time Xu Xizhou had seen someone allergic to peanuts. He was taken aback and rushed out to call the manager.

This was not the first time Jiang Xia has dealt with this situation. She calmly called the hospital, explained Zhuang Jingchun’s symptoms in detail, and then walked over to hold Zhuang Jingchun’s hand.

“Don’t worry, the ambulance will be here soon.”

Zhuang Jingchun’s consciousness was a little blurry at this time, he kept coughing, his entire stomach and throat seemed to be on fire, and he continued to spasm. He looked at the staff gathered around from the corner of his eye, as well as Xu Xizhou, who was full of remorse and self-reproach, he could not help but hold Jiang Xia’s hand, and spoke in a weak voice, “Mom, don’t … don’t blame him … it’s my own carelessness.”

“You still care about others at a time like this. Don’t talk, save your strength.” Jiang Xia was helpless and exasperated with her son’s behavior.

The ambulance came soon after. A few waiters helped to carry Zhuang Jingchun onto the stretcher. Looking at Zhuang Jingchun lying in the ambulance breathing weakly, Xu Xizhou’s thick and slender eyelashes drooping helplessly, he felt as if something had squeezed his heart.

He followed them to the hospital. Outside the operating room, Jiang Xia was full of worry and she looked exhausted. Xu Xizhou was almost overwhelmed by self-condemnation, so he went to the corridor in silence.

Zhuang Jingchun’s allergic reaction seemed serious, but it was not fatal, and the doctor quickly brought his condition under control.

Seeing the patient trolley come out, Jiang Xia was overjoyed and she rushed to his side and touched Zhuang Jingchun’s face.

Zhuang Jingchun has now regained his consciousness, the green eyes covered with a layer of faint watery sheen opened slightly, he called her softly.

“Xiaozhou is also here, he’s been …” Jiang Xia turned her head and was about to call Xu Xizhou to come over as well, but found that the figure in the corner was gone.

Inside the dimly lit stairwell.

Xu Xizhou sat on the cold steps with his head buried in his knees.

He always felt that he could definitely change a lot of things with this second chance, but his life is still a mess. Even he had caused others to suffer so miserably.

His adoptive parents disliked him, his biological parents didn’t want him, and his best friend betrayed him. Maybe it’s because he was originally an unlucky star and didn’t deserve to be loved at all.

In the dark and isolated corridor, the overwhelming negative emotions swept through his body like a tidal wave.

“Xiaozhou.” The fireproof partition door was pushed open, a ray of light shone in, and a gentle voice sounded.

Hearing that voice, Xu Xizhou hurriedly wiped the corners of his eyes and stood up in a feigned calmness, “Auntie Jiang, I’m really sorry about today, it’s all my fault …”

“You and Jingchun are not actually dating, right?”

Xu Xizhou was stunned momentarily, not knowing how to answer Jiang Xia, but Jiang Xia smiled lightly.

“He’s allergic to peanuts, it’s impossible for his boyfriend not to know this.”

Their acts were blown, Xu Xizhou’s heart went cold, and Zhuang Jingchun would certainly want to tear up that contract when he woke up.

“Auntie Jiang, I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to lie to you ….”

“Don’t worry, I’m not here to blame you. Besides, I can understand that maybe I have pushed my son too hard, so he just thought of such a way. But …… you should be different in his heart.”

“Huh?” Xu Xizhou was a little confused.

“You may not know, the first thing he said to me when he fell ill just now was to tell me not to blame you.”

Hearing Jiang Xia’s words, Xu Xizhou’s entire body shook for a moment, showing his disbelief.

Zhuang Jingchun didn’t blame him at all, but he still speak for him?

“Jingchun’s symptoms are under control, he just has to take a good rest. I have something to do at the museum, so I’ll have to trouble you to take care of Jingchun later.”

Jiang Xia patted his shoulder, showed a meaningful smile, then turned around and left.

Xu Xizhou walked down the quiet corridor in a daze.

When he reached the intensive care ward, he paced back and forth for a long time before he gathered the courage and knocked on the ward door.

“Come in.”

He heard Zhuang Jingchun’s rare weak voice, and the guilt in his heart deepened a little bit, he walked in gingerly.

“What’s wrong with your eyes?”

Zhuang Jingchun frowned slightly when he looked at him.

“Irritated by the disinfectant.” Xu Xizhou did not want others to see his vulnerable side, so he pretended to be calm.

“Just now Mrs. Zhuang talked to me, she could see through my act, I’m sorry I screwed up.”

“So?” The man’s deep and calm eyes looked straight at him.

“That contract, I don’t think I’ll be able to accomplish it, how about … you find a more suitable person for your contract marriage.”

“Are you going to give up because of a small setback?”

Xu Xi Zhou lowered his eyes, “You don’t understand, my life is a mess now. I have fallen out with my adoptive parents, and a lot of people are waiting to see me make a joke out of myself ….”

“And then you’re going to give up racing, give up the dream you’ve worked so hard for over a decade? It seems that your love for racing is no more than that.”

The sarcasm in Zhuang Jingchun’s tone was like a needle piercing into Xu Xizhou’s mind, he looked at the man’s still morbid face, and the long-suppressed emotions in his heart exploded instantly.

“What do you mean by that? Have you seen my matches? Do you know how much I’ve paid to get into F2?”

Zhuang Jingchun was silent for a few seconds before slowly saying, “You got the National Karting Championship title when you were thirteen, and you first participated in F2 at the age of 16. This spring, in Melbourne, you started in the back row, madly overtaking your opponents all the way, and unexpectedly took third place, and in Spain, you were on the podium again with your excellent overtaking ability and perfect stopping strategy even with fuel leaks and worn tires.”

“Is everything I said correct?”

“How do you … know so much?” Xu Xizhou was stunned. He had always thought that the first time they met was six months ago in Melbourne, but now he realized that it seemed to be completely different.

“My dad likes racing, and when I was in Europe, I would occasionally accompany him to watch the races.”

The man seemed a little uncomfortable at the mention of the subject. He took off his glasses and pressed the bridge of his nose which was a little sore.

“Anyway, since you signed the agreement, you should continue to fulfill your obligations. In addition, I’m already in contact with the European Team, and there will be results in a couple of days.”

Xu Xizhou sat next to him, and only when he got close did he realize that the man had a very shallow scar at the right corner of his eye, it had been covered by the frame of his glasses before, so he didn’t notice it.

Seemingly aware that Xu Xizhou was looking at him, Zhuang Jingchun quickly put on his glasses, and his face regained its indifference, “I’m fine, you don’t need to stay here.”

“But I promised Auntie Zhuang that I would stay here to take care of you.”

“If you take care of me, I might recover more slowly.”

Xu Xizhou gritted his teeth, desperately trying to make himself ignore Zhuang Jingchun’s ridicule, and tried to pull out a smile, “Do you want some water? Or you can tell me if you feel uncomfortable somewhere.”

“It’s quite creepy for you to look at me so gently.” The corner of Zhuang Jingchun’s mouth curled up, and before Xu Xizhou get angry, he said softly, “Go buy a can of fruits for me, canned oranges.”

When he was young, every time he was hospitalized because of allergies, his grandmother and grandfather would buy canned food for him to eat. The two elderlies have long since passed away, but he had always remembered the taste of canned oranges in his heart.

“You’re this old, but still like to eat canned oranges. My students are not as childish as you are.” Xu Xizhou complained softly, but his body still stood up honestly.

He went around the nearby convenience stores and supermarkets, and only with great difficulty did he buy the brand specified by Zhuang Jingchun. He went back to the ward carrying the canned foods and was about to push the door in when something suddenly flashed in his head.

Something did not add up, Zhuang Jingchun knew him too well, even when he won the karting championship and when he participated in F2, an ordinary spectator who only watches races on weekends as a pastime would not know so much.

Xu Xizhou narrowed his eyes and walked into the ward in a very good mood.

He sat on the edge of the bed, thoughtfully handed the spoon to Zhuang Jingchun, pried open the lid of the can, and was about to send it over when he retracted his wrist.

Zhuang Jingchun’s eyes moved from the can to his face, slightly displeased.

“I have a question, even Racing Daily’s reporter doesn’t necessarily know when I won the karting championship in China, how do you know so much about it?”

He sat a little closer, his eyes bright and a little sly, looking into the man’s eyes, “It couldn’t be … that you’re actually a fan of mine, right?”
